A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.
I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)
Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.
I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)
As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.
Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.
Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.
I wanted to give it more stars but just couldn't. The concept is amazing but the story is just lacking. It's choppy, dialogue is awkward at times and honestly I'm glad kik died because I was really sick of him as a character. Too much happened all at once. I felt like most of the book dragged and then the last 8 chapters just included everything at breakneck speed. I want to know how it ends but just don't want to waste my time on another book.
An amazing return to Silvers world. I have been wanting to return to this series for a while now and I am so glad the authors complied!
Silver honestly has the worst luck/fate/past…. And on and on. Not only did she grow up with Underhill as a mother (1st book), but she also lost one of the men she was close to (1st book). Now that she realizes she is on a longer mission than she thought, how many more trials will she go through and who might be lost along the way?
Our FMC has truly grown from the wild woman that we saw in the first book. She is adaptable, strong, and righteous even when she wants to be selfish. I found her more relatable in this book and truly appreciated her characters personality.
I honestly felt a lot in this book but I cried more than once. The reality that people will be lost in war is real but DANG! I didn’t want it to go down like it did (cry face). I can’t wait for the final book.
Is it bad to say that I think I was a little bit happy to see Silver separated from her love interests? I think I found the romance to be really shallow and I didnt find that it really added anything to the story. I’m happy that she kind of went off in her own direction, as heartbreaking as it was. She has really come into herself and I love seeing her being kick ass and amazing. I really and truly feel like we wouldn't have seen this part of her like this if she had the guys around still, there was too much emphasis placed on them and not enough on her to move the story forward.
This installment started off pretty choppy for me, and my hopes slowly dwindled with all of my expectations. But we came back, and we came back strong. This book is action packed, super fast paced and keeps you on your toes. I love a good quest, and this fits that bill perfectly.
Kelly St Clare is one of my absolute faves, so I don't understand why I don't like this series more than I do.
Silver is, objectively, everything I would want in a heroine, and while she's my da ourite but if the series, there is still something about her as the narrator that I struggle to connect with.
I also never felt much towards the romance in book 1, and this book did nothing to change the fact, considering the events.
So left with mixed feelings, really! I wasn't a fan of what happened with Unbalance, but there is the potential for the situation to be interesting, if it's going where I think it's going. I'll definitely read the next book, I guess I'm just a bit sad I didn't love it as much as the rest of Kelly's books.
I sometimes feel that I miss certain things since I read so fast, and this book really brought that home to me. I’ll get to that in a moment. Anyway, in this second book, Silver is mourning the loss from the first book, and she eventually realizes that something isn’t right with her love. In between trying to figure that out, she is battling the darkness, literally. I was so glad to see characters that I love, but it took me too long to realize that I knew them…see the statement above. LOL! This is a pulse-pounding, action-filled wild ride that I couldn’t put down. After the events at the end and meeting Andas, I can’t wait until the next one. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
I can’t come up with a title that will do this book justice.
First, while this trilogy can stand on its own, I recommend reading The Honey and Ice trilogy. It will give you the background of some of the key people that appear in this book and how they got to where they are now.
Second, this book has so much going on, it’s hard to leave a review without spoilers but I will do my best……
Silver thought she had defeated the darkness. As we know from the first book, her mother, Underhill, told her that ending the child thief was only the first step in her journey. The child thief was created by the darkness. She still needs to stop that darkness but first, she has to free Sigella.
We learn a lot about Silver in this book. She knows balance is of the utmost importance. However, since being taken from Underhill to fight the child thief, Silver has quickly learned about love and loss and that achieving balance can be soul crushing. She is torn when she learns what she needs to do to free Sigella. In her quest to free her, Silver meets who she believes is her nemesis, the Oracle. Self made by the jealousy she had for the Oracle growing up. She also meets a few others from the past trilogy and all are willing to help her free Sigella and fight the darkness in any way they can. She also finds changes in Underhill that she can’t believe and can’t quite grasp. We don’t know much about Sigella or even why she is in Silver, and let’s face it, she doesn’t seem all that nice. Will she be an ally, foe or just take off never to be seen again?
