Music on the Bones is a story of fiction inspired by true events.
Set in the USSR and the USA in the late 1960s, and inspired by true stories of that time, Music on the Bones is just as timely and relevant today.
Max, a young doctor, is trapped behind the Iron Curtain. He and his friends are striving to work for freedom of expression, and freedom from oppression, against an Orwellian backdrop of constant surveillance and persecution. They are willing to risk imprisonment, or worse, to listen to the forbidden music of the free world, which holds the promise of another life.
Valerie is an American college student who has the opportunity to study Communism in the USSR. When their two worlds collide, both of their lives will change.
Music on the Bones celebrates the inspirational power of the arts and is ultimately the story of how music has the ability to change the world.

This book, which is very well-written, is based on true events in the 1960s and captivated me from the first page. While young people in America at that time had non-stop access to rock and roll music, it was forbidden in the USSR. The story contrasts teens in the U.S. and a group of teens in the USSR who both loved music but the latter group literally put their lives at risk by listening to forbidden music — 45 RPM records, printed on discarded X-ray film. Life in the Soviet Union was difficult and dangerous for all the citizens of that country, but particularly the Jewish population, which was highly discriminated against. The plot follows Valerie, an American college student and the daughter of a politician, who travels to the USSR for a study program and sees first hand (and records through film and photography) the atrocities committed by the Communist government. Between the work she did and the brave action of countless other young people in both countries, a wave of freedom was started that couldn't be turned back. This book is the basis for the upcoming Music on the Bones movie and the album, which was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in the summer of 2022. It was a fitting spot to create the album, considering the fact that The Beatles' music was so instrumental in the lives of so many young people trying to cause a revolution for the good.
