Eryn Scott

Eryn Scott is the author of heartwarming cozy mysteries. Her novels feature close friendships and strong families because those are the most important things in her life -- a little humor doesn't hurt either.

She calls the Pacific Northwest home and doesn't plan on changing that anytime soon. Eryn loves to hike, horseback ride, knit, ski, and read. She believes musicals are the greatest thing since lattes, even though she's not particularly good at singing or dancing -- hey, a girl can dream, right?

Her first cozy mystery series, Pepper Brooks, is based on some of the greats in classic literature. Each book features a different author from Shakespeare to Austen. Eryn's newest series is set in a little town called Stoneybrook. The Stoneybrook Mysteries follow local jam-maker Hadley James as she solves mysteries in her town's year-round farmers market. From deceased knitters to sabotaged florists, these crafty citizens keep Hadley and her twin brother, a deputy sheriff, on their toes. Pebble Cove Teahouse Mysteries are great for readers who love a hint of paranormal with their mysteries. These books feature a tiny town tucked between craggy coastline and rocky shores with quirky characters of both the living and non-living variety. Look for new releases from all three of these series in 2022 as well as Eryn Scott's new cozy series.

The combined rating for this collection of "firsts" in a series is a 4.25 🌟 read rounded ⬇️ to 4 🌟.

The first book in the collection is Littered with Trouble (A Whiskers and Words Mystery #1) and is a 4.25 🌟 read rounded ⬇️ to 4 🌟.

The second book listed in the collection, A Body in 3B (A Murder at the Morrisey Mystery #1) was actually withdrawn from the omnibus after an update from Kindle, which is a shame as it looked to be a great read.

The actual second book in the collection is Steeped in Suspicion (A Pebble Cove Teahouse Mystery #1) and is a 4.5 🌟 read rounded ⬆️ to 5 🌟.

The third book in the collection is A Crafty Crime (A Stoneybrook Mystery #1) and is a 4 🌟 read.

The alternative offered book that is fourth in the collection is Literally Dead (A Pepper Brooks Mystery #1). This book was a DNF at roughly 15% and just wasn't for me. For some reason "literally" everything about the novel grated on me the wrong way, so it won't be a series that I'll continue with. I've chosen not to rate the read.

Littered with Trouble - Cats and books, the purrfect setting for a cozy mystery.

The town is adorable, and I look forward to getting to know the cast of characters better in future books. Lou and her best friend have great chemistry. Encouraging each other in life and crime. lol

A little light spark of potential love interests for both woman, a complex mystery only a book nerd would love, and a satisfying ending for everyone. Can't ask for more from a series starter.

You'll enjoy this book if you prefer your mysteries to have many layers, references to classic literature, and many cat antics.

A Crafty Crime - A cute start to a series.

I love cozies that have the town as its own character, and this one is shaping up to be a hilarious small town. With so many of my favorite small town quirks.

Twins are always such dynamic characters in an average book, but in a cozy mystery, with one half being apart of the police for, it really ramps everything up. Hadley and her brother Paul have such a strong sibling bound, I could feel it come to life through the pages as this story progressed.

The characters in this book were all unique, with emotional range and relatable small town back stories. While I wish this series was in 1st person, I look forward to the next book, and hope to explore more of the town, and it's locals.

Eryn is a master of writing deep main characters, with emotional baggage to work through. While this series is light hearted I am so excited to join Hadley as she navigates her new life and her business.

You'll love this series if you enjoy your cozies with a sassy town, full of drama and deep family bonds.

Literally Dead - OMG. This book had me at the first chapter.

I love love love everything about this story. A true amateur sleuth, bumbling around, flinging accusations, knowing with everything she has that she knows who the killer is. It's fantastically written. I love Pepper so much, and excited to get to know her throughout these books.

I did not expect the final twist at all, caught me by surprise, but made total sense looking back at all the clues. It was such a well laid out mystery, my anxiety was in over drive for most of the book!

The small town setting, mixed with a college town reminded me of my own college days, it's just perfection. All of it.

You'll love this book if you love bumbling sleuths who make mistakes, provide a few embarrassing laughs, and have a strong support system.

Steeped in Suspicion - I downloaded this without reading the blurb, thinking it was non-paranormal, and turns out, she can speak with ghosts, so that was a nice surprise. (as paranormals are my favorite lol trying to branch out!) It's the cover though, this series has some of my favorite covers! Instant download just from the cover alone.

At first I was a bit leery of this feeling like everything that could have gone wrong in her life did (don't want to give spoilers), but Rosemary has a lot of baggage. As the story went on, it does a great job at stretching all of those things out, and giving them the breath they need to not leave her seeming like a poor pitiful me type character.