Once Sigella is freed, Silver must, again, pick up the fight to keep the balance and defeat the darkness. In this fight, Silver jumps many times between Underhill, the scale realm and the Fae lands. With each “visit” to these places, she learns something new about her mother (aka Underhill), the Oracle, the darkness and herself.
I absolutely loved the first book of this trilogy, Thorn Kissed and Silver Chained. I didn’t know how Shannon and Kelly would top it but I was quite sure they still had a few surprises left for us. I am happily surprised I was wrong. They gave us A LOT of surprises.
Do yourself a favor, set apart some time to read this book in one sitting if you can because the action doesn’t stop. And you might want some tissues. This book will kick you in the feels in oh so many ways.
Ivy Touched and Bronze Blade, the second book in the Honey and Ice Series by Kelly St Clare and Shannon Mayer, and it explodes into action the moment you hit the first page. Welcome back to the world of Underhill, tie on your runners, you're going to need them.
Silver's quest is set before her, her journey laid out by Underhill herself. But with all that Silver has been through, a bit of defiance awakens, and she bargains with herself to still do the bidding of her Mother, and to follow this new feeling within. This coming into her own sends out ripples of change throughout Underhill that manifest in strange ways.
Silver may be young and largely untested, but she is a wild thing of Underhill. A wild thing of the ways of Underhill, new to the understanding of balance and all that it means, the implications for those she loves, and for herself. With balance there is light and there is darkness, there is friendship and there is betrayal. There is love and there is loss. There is life and there is death. Through Silver, the Wild Thing of Underhill, we feel all of these emotions. And it is the sting of loss that will have you in tears.
It's hard to write a review about a book like this and not tell you everthing that happens. And I want to tell you all of it, about what I think happened and why, about what I think happens next, to share how I felt when certain things did happen. Why I laughed out loud for pages, and how tears rolled down my cheeks even though I tried to hold them back. And thinking of all that, I have tears in my eyes and a bittersweet smile on my lips as I write this. Only the best of stories can do that to you. Kelly St Clare and Shannon Mayer are master story tellers. Believe me when I tell you, they have created a tale that will twist you up in all manner of shapes before, and up to, the very last page.
Ivy Touched and Bronze Blade is a must read. The entire series of 5 books are must reads for any fantasy lover. Well done Shannon and Kelly, very well done indeed.
I have fallen in love with this world and this 2nd series takes my connection to Underhill to a whole other level and has me loving it even more. Underhill must have balance and in Silver’s journey there has been anything but balance. Silver is the messenger and representative for Underhill. She has never known a human life or Fae life, yet is thrust into these worlds to do battle against the enemy of Underhill. Along the way she is forced to learn fast and outwit those who she opposes. Raised by Underhill and taught brutal lessons about balance in all things, she is ruthless in her tasks, fierce but also innocent and curious like a child at times…. Remember, balance… I love her for her innocence as well as her snark and tenacity. Early in the series I had a tendency to see Underhill as one of the antagonists, however, the understanding from this installment had me seeing things from a whole other perspective. I shed tears on Underhill’s behalf as well as Silver’s, and even the Oracle. These two authors slay my heart, mind and soul… this series once complete will be epic and may end up becoming one of my top 10 of all-time series. There are many memorable moments from this book, but the one that sticks with me is a quote I would LOVE to share here but due to the context and language I cannot… So, if you do get the book, AND YOU SHOULD, when you get to chapter 9 and read “The pawn of darkness had just ______ the wrong woman!” You will understand why this one just won’t leave my mind. And for those who think you get the gist of this one, trust me, you don’t. Crazy how one word can flip a saying on its head.. or on its face.. (Insert evil laughter here).
