Heinz Heimsoeth (12 August 1886, Cologne – 10 September 1975, Cologne) was a German historian of philosophy.
Heimsoeth began his studies at Heidelberg in 1905, but soon transferred to Berlin, where he studied with Wilhelm Dilthey, Alois Riehl, and Ernst Cassirer. Due to his interest in Kant he transferred in 1907 to Marburg, where he studied with Hermann Cohen and Paul Natorp. He graduated in 1911 with a thesis on Descartes. After a year studying in Paris with Henri Bergson he was habilitated with a thesis on Leibniz.
After two years teaching at Marburg, he was appointed Professor at the University of Königsberg in 1923. In 1931 he transferred to a chair in philosophy at Cologne.
After the Nazi seizure of power in 1933 Heimsoeth himself joined the Nazi Party and was named Dean of his faculty, a position he held again in 1943/44. He became Professor Emeritus in 1954.
A tremendous work compiled from the combined conference. in the first conference, he discusses how morality is formed through direct influences such as consciousness, utilitarian thought, language, environment, culture, in the second conference the views of opponents of morality on the axis of Nietzsche and Mandeville, in the third conference the evaluation of morality from the point of view of septics and scientists, in the fourth chapter he discusses prohibitive systematics, considering the attitudes of polytheistic and monotheistic religions, moral-based philosophical movements, and in the fifth conference the utilitarianism of man, the production of morality, the hereditary problems caused by the coexistence factor, which has occurred from good to better with urbanization, are described in detail. It is a very valuable work at the point of accumulation. because it does not have a biased language. i really like these kind of books. it just conveys what he wants to tell what is the most without touching his idea. that's why I can recommend this work to anyone interested.
Exactly what is the phenomenon of morality, which is man's biggest problem until today; what does man understand when he says morality, he actually does mind gymnastics on what morality is.
