Over the river and through the woods, to a vampire’s lair we go.…
Paul and Taviano approach their first Thanksgiving, happy together but wary. The demon that shares Taviano’s body won’t even consider turning Paul. Rude! They’re planning a Friendsgiving but, wouldn’t you know it, Paul gets kidnapped first by an unknown vampire.
As Taviano frantically searches for his beloved human with the help of some unexpected allies, Paul is taunted by a creepy-ass vampire in a terrible track suit who hints he’s important to her mysterious plan. Oh, and the vamp who kidnapped him? Spoiler alert: it’s Bronislav, the Russian guy who turned Taviano over 170 years ago. What the hell is going on, and what is “the alchemist’s riddle” his captors keep nattering about? The answer to those questions could change everything Paul and Taviano thought they knew about their love and their future together.
Fated mates, a huge age gap (like, 150 years), ancient myths, a found family, a bit of gore -- that's what a holiday should be, right?
Fangsgiving is the second novella in the gay romance trilogy HOLIDAYS SUCK! that began with Vampire Claus. This book can stand alone but is better as part of the ongoing story of Taviano and Paul. It features a heartwarming, happy-for-now ending for a vampire, a young man with a surprising family tree, and the weirdest gathering for a Friendsgiving the world has ever seen.
Robert Winter is a recovering lawyer who likes writing about hot men in love much more than drafting a legal brief. Once upon a time, he went to Georgetown University law school. Upon graduation, he moved to New York to work in a large law firm, but later returned to Washington, DC. The legal work was entertaining and Robert spent a lot of time in bankruptcy court, usually representing either groups of creditor or the debtors themselves. But legal work didn’t satisfy the urge Robert felt to tell stories.
When he turned 50, Robert left behind the (allegedly) glamorous world of international law firms and bankruptcy court to pursue his real passion. Now he spends time with his husband in Montreal, QC.
When Robert isn’t writing, he loves to cook Indian food. The aromas of the spice blends excite and challenge him. Although he’s never been to India, the food seems comforting and home-like. Add a trip to the Golden Triangle to the bucket list!
First, I've just got to say how thrilled I am that Rober Winter is back! It doesn't matter if he's writing paranormal or contemporary, this marvelous author completely slayed me with September, and I've been a loyal fan ever since.
Robert Winter has created a fascinating vampire world in the Holidays Suck! series. For folks who read Vampire Claus, you'll be able to jump right into Fansgiving. But the rest of you will need to read these books in order. Plus, a third book looks to be coming soon, and I can not wait to learn the conclusion of Paul and Taviano'a story.
I highly recommend delving into any one of Robert Winter's marvelous novels. His writing style is lively, with layers of humor, emotion, and toe curling romance. These books are just so much fun to read!
an ARC of Fangsgiving was provided to me for the purpose of my honest review, all opinions are my own
Robert Winter's Vampire Claus is one of my favourite festive reads so I was delighted to hear he was returning to the series with a follow-up.
Fangsgiving has all the same elements which made the first one such a success for me, a complex vampire, a cute as a button human and a romance for the ages.
Here we discover Paul and Taviano are still as solid as they were at the end of the previous book but Taviano's demon is still refusing to turn Paul and make him into a vampire. As the book progresses, strange things start occurring, leading to a confrontation with Taviano's maker.
As Paul and his immediate family get embroiled in a centuries old vampire's quest to rule over all, things get serious and decisions are made which will have major repercussions going forward.
I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment, even if it has a bit of an open ending as book three is on the way. Paul and Taviano are still madly in love and I enjoy the spark which crackles between them. We also got to meet two new vampires who look like they will be allies going forward and Malik was a super sweetie.
There's the same level of dramatic action going on here as with the first one and the Boston setting is as strong as ever.
I'm eagerly waiting for book three now because I'm desperate to know what Paul's new discovery means for him and Taviano, and the rest of the vampires, going forward.
#ARC kindly received from the author via GRR Tours in return for an honest and unbiased review
Loved this installment. I'm glad we get more of Paul and Taviano. It wasn't quite as sweet or soft as the first one...there's more plot, really, and some gruesomeness...but they are still sweet together, and I love their made family. I'm looking forward to getting more of them.
Holidays Suck, unless you have a vampire boyfriend to shower you with love and bring lots of adrenaline into your life!
I have to admit that the name of the book drew me in and I decided to pick it up for an ARC review, but when I started reading it something was missing. So I rushed to get the first book and start the story from the beginning! And gods, I was definitely not wrong.
Ever since Vampire Claus (love that title too! I think the author has a real talent for coming up with original titles!) Paul and Taviano caught my attention.
And Fangsgiving totally won me over. I'm glad we got the continuation of their story because these two certainly have more to show us.
I am happy that in the second book I continue to feel their strong connection and the spark that ignited between them since their first meeting. Paul may know what world he lives in now, but I can still see his innocence and kindness. The desire to help those in need and to engage in a battle that he was unlikely to win.