Unique Heroine in an Emotionally-charged, Fast-paced Adventure
Picking up immediately after Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains, Ivy Touched and Bronze Blade continues Silver’s story. Authors Mayer and St. Clare have expanded the World of Honey and Ice, growing characters, taking readers to new places, visiting some old friends, and triggering all the emotions. In short, revelations are made and oh the plot twists. Watch for easter eggs, both from within this series and other series by these authors. I did remove one star because I am still struggling to connect with Silver, but the overall story is worth it. Undeniably an enjoyable read.

Ivy Touched and Bronze Blade is the second book in the Honey and Ice Series by Kelly St Clare and Shannon Mayer, and even it says book 2 of 2, I'm pretty sure there is more to come! Yay! It starts right off where the first book ended so give that a re-read before you jump in. We are back in the wonderful world of Underhill.
It is very hard to write a review without any spoilers as many others have pointed out. The book is amazing, there is great character development and a wonderful exploration of the bonds of love and friendship.
Silver has received a quest from her mother Underhil and even though she sets out on the task, she begins to question things. Very much like how teenagers begin to question their parents at that age, but the stakes are so much bigger here!
We get more answers on who Silver is, and why she was raised the way she was raised. Why Underhill is changing the way it is and the ongoing war between Balance and Unbalance.
The story will carry you through all the emotions: Love, Lust, Passion, Pain, Grief. You will laugh and you will cry when reading this book. It is a fantastic combination of two great story tellers Kelly St Clare and Shannon Mayer.
Ivy Touched and Bronze Blade is a must read!
I do recommend reading the Honey and Ice trilogy beforehand. It is not a requirement but you will appreciate the background on some of the returning characters.
Again, I'm thinking (hoping!!) there is more coming and I'm eagerly waiting for the next book!!!
DAMN! Silver can not catch a break. This girl has been put through the wringer but still comes back tougher and stronger than ever!
Coming back into Silver’s story after the events that transpired in the first book, my heart was torn for her. The loss that she had to face while still trying to fight for survival, would tear anyone down, but Silver picks herself up, dusts herself off and continues to fight to end the darkness.
Silver is a unique and spunky woman. She’s got a lot of sass and wit but continues to keep the innocence about her. Silver continues to take us on her journey to end the evil that she has been tasked with, but along the way secrets and revelations continue to be thrown at her trying to push her to the breaking point. With the incredible makeshift gang (and family) she has helping her, will Silver be able to accomplish the tasks that others set before her, or will she finally succumb to the darkness?
The world building and imagery continues to be creative and imaginative, instantly bringing the story to life. And the storyline is filled with action, suspense, emotional turmoil, drama, angst, adrenaline inducing moments, and twists and turn throughout that kept me gripping my kindle tightly and turning the pages quickly just to see what happens next. And that ending – DAMN – I was not ready for it! Now I am waiting on bated breath for the next part of the story.
Welcome back to Underhill, and the land of the fae! Silver is back in this new installment. Cormac is gone, Silver is brokenhearted, but Aaden is...different to say the least. The big question...did the new tree do something to him when it pierced him? Or is there something more sinister at play? Think the questions stop there? Ha! Guess again! There are more than are going to pile on and you're going to be giving these authors some serious side-eye. LOL! Ivy Touched and Bronze Blade is another great addition to these two authors' combined efforts. You hit the ground running, and they leave you screaming for more. I promise you my tablet lives in fear of suddenly taking flight. LOL! When you start this book prepare to devour it and then wonder where it went. Silver is really maturing in this series and I'm loving it. Were you angry at Kik in the last book?? Well, this novel may or may not have a touch of redemption for the wayward land kelpie. We even get a surprise or two concerning Kik! Cue my jaw on the floor. There is so much going on in this book you're absolutely going to love it. I especially love how the authors tie the title into the story in subtle ways. Definitely keeps me page-turning to find out more every time. Loved book one? Don't miss book two. You already know the drill - prepare for twists, turns, drama, unexpected answers, and a cliffhanger that will leave you howling for book two. LOL! Hands down: 5 out of 5 stars.
