As a teacher, I see the detrimental effects of tech addiction every day. Parents who neglect to create boundaries around digital technology use are setting their children up for disaster.

This short book is packed with wisdom and relevant, action-based advice for proactively guarding your children’s time, attention, and hearts. I am giving five stars for content.

There are a few idiosyncrasies in the author’s writing that annoyed me, but that is down to personal preference. I do think that there is one mistake, as he incorrectly uses the word “invertedly” instead of “inadvertently” at one point. Still, the book is generally enjoyable, wholesome, and contains a wealth of sound advice. I hope that the blatant word choice error will be corrected in future editions.

Helpful to think about how to introduce technology to children. No ground breaking ideas if you’ve read similar books on habits (eg atomic habits) or living tech-free. Easy to read and a great place to start for those who are new to the idea.

Raising Tech-healthy humans was a well deserving shortlisted book in 2023’s Australian Christian Book of the Year.
This book is a fabulous and practical resource to help families pre-empt the screen/tech balance before things get out of hand. I really loved the relational focus of this book as it turned our attention to seeking the strengths and positives we’d like to develop in our children and families (and, let’s be honest, ourselves too). With practical suggestions and realistic tips, Sih equips families with realistic steps to grow tech-healthy humans. I found many points along the way that I wanted to put into practice with my own family.
I love this quote from the book’s conclusion: ‘Almost anyone can disconnect from a screen for long enough to muck around with their kids in the rub of real life. Raising tech-healthy humans is as simple and as difficult as that.’
A great book, well recommended. My thanks to Sparklit for the review copy of this book and congratulations Daniel Sih on a fantastic resource!

This is a very down-to-earth, practical (and short) book to help us parents in the digital age. It is not the book to dig into the science and neurology of tech usage, but rather, the good advice of one parent to another - with humility and authenticity. I have felt greatly affirmed in some of the hard parenting decisions we have made and also took away some tips to help us for the next stages.

One of my big insights that came indirectly from this book is to be proactive to encourage young parents to intentionally discuss with other parents their technology decisions and to create/find a village of like-minded parents who are willing to delay what they give their kids and when. It is such a place of peer pressure for our young people, but having peers who are living with the same boundaries sure helps this parenting gig. I really appreciated Daniel's section on the myths we should not buy into. Well-worth the brief read.

Not just for new parents or parents of young children

My twins are 18 and live 3,000 miles away from me and yet I found so much value in Daniel Sih’s newest work, Raising Tech-Healthy Humans. Sure, there are things I would do differently, if I had to do it over again, but having just finished this book (on the heels of Spacemakers – which is also a must read) I feel empowered to create a positive change in my life and the lives of my daughters. From a position of love and compassion, Daniel presents a clear and practical path forward (backed by research) for all parents. Never condensing, critical or anti-tech, this is a perfect book for parents expecting their first child and it will be my standard “baby shower” gift from this point forward. Daniel, thank you for giving us not just hope for the future, but tools that allow us to be the change we wish to see in the world.

A very worthwhile read for parents and carers of children and teens in my opinion. I loved the bit at the start where the author gives an overview of the book to help you decide if the book will be a good use of your time! I found it helpful as it looks at the end goal - raising kids who become adults who can self regulate healthy tech boundaries. It wasn't a book of 'do this' or 'do that', but instead had a helpful amount of flexible suggestions, thoughts, and reflection questions to help navigate tricky territory.

I think this would make a good book club book, as it would make for interesting and productive discussion, with benefit to the family.

So as a teacher and parent in the ever changing world of technology, social media, gaming etc....this was so good to read that my apprehension is real, but there are solutions!

Lean Back (TV, Streaming TV Shows, Going to a Movie, Video Chat) Media v Lean Forward (Gaming, Web Surfing, Social Media, Texting & IM) Media, which hit our Dopamine Circuits!

We are here to raise "adults" (parenting is an attempt to transform your healthy child to a health adult).

Our children's memories will be of the things (activities and adventures) we did with them when they are older!

This is a super quick read at just 114 pages. A great book with really helpful insights into the impact tech has on our kids developing brains. Aimed at parents of kids aged 5-12, I would highly recommend every parent to have a read if you have kiddos coming up to our even beyond this age. Sih is very down-to-earth and practical with some really great ideas to how to balance life with technology & family.

A really helpful book packed with plenty of great ideas to foster a healthy relationship with technology as a family.

I think the most helpful thing the author ultimately puts forward, is that to parent well we need to start with ourselves. I felt challenged in my own relationship with digital-tech and needed to re-evaluate some of my own practices.

What a challenge. Easy to ready, but not as easy to implement… and I’m not a parent! Though it is written from a Christian perspective, this is not only for Christians. There is something in this for everyone, whether you are a parent or not. We have to do something about reclaiming the time and relationships tech can take from us (I say as I write this on my phone…)

I like the approach of making space for other things, rather than simply cutting back, or creating restrictions. Book would be good for parents just thinking through kids and technology for the first time. Nothing I disagree with, but not particularly new for me.