I liked that their story didn't go smoothly. There were new characters (which I really liked), passionate scenes, drama, funny moments, feelings, friendship, unexpected twists and of course - a new revelation that may or may not change everything.
To be honest, I'm a little disappointed that the book ended so quickly. But on top of that, I'm looking forward to the THIRD book!
I really enjoyed Vampire Claus when it came out. I was so happy to see that a sequel was written!!! I re-read Vampire Claus to get reacquainted since it was so long ago that I read it, and I loved it the second time around. Fangsgiving was an awesome follow up! This had a great story line with the potential for a great overall arc. I loved the new characters, I loved seeing Paul and Taviano still happily together 10 months later, and I loved the drama. So clever and well written. I'm thrilled to see that there will be another book after this, and I am very much looking forward to it.
This is a book that is a continuation from book one and things are explained in that book that aren’t in this one so it is my recommendation that you read the first in the Holidays suck series before reading this one. Paul and Taviano are together living and loving in North End Boston, Thanksgiving is coming up and as Paul is not welcome at his mum and dad’s, the pair decide to have a friendsgiving dinner instead. Before this happens Paul is kidnapped. What follows is an action packed novella that is enjoyable to read where new alliances are made, and old enemies rear their heads. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
The sequel is just as fun as the first book with some vampire drama thrown in to spice things up. Paula and Taviano have settled into their vampire/human relationship and things are going somewhat smoothly. Until someone comes into their territory to shake things up. Taviano must act quickly with the help of some new vampire friends to save Paul and his family. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series as they work towards figuring out this new mystery.
An entertaining, short read that continues the story from book 1 (definitely not a standalone). Life continues for Paul and Taviano, but becomes significantly more complicated with additional reveals about Paul himself and the vampires in general. Lots of action, some intrigue, and still a lot of snark from our human MC.
I almost didn't pick Fangsgiving by Robert Winter to read because it sounded more like a silly and sappy rom-com based upon solely on the title.
However I'M SO GLAD I DID. OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE MISSED AN AMAZING STORY!
I couldn't put this book down. I was absolutely and unregrettably captivated, mesmerized and engrossed in the unique world building of vampires and the well-developed characters. I want more from this author!!!!
Why are Taviano and Paul's holidays never easy? First Paul was murdered at Christmas (but got better), and now he's been kidnapped by some creepy vampires with capital-p Plans for him. If Paul and Taviano are going to make it to their first Thanksgiving together, they'll need the help of a found family of humans, demons and vampires. Fangsgiving is part 2 of the HOLIDAYS SUCK! trilogy that began with Vampire Claus. Fated mates, a huge age gap (like, 150 years), ancient myths, a bit of gore -- that's what a holiday should be, right?
I was so very excited when I heard that there was going to be another book with Taviano & Paul. When I had finished the first book I knew I wanted more. Anyway, so we are about 10 mths in to their relationship & they still can't keep their hands off each other. Taviano's "demon" still doesn't like the idea of turning Paul & Taviano is not comfortable with Paul sleeping with him. Very early on, we find Paul being kidnaped by Traviano's maker and meeting the most creepy vampire of all, the first made. She is bat s*** crazy. There is an ancient myth that apparently involves Paul's family, though we are not really sure all the details of it. We get some backstory on that, but it's still up in the air on what it really means & what it ultimately will do to Paul. We also meet a couple of new characters that I absolutely adored. I can't wait for the next book, though it is the last as this is now a trilogy.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest opinion.
This is book two in the Holidays Suck Trilogy by Robert Winter. It picks up ten months after the ending of Vampire Claus. Taviano and Pauls relationship has gotten stronger since the first book, even with both of their secret doubts as to if their love is real or just the product of Tavianos demon side orchestrating events.
In this book more characters are introduced, some of Paul’s family as well as some new vampire alliances. Some evil vampires, as well as, one from Tavianos past kidnap paul and some of his family, to preform a secret ritual. Of course all of this leads to more questions than answers.
When i got to the end of this book, i was so sad to realize that book 3 is not out yet. This does have a happy for now ending, but i just need to know about Paul’s past and what it has to do with Taviano’s vampire side. This series will pull you in and make you want more of their story and thats just the plot. The steam in this series is middle of a southern summer hot.
As I believe this story would make more sense after reading the first book, Vampire Claus, I strongly recommend reading them in order. Fangsgiving picks up with Paul and Taviano months after the first book, where they have become more settled into their relationship and the changes in their lives after Vampire Claus ended.
Paul has a kind heart that Taviano wants to preserve, but being a human in a relationship with a vampire can be dangerous. When Taviano's past comes calling, both Paul and Taviano find help in new and unexpected places.
I liked seeing the bond, love, and trust that Paul and Taviano have for each other. I liked seeing Paul and most of his family. They are wonderful together, and they take the events well considering everything. I liked the new vampires, but I don't want to give too much away in this review. So, I'll just say that this was a fun, action-filled short story that adds well to the series. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book.