If I’m being honest, I am really struggling to connect to this series. The story is interesting and I want to know how the darkness is defeated, but Silver and her romantic relationships are a distraction for me. Part of my problem is the multiple love interests. That is something I’m not a fan of. I know plenty of people are, but I feel that the relationships aren’t as authentic when there are multiple love interests. Note, this is NOT reverse harem. If you’ve read the first book, you know Silver has two men she is infatuated with. Silver spent her life being neglected and she has latched onto these two men who have shown her attention. This is the other issue I have with the relationships, especially now that I’ve finished this book. She doesn’t know what love is and assumes that’s what she has with Aedan and Cormac. Now knowing what happens, I think she has a connection to them, because they are her opposite. After losing Cormac in the first book, she spends a good portion of the beginning of this book whining about how much he had come to mean to her in such a short period of time and now she must protect Aedan. He has been acting strangely. Silver feels compelled to help fix him, while she also needs to free Sigella and defeat the second henchman of darkness. There are some interesting revelations in the book and like I said, I am interested to see how she defeats the darkness.
Wow! Ivy Touched and Bronze Blade was another seamless & epic book from Shannon Mayer and Kelly St. Clare. Yet again I could not tell which author wrote which parts. Though I could probably guess who made wretched our hearts out.
We pick up exactly where we left off, heart breaking all over again. But as we know, Silver is not done saving the realms yet. After losing Cormac, Silver notices Aaden is also acting strange though she cannot yet put her finger on it and must continue on with her journey. Things are changing though no one seems to know why or how. You’ll have to watch closely for all the twists and turns we will take with this one. Just when you think things are looking up….down they come. Feeling happy? That’ll change too. But we still have our heads held high while we support Silver as she embarks on this adventure.
Our favorite little bat Ory is still with Silver and we will meet our bestie Kik down the road. We also meet some very familiar faces that well….let’s just say it’ll be very exciting when you figure out who they are. We also meet some new allies that you’re going to like right away. The journey is not over though, and I can’t wait to see what these two amazing authors have thought of next.
I cannot deny that this book induced quite a lot of differing emotions, throughout reading it.
I can also admit that this one is even better than Thorn Kissed And Silver Chains and that's saying something lol.
Watching Silver battle the Darkness, through the past hurt and her own feelings, and seeing just how strong she is.
Seeing just how she takes all of that past hurt and to then use it, to not only make her stronger, but was without doubt extremely empowering for her.
It also helps her finally find and make her own friends and family!! People finally worthy to love and love her back, without expecting something in return for it and then losing a few of them in such a short amount of time was heartbreaking to read!!
As is always the case with Shannon's and Kellys books, the action is there, the laughter is there, the heartbreak and the love you are made to have for each and every character is there.
What more can anyone ask for?? I wonder if Shannon and Kelly would be ok to buy my tissues for all those tears I shed of my own 🤣 🤣 What do you think, hmm?? 🤔 🤔
I absolutely loved every single word this series is beyond brilliant.. I can’t wait to see how Silver's journey will end. And to find out what else these two can put Silver and Co through 🤣 😂
I was so excited to read this and I have read it in just one sitting and am now sat here blubbering but also a little stunned. We hit the ground running as Silver & co defeated the child thief and suffered a great loss but discover that the darkness has not in fact been destroyed and so must journey on. Silver is an extraordinary character who has been raised in Underhill and not in our world of humans and fae but has adapted so well. She is strong, she is snarky and she is sassy and boy can she kick ass and I did shed a few tears for her as she struggles to come to terms with Cormac. We travel to meet up with some old friends and discover answers to secrets and questions as Silver and her team try to figure out how to defeat the second henchman of darkness. The world building is incredible and you can easily visualise yourself there alongside Silver and the others as they battle on and the storyline is action packed, adventure filled and brimming with excitement, heart pounding moments and devastation and surprise. Twists and turns, most I did not see coming and be prepared to have your heart ripped out with this ending, I am still sat here reeling from it.
