This text describes successful ways in which English language learners have excelled in an arts-based methods program.Based on the workings of an award winning, and well-researched program called SUAVE (Socios Unidos para Artes Via Educacion - United Community for Arts in Education), this text delves into all aspects of classroom practice, as well as the professional development practices that support students' learning through the arts-based methods. A perfect supplement for any ESL course, this text is about ongoing practice and all the examples are from real classrooms through the voices of teachers, researchers, artists, administrators, and students
Overall, it was more about how the program came into being and the administrative sides of running it than any practical advice. All the rest of the knowledge was pretty common sense, in my opinion. Everyone has an identity as an artist, there will be tensions between the teachers and coaches (and that some of it will actually be good tension), etc. Perhaps a good introduction to arts integration program implementation, and some knowledge as to reasons why to implement them, but otherwise not very helpful if already in the field.