*Copy provided to Bayou Book Junkie for my reading pleasure. A review wasn't a requirement.*
This is the second book in the series and continues the story of human/vampire couple Paul and Taviano. It definitely helps to have read what comes before, so if you haven’t already, I’d strongly recommend that you start with book 1! I enjoyed seeing these characters again and getting the chance to know more about them and to see how their dynamic has developed. This is an easy story to get drawn into— the premise is compelling, the main characters are easy to invest in and the plot gathers steam quickly and goes to some interesting places.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Another great addition to Paula and Taviano’s story
I am really enjoying this series and I love that we got to see more of Paul and Taviano, who are still going strong. Similar to Vampire Claus, the MCs had great chemistry. Sometimes second books with established couples can feel like the chemistry is muted but that definitely didn’t happen here. In addition to seeing where Paul and Taviano are almost a year on we get a interesting action plot as well. Taviano’s maker makes an appearance and drama ensues with some interesting developments. I’m certainly looking forward to the next book in the series and I’m really glad that this is a series that didn’t stop at book one.
It was a long wait for the second book. I enjoyed Vampire Claus so much and felt we needed more from this wonderful couple. Robert did not disappoint. Paul and Taviano was just as enjoyable now as they were when we were introduced to them some time ago.
Trying to settle into a routine of human/vampire proportions, things are going as well as can be expected until a mysterious visitor arises. Paul and his family, is in trouble. Its up to Taviano and some new vampire friends to save the day.
Living for every moment of vampire drama!
**I received this ARC from GRR for my honest feedback.**
I have not read the first book but didn't feel it was needed, since much of the start of their story is repeated in this one.
It's a quick and easy read, with little angst and conflict. A different take on the vampire origin and how they work. I'm curious to know how the author came up with it.
I liked the sassy grandmother and the supportive friend group. Was expecting it to have more humour in it from how the blurb was written, and would have wanted a bit more out of the enemy encounter.
Paul and Taviano continue to adjust to life and control of the territory of North Boston. This was a good installment in their story. I do like these characters and now we have more vampires in Malik and Rani. I have enjoyed the overall plot and it will be interesting to see what happens next. This is quite the unique take on vampires and their magic. Paul and Taviano are definitely building their own family here.
This was a fun opportunity to catch up with Paul and Taviano and see where their relationship is going. As always, they are cute together and their devotion is very sweet. It was good to add in some new characters - human and vampire - and leaves the door open to new adventures (I know book #3 is in the works!). The pace was a lot faster and the plot slightly more outlandish that the first, but hey - it's a book about vampires! Definitely a fun, feel good quick read.
Nice! This is a new take vampiric abilities, and I like it! Admittedly, I love vamp stories, so I’m biased. Tying the four elements to them is interesting. I love the whole Italian family part, and the scattering of Italian phrases throughout. I like Friendsgiving, too, and the various names the vampires use for the supernatural part of themselves. The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that Paul is in even more danger than before. To be continued!
I like this book, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as the first. The book has lots of action and drama but has a lot less romance and spice. I am still kind of confused that the quintessence even was? I definitely have questions, and I am hoping they will be answered in the next book. Although in this book, much of the time has Taviano and Paul separated, I could feel the love Paul and Taviano have for each other. I am looking forward to continuing the series.
Paul and Taviano make a wonderful couple and here we get some real complications from enemies old and "new", if you can consider vampires new, lol. Taviano's maker is involved and we learn more about the history of both Taviano and Paul's family. This is a Friendsgiving that is hard won and that these two will never forget. Can't wait for the next book in the series.
This was an action packed and fun second novella with Paul and Taviano! I thought it was exciting and bit campy! A vampire and a human pair can have their difficulties, especially when said human gets kidnapped before the holidays can really begin. Paul is such an adorable human and Taviano must save him. All ends well but I believe we are set up for a future fiasco around another holiday maybe!
Paul and Taviano are back. Paul is kidnapped along with members of his family by a vampure who porports to be the Queen of Vampires. Taviano's secret is out to the family. Nonna was a great secondary character as well as the intoduction of Malik and Rani. Can't wait for the third and final instalment
They will get kidnapped by a mysterious vampire leaving their mate looking for them. They will get help from an unexpected source as they try to find his mate. Life will get more interesting and complicated for all of them. Will they finally get reunited? Who is behind the kidnapping? See just what is going to happen next
I have just been introduced to Robert Winter and oh my! I am so glad. I loved this book. Had to go back and read Vampire Claus and I loved that book. Can't wait for book three. This demon is too much. The back story of the family which will explain most of this whenever it comes to light will be a doozy.
I really didn't know I needed these vampire books until I read the first in this series. I am loving this series and already know I'll be a little sad when the series is complete. This book continues Taviano and Paul's story. It is exciting, and I really like seeing a continuing relationship. I'm very much looking forward to the next book and can't wait to see where the story goes!
I'm really glad to see this series continued -- I've missed both Paul and Taviano! -- but it seems a little bit of a middle child. It's obvious that the author is going somewhere with these characters, but the payoff isn't yet. Satisfying as both a story and more development into Paul and Taviano's lives, but I wish I had the whole picture already. Now I'm anxiously awaiting the next holiday..