I loved this book! I have been waiting for this one to come out after the first book Thorn Kissed and Silver Chains. I was not sure that this book would be as good as the first one, but man let me tell you I think it might be even better. I love the characters, they are so well developed and the world building is fantastic! Silver is the daughter of Underhill, who or what is Underhill? The embodiment of magic. Underhill is not someone you defy, yet Silver dares to do just that. Her friends back her up all the way even though it might mean that Underhill will kill them. I love the action that this book has. I also love the sense of humor that these characters have and the sarcasm is amazing. Of course there are plenty of twists to keep you guessing. And I have decided that I quite love the kelpie Kik. I think everyone should have a sarcastic, cussing and loyal kelpie for a friend. If you are a fantasy lover, love a great story one that will have you gasping, holding your breath, laughing, cussing, and crying and cheering this one is for you. I couldn't put it down.
This is the second book in the trilogy and so much easy to get into than the first. I grew to love and understand the world that Shannon and Kelly created with Silver and this book definitely does not disappoint and keeps you craving for more! More answers, more hope for for the characters that we have started to learn to love and root for. Silver was hard to get to know and understand in the first book. As Silver, herself is just learning how to interact with our world. Yet here we grow to love her and want her to find love and happiness. So many challenges, choices and losses in her short life. Yet a great support system to help her keep going and to “Get a Fucking Grip” as one reminds her. She is not alone in the fight against Darkness. She has a bigger and higher purpose in this world. One that her life/ mother has prepared her for. Another roller coaster adventure at a very fast pace. Be ready for some heart break on this adventure, along with some laughs. I’m still in shock and a little dumbfounded and yet can not wait for the next book!
Just… what in the world. I have to say that I am a bit broken after this book and I am really hoping that book 3 will stitch me back together again, because… ya… I am a bit broken.
This book picks up right at the end of book 1, and Silver has a lot going on. She barely made it past the child thief from the first book, now there is another unknown causing issues. And who is behind both of them?
This book gives you an epic adventure that tests Silver to see how much she can take before she breaks. And after breaking, can she still go on?
I absolutely loved this book and I cannot wait for the next book!
Ivy Touched & Bronze Blade is book two in the World of Honey and Ice series and we’re back with our girl Silver!
I have to be honest, I don’t recall a time ever rooting more for a female lead who has been up against so many obstacles. Despite being a powerful Fae, she has lived a solitary existence and as time passes she creates more connections and finds more about her past but she just can’t seem to win!
At least personally, poor girl can’t catch a break. But in the battle versus the darkness, she is fierce and relentless and it’s this selflessness that makes me so invested in seeing her succeed!
Once again, I was completely immersed in this world and the characters. And that ending … here’s hoping there’s some hidden happy ending magic in store for book three cause Silver needs it!
Awesome Book.... This book has so many ups, downs, curves and twists that it will keep you on your toes at the edge of your seats. Better wear gloves while you read or you won't have any nails left cause you chewed them off. Silver has darkness coming at her from all sides. She has destroyed the child thief in book 1and now she has a 2nd dark evil to eliminate before she can get to the dark lord. Silver is loved by everyone she meets but evil, they hate her and want to eliminate her. She has to find a way to wipe out darkness and she has to help a certain person, who makes mean tea, escape her prison first. Then she will be able to go for the bad. I laughed and cried and cheered Silver, Kik, Olly and Peggy on throughout the book. Cheers to the author's. They know how to write and please their reader's......
I love the world-building, writing, and story in this series. If you are into true fantasy books, this series is for you. It’s light on the romance (although there is some), and heavy on the storyline. I LOVED getting to see what some of our favorites from the Honey & Ice trilogy are up to now. But the suffering that Silver has to endure over and over is simply heartbreaking. She just can’t catch a break. On the positive side, this book really shows her come into her own, as evidenced by her adaptation of "Earth speak," rather than the language of Underhill. And while there were some joyful moments, it is shadowed by so much loss. She’s overcome the child thief, just to realize the Darkness has new foes she has to battle, and new grief she has to endure. I am really hoping for some happy revelations and resolutions in the next book. Silver deserves some joy.
