In the 1920s life is anything but easy for Hazel. With an abusive father, a timid mother and always standing in the shadow of her beautiful sister, she is left with no hope. One day she runs into Theodore, a handsome and mysterious man traveling through town. Hazel's life and emotions quickly become intertwined with his, destined for love and heartbreak.
Blinded by her feelings, she ignores the warnings from her mother. She runs from Texas to escape her troubled home life, thrusting herself into a roaring city in New York.
She immerses herself into the complex and chaotic world of her newfound love but is unaware of the dark and secretive reality that affords him such a luxurious life. She realizes too late that Theodore is not who she thought he was, and secrets lurk under the surface.

Wow

I don't like the age of Hazel when she meets Theodore but taking place during Prohibition it makes sense. Otherwise I LOVE THE STORY! So many twists and turns. Took me a few days to fully read it and hopefully Savannah writes another whether it's a new story or just an update, I'm positive it will be great!

You can definitely tell this is a debut novel due to formatting and some errors but the story was captivating and well thought out. I look forward to reading Savannahs next book once she releases it.

just the right amount of drama

She writes a nice story. Put together very well kept my interest and since I saw it on her TikTok chicken page. It was cute that she added chickens to the story.

I think this is an excellent debut book! The story really sucks you in. My only issue was Amazon Printing. My book came with no page numbers. This is not the fault of the author, though. I look forward to reading more from her!

War einer meiner ersten Englisch sprachigen Romane, es ließ sich sehr gut lesen. Der Schreibstil der Autorin gefiel mir sehr gut, auch das diese den typischen Südstaaten Akzent mit eingebaut hat machte das ganze noch realistischer. Die Entwicklung der Hauptfigur, die ganzen Höhen und Tiefen die diese durchlebt wirken wie eine echte Erzählung aus früheren Zeiten. Das Ende ist traurig und irgendwie schön zu gleich und wirkte auf mich so, dass irgendwann ein zweiter Teil erscheinenden könnte, in dem sich die vermeintliche Tragödie zum Ende des Buches doch noch eine gute Wendung nimmt.

I’m going to be honest my friend wrote this book … but I’m telling you I was terrified to read it … how would I tell my friend if I didn’t like it . Would I even be able to talk to them ever again . Then I read it and could not put the book down . I was pulled into everything the story had to offer and I was saddened when the story was over . The way she tied the title explanation into the end and tied it all together was chefs kiss .

Surprisingly enjoyed it

It’s not as spicy as I like to read and it started a little slow which is why it has 4 instead of 5 stars but I really did enjoy it. I thought I knew what going to happen every chapter and while some things were predictable, I was not expecting the ending that’s for sure. I loved the drama it had and I’m excited to see what Savannah comes up with next!

Absolutely amazing! Read it in less than a day. Loved the little addition of chickens into the book, since that’s the original reason why I follow this author; who I didn’t even know was an author until she said she wrote a book in one of her videos, and sure enough, this was one.