I loved the flow of this story, it did a great job at introducing the town, and setting up the series. The mystery turns into two separate crimes, that has Rosemary talking to the majority of the townsfolk, and visiting many sites around town. I love this because it really let us get to know the area without any info dumping or out of place pop ins. The story does meander in places but it does it in a way that adds depth to Rosemary's emotional turmoil. Not just with her current situation in Pebble Cove, but also the situation she left behind in Portland. She does so much growth in this one book, that the slow parts of the story help it feel like it takes place over a much longer span of time.

All of the characters are quirky, and well developed. They feel like people I've met in my own small town and I look forward to getting to know them in future books. I'm glad that the ghosts feel like they will be as much apart of the cast as the living. So many ghost type books leave them in the sidelines, only using them when it's a must. But these ghosts enteract with Rosemary, same as the townsfolk. I was so EXCITED that romance was not apart of this book at all. YEEEESSSSS.

There were a few twists that I didn't expect, but was totally screaming NO WAY, NOW IT ALL MAKES SENSE when they were revealed. Not everything was solved, and I'm glad because it just makes who they surround a bigger part of the cast, which I was rooting for.

You'll love this mystery if you love cozies that star a mid-twenties, educated sleuth who is working to find her own path in the world.

I have read two of these and they were so SO good!

Steeped in Suspicion - Exciting! LOVED it!
What a great start! And it never once dropped or dragged: I loved the book from start to finish! Well written, which makes it so much easier to really immerse yourself in a book. It helped that I really connected to the main character Rosemary. She’s not good at small talk with people (although she learns), loves getting lost in a book, she’s open, honest, and real; she’s my kind of girl! She’s so sweet you can’t help but love her. I loved how I realized about the ghost before Rosemary did LOL. That was so funny. And I must say, I really loved the ghost too. I so loved this book, I’m really very enthusiastic. I’m in love with the story, the setting, the characters, including the ghost, no, sorry, Asher prefers to be called spirit. I did know whodunit much earlier than Rosemary did, but somehow that didn’t take away from the suspense, it was that good. Rosie has found her home and it made me feel at home too! The book gave me a good feeling. At the end of the book, there’s an offer to read the first chapter of the book from Asher’s POV and I jumped at the chance! A fun read that I recommend to all cozy mystery readers.

Littered With Trouble - Excellent!
Some things have to grow on you in order for you to love them. This was such a slow-burning love. Because I had a little bit of trouble getting into it. I felt it was a tad on the serious side at first. But I did enjoy it, felt that it was well-written, good! I did notice that the pages seemed to be turning by themselves. And then, wow, excellent! Slow love can really turn into the best kind of love! What started out good turned into great. Very well-plotted. Technically it was as close to perfection as you can get. Maybe I’d have liked the tone to be just a little bit more lighthearted, but it had such a smooth flow that I found myself completely immersed in the story anyway. Lou notices every detail, and I’m like that too, so that created a bond. That led to detailed descriptions. Lou’s love for the bookstore filled the book with hope, even though there was sadness too. All those positive things won me over slowly but surely! And now I just want more!

Enjoyable Fist Stories

I have not read anything by this author before and so reading the first of 4 book series seemed like a good start, and it was. I liked all 4 of them, but the third one was a bit draggy for me. The other three definitely will be series that I look for book #2. This is a lot of reading with over 800 pages, but each book is really different from the others and are well written with all the elements of a good cozy murder mystery. This is a good read. I will not say more because part of the joy of reading these stories is discovering each one! This is definitely on my recommended list!

A collection of beginnings...

At the end of each of these stories, I was ready to start ready the next book in that series. Erin Scott has obviously got a knack for writing cozy mysteries. She characters are quirky and likable, well, her heroines are anyway. Her villains are usually sort of weird or creepy. Even the pets in her stories are fun additions. The plots are fairly simple, but she adds enough crazy or silly twists that things keep moving along interestingly. Overall, fun and recommended. Now, go read each of these series, as I'm going to.

A Very good read

I enjoyed reading the first books in their series. I hadn't read any of them before, so that made them especially enthralling. The stories were humorous and dramatic, especially since the characters were interesting and believable. I now have several new series to read, and a new author too, all for a fantastic price. Escapism at it's best.

entertainment enough I suppose

Each one of these novels has one or two errors, they also have obvious set ups for the next in series. As for the stories themselves they are lightweight with a touch of feelings, which I suppose perfectly describes a cozy mystery, except I’ve read a lot better.

four books,one author

I really enjoyed all 4 books even though they were not related or part of the same series.

Plenty of twists and turns to keep me thinking and on my toes until I am shocked by the reveal.

Great reading!

A fun way to introduce the reader to this rather whimsical group of "First in a Series." I most enjoyed the Pebble Cove series and finished that series. Will continue on with the Stonybrook books and possibly catch up in the other cozy mysterious later on.

Who Did it?

As a Shakespeare lover, I love how his words are intertwined throughout this story. I also love how every time we think we know who the murderer is, we find out we're wrong. Great story! Another win for Eryn Scott.

This book had 4 first in series books in it. They were all pretty good and kept me guessing. It was only at the end I would figure it out.