I don’t know how they do it but this is another fantastic tale of love, friendship and family by Shannon Mayer and Kelly St. Clare. This is one writing team that you do not want to miss reading. The writing just flows and you won’t want to put it down.
This story has it all! You get action, adventure, love and heartbreak. We read about Silver experiencing life’s firsts in a way that is not only heartbreaking but truly beautiful. The adventures that her and her friends go on are one of a kind that you will thoroughly enjoy.
There are so many quotes throughout the book that I found quite striking and would love to share with you in my review but I don’t like to leave spoilers so I’ll end with this.
You need to read this series! It will become your new go to book.
Silver defeated the 1st henchman of darkness, the children are safe. Now she must defeat the second. Of course she can do it! Oh wait...but first, she has to free the "guest" living inside of her since birth, no problem, until she learns what needs to be done and sets out to find another way. On her journey she finds out about her past and family she never knew about, loses the love(s) of her life...again...loses one of her friends and the only family she did know. With little time to mourn, she sets of to her original journey, to defeat the second henchmen of darkness, and in the process meets Unbalance himself, becomes something that she believes is a mistake, but will accept for now in order to keep those who live in Underhill.
Why are you still reading my review!?!?!? GO!!! Read the series!! Can't wait for the next one!!!
I have a lot of feelings about this book. It’s a big jumbled mixture of good and bad. Can’t say I’m surprised having read both books by both of these authors before. I really enjoyed the huge secret that the oracle tells Silver. It was unexpected but now looking back it makes so much sense.
Big players were killed and that honestly surprised me but I can’t say that I hated to see them go. They served their purposes and I believe that Kelly and Shannon have their own reasons for choosing to remove certain characters from the playing field.
I will be honest and say that I don’t enjoy these characters nearly as much as I liked the characters in the first 3 books. I’m enjoying seeing the story and events progress, I’m just less invested than I thought I’d be. I am curious to see how they wrap everything up in the last book!
Now that Silver has saved the children and the future queen of all fae from the child thief life should get easier right? No such luck. Now, she has to rid herself of a stowaway before she can complete a task for her Mother, AKA Underhill, and save both realms. But how do you do that while you are protecting those that you care about, even though you don’t understand what is happening to them?
Silver manages to make a few new friends and allies who happen to be characters that we already know and love. She also finds new enemies and they are who you least expect, which only makes you root for her even more, even though it rips your heart out.
This new adventure is packed with action, the signature snark that everyone loves, and heartbreak that sneaks in and makes you cry (twice).
Twists and turns and twisted again. Silver faces a boatload of mind blowing changes when trying to deal with what she terms the Darkness. In Alaska with the Queen and Oracle, in her “home” of Underhill, in ANY arena dealing with the Darkness or as corrected, the henchmen of the Darkness; nothing is clearly defined. Silver faces truths about herself she never knew, about the Oracle she’s always hated, about her friends and lovers. She comes to realize the necessity of the Balance/Unbalance requirements as well as their costs. Will she succumb to her wants or hold the future paramount? Again there is lots of angst, but the story is so brilliantly complex that this reader hardly noticed.
“Men are not always what the sonnets and stories would have you believe. Just because he looks like one you loved does not mean he, or they, are the same people with the same heart."
Picking right off from the end of the first book (what an ending that was! Certainly wiped a few tears away), we join Silver and her friends as she is tasked by underhill to go on a quest. The quest as we predict as dear readers, is never easy and also became an adventure of Silver discovering truths and developing the understanding of the necessity of balance. Ultimately, the price of balance. Highly recommend to readers who like fast action paced Fae stories with strong female leads.
