A Valkyrie with Haphazard Magic A Fallen Angel Seeking Redemption An Unlikely Crime-Solving Duo When Meg Mefford is found murdered in Mystic Cove, Kara is eager to join in on the investigation. Why? Because the number one suspect, as far as she is concerned, is Dagon Vulter--the very fairy she is trying to take down for her mom's murder. But it doesn't take long before Zane and Kara realize more than just Dagon may have wanted Meg dead. As the two detectives move farther and farther away from Dagon being the killer, Kara can't let go of her need to punish Dagon and seek her own justice for her mom's murder. Can Kara separate her need for revenge and put the true killer away? Or will her desire for vengeance blind her to the truth?

Kara has long since discovered that the mother that left her as a baby on the Sensei's doorstep did so to protect her and recently discovered that she had been killed shortly after that. Zane, Kara, Rota, Link and Alfred long suspected that Dagon was the one who killed her and now they're planning to prove it, unfortunately part of the plan was to get close to his assistant but when Kara went to meet her, she'd been murdered. During the investigation there are several suspects but everyone seems to have an alibi. Lots of surprises with some interesting twists and when they are deep into the investigation, they find their answer just as an innocent walk in on the murderer setting up someone else to take the fall for the murder. Zane, Link and Kara rush in and rescue the innocent women and catch the murderers. While watching the parade, Kara see's something that she knows will prove Dagon killed her mother and the group forms a plan and lures him to Kara's cottage where all hell breaks loose but the truth finally comes out and Dagon is arrested and stripped of his powers. Really exciting in parts, a great read.
Another great adventure for Kara and Zane and their friends!! Great mystery about who murdered the mayor’s assistant right before Kara was supposed to meet with her for some secret information. Could it be about how the mayor murdered Kara’s mother years ago? Plenty of suspects and a wonderful twist at the reveal. Outstanding wrap-up to Mayor Dagon’s reign of terror as Kara, along with the help of many friends and family, outwit Dagon and Kara’s mom’s murder is finally resolved. Jenna St. James’ stories are always a wonderful diversion from real life. Looking forward to more.
An Unlucky Murder is Book 6 in the Kara Hilder series by Jenna St. James.
I really loved this book. Kara and Zane are moving forward in their relationship which I absolutely love!
The mayor's assistant is murdered, and Kara and Zane investigate. There are no shortage of suspects and this one really kept me guessing until the end.
Some great twists and turns I definitely didn't see coming.
This is such a great series with excellent worldbuilding and a well thought out mystery.
Mystical Book Kara can't let go of her need to punish Dagon and seek her own justice for her mom's murder. Can Kara separate her need for revenge and put the true killer away? Or will her desire for vengeance blind her to the truth? This is a great mystical book. Kara is a paranormal witch. She is sure her father killed her mother. She wants to catch the culprit in a murder. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
When Dagon Vulters PA, Meg texts Kara and tells her she has some information for her, Kara is both shocked and hopeful.
But arriving at Meg's Kara discovers her body and the hunt is on for her killer.
Entangled in this is Kara's determination to address her own mother's death at the hands of Dagon himself.
Odd references to Crystal ordering charcuterie when she's previously stated she's entirely plant based and again the repetition of the one hour mermaid deal are irritating... it was 2 hours. Continuity matters.
A whole town filled with suspects makes the task of whittling thru alibis difficult. Kara and Zane are again a team to be reckoned with. With Rotas' help with research, they solve the murder, plus, a plus for Kara. She discovered evidence to prove the mayor of the town, murdered her mother, decades ago. His trip to prison leaves the town with out a mayor, but, Kara and her friends believe Rota would be a perfect candidate. Cannot wait for the next journey for Kara.
I am always grateful to see a new book by Jenna St James in the Kara Hilder series appear on Amazon. From the first page to the last, I was totally engrossed in the story. Plenty of twists and turns with few suspects, a dramatic conclusion and a resolution to a plot line that has been continuous since book one. I confess that Kara's insistence on one particular suspect being "the one" got old but the overall story was well written and quickly paced to keep me turning the pages.
Absolutely fantastic Jenna St. James!!! I definitely didn't see the book ending this way!!! Always so many twists and turns, this one just shocked me in the best possible way!!! I don't do spoilers so I will just just say WOW!!! The characters are always so well developed and written and yes, I actually laughed out loud at the description of Link with his shirt off, lol.
I've enjoyed all the books. So much going on all at once. Rota will be a great mayor if she can get elected. Zane and Kara need to up their relationship. The cat and Link are a real hoot. Good Mysteries and entertaining.
I can’t get enough of this series. It is great reading, lots of action, awesome mysteries and characters crafted with depth and feeling. I especially enjoy Kara coming into her own and her developing family, friendships and love interest. Highly recommend.
After the Mayor's assistant is killed, Zane and Kara take on the case. But at the same time, Kara finds a clue to her mother's killer that she can finally arrest.
You’ll love, An Unlucky Murder, it’s probably one of the funniest and most exciting books she’s written so far. Jenna, St. James is a master at thinking of new ideas and wrapping an exciting. Interesting and fun story around them.
Overall, a solid cozy mystery series. A few times in this book Kara's insistence that Dagon was the murder became tiresome. There are a few plot inconsistencies from book to book in the series, but nothing major. I enjoy the characters and their interactions.
Reviews aren't my thing, but after 6 books, I believe it deserves one. A magical welcome distraction from regular life with a mystery solving strong witch lead character is what we all need, I think.
Totally enjoyed it! This is a well written and has well developed characters. The story is catching and with the strong characters makes for a very enjoyable read. Great Reading Everyone!
Kara can be so stubborn but yet so fierce. It’s what I love about her! Jenna continues enchanting us with her characters and I look forward to the adventure! Job well done, Ms. St. James. Job. Well. Done.
