This writing workbook will appeal to the target age range named in the title, but is also suitable for some older kids. The prompts are interesting and engaging, and the book shares insights about the creative process without overwhelming kids with too much information. The workbook shares ideas about developing characters and story ideas, writing a beginning, a middle, and an ending, and revising your work afterwards. The book is written in an easy-to-read, conversational style, and the prompts vary enough that everyone can find several that they connect with, even if they don't like all of them. There are open-ended prompts and fill-in-the-blank activities, and I would have loved this when I was the age for it.

This would be a great gift for an aspiring writer. Also, even though the workbook is primarily designed for kids to work through it independently, it can be helpful in a classroom setting or in a writing group. The book is simple and inviting enough that it can appeal to reluctant writers who wouldn't pursue something like this on their own, but are doing this for school. This would also be a great prize for a writing contest, or for a Summer Reading prize winner at the library.

I received a free copy from the publisher through Amazon Vine in exchange for an honest review.
