I was born in Oregon and raised in northern California. While growing up I listened to my grandparents' and my mother's stories about life on the ranch they owned in Douglas County, some miles east of Roseburg.
Later (after I retired from work as a professional editor for an aerospace firm) I began writing fiction based on these stories... my first book was "Western Rose," which is based on the unusual courtship of my grandparents.
A medieval studies major in college, I have also written two medieval novels, one about a Crusader knight and a girl raised in a harem (!) who end up at the court of Eleanor of Aquitaine when she was Queen of England. The second novel is about a Templar knight who falls in love with a young woman troubadour... but of course because of his vows of chastity, he cannot marry.
I hope you will enjoy my books; I always like hearing from readers, so feel free to email me (carolynw@cruzio.com) and also see my website - http://www.lynnabanning.com.
This author is be coming one of my favorite. I loved this book. It's a story of a young woman traveling to Oregon to teach school on an Indian reservation. Charlotte is kidnapped by some braves from a different tribe. Will follows the lace pieces from her petticoat and have to fight one of the braves to rescue her. Will is a Texas Ranger who is tracking his half-brother Luis. Wonderful story of love and faith.
An engaging historical western that's just sweet all around. The love scenes are tame and too few, but Charlotte's and Will's attraction and love for each other feels true. 3 stars
When Indians kidnap Charlotte Greenfield from a wagon train, Will Bondurant, Texas Rangers, detours from his trailing of a killer to come to her aid getting knifed in the fight for her. Thus begins their travel across country at first trailing the wagon train and then on their own as he takes her to Oregon. Along the way they run into two men after her, the same Indian band and the killer Will is trailing. Lots of excitement and romance. Good story.
Charlotte Greenfield is crossing Nebraska in 1861, on her way to Oregon to teach little 'savages.' Along the way, she is abducted by Indians. Will Bondurant, of the Texas Rifles, crosses their path and challenges the Indian who claims the redhead to a fight. While fighting to free the young woman, Will is knifed and Charlotte must try to save him from infection.
When they find the wagon train again, no one can take Charlotte in except a single man who makes suggestive remarks to her. Will isn't pleased and decides to take Charlotte to her Indian school, by way of chasing the murderer he's been following. Charlotte becomes 'Charlie,' Will's nephew, a whiskey-drinking, cigarette-making and smoking youngster.
I just thought this was a very average yarn. 'The morning after' ... just didn't ring true for a preacher's daughter. Actually, I just thought it was boring.
