Jeb Corliss is one of the most iconic BASE jumpers and wingsuit pilots of our time, and his autobiography is an odyssey into madness. Corliss breaks and rebuilds himself time and again, learning what only pain and daring can teach. The tales he brings back offer insight into the darkness that exists within the mind as well as his own unique way of coping. Many grapple with mental illness in one way or another, and Corliss gives a glaringly honest view of his struggle while traversing the world’s most dangerous sports.
One of the best books I've read. Having a fascination with BASE jump and proximty flying, I couldn't resist checking this book. It ended up being a wonderful take on a complicated life full of the craziest adventures a human has lived. Jeb has gone through some hard things and writes about it on a direct and simple way, making it a true page turner. I highly recommend googling the jumps and the places he mentions to just take a better grasp of what he's talking about. Thank you, Jeb. Hope you are still around us for a long time.
This book is WAY MORE than just a memoir and some thrilling stories !! Jeb has documented and explained some incredibly deep insights into thoughts and feelings he went through during various experiences. The way he explained them made me almost feel like I was there and made me wonder what I would have thought and felt if I was where he was at the time. I have been curious about wingsuit flying for a while, I have not had any desire to BASE jump !! Thank you, Jeb, for an amazing book and life story !!
On YouTube, I have enthusiastically followed the exploits of Jeb Corliss. I wasn't in a rush to buy his book because I have plenty of excellent books to read and Jeb doing amazing feats doesn't necessarily equate to him being an amazing author. However, I discovered his book to be riveting, well written, nicely laid out, hard to put down and I was emotionally moved with the ending. I gave it the maximum 5 stars!
Really fun read. I didn’t have intentions of reading this book- but a friend had it delivered to our house and I ‘borrowed it’ before they got home. Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. Of course- I’ve followed Corliss through his YouTube channel as much as the next (into extreme sports) guy. I expected a lot of ego, and there was quite a bit, but the self reflection interested me a lot. I did not know many of the stories told- and found myself frequently googling events and timelines.
I enjoy hearing stories about how extreme sports saves lives- they did mine.
Truly inspirational, moving, entertaining and well written. Jeb is right when he says that his publisher said it read like a fantasy, but there is footage to back it up. If you want a quick summary of the book, watch Jeb's podcast with Andy Stumpf (cleared hot) on YouTube. One of the best books I've ever read, ever. Thank you, Jeb. I'm so grateful that you stayed to tell your story. Good luck!
