When she’s not writing, Elsie can usually be found dreaming up new dishes, wandering coastal towns, or inviting readers back into the kitchen for one more mystery.
Sharp, Smart, and Full of Shocks Operation Double Eye by Elsie Gray hits hard from page one. Twists, double-crosses, and shadowy agendas keep the tension razor-sharp. The main character, Lily, wanted to get away from murder investigations. She moves back to her home town after her husband's death to open a restaurant. Yet she just can't help herself feel the pull to participate when the police ask for her help. With her mom's support she jumps in with both feet. She knows her mom is taking care of her daughter while she is out there investigating. This was a good mystery to read with fun characters and interactions. A lot of is it... or...? I read the book in one day. I did receive an ARC version.
This is the first book in this series, and I really enjoyed it. I will be on the lookout for more books by Elsie Grey. Lily Good is a former NYPD homicide detective who left her job and took her daughter and moved to the west coast after her husband was murdered working on a case for the CIA. Lily trains to become a chef and opens her restaurant called The Good Chef. As Lily and her daughter try to settle into their new life, Lily's old case is coming back to haunt her. Lily realizes that she must solve her last old case from NYPD in order to stay safe.
Operation Double Eye is Book 2 in The Good Chef Mysteries by Elsie Gray. I am enjoying this series. I feel that the author seamlessly moved from book 1 to 2. She is telling a story about Lily Good, her family and friends, and the story is growing from book to book. Book 2 is tied to the death of Lily's husband in #1. I believe that to enjoy this series the books should be read in order. In my opinion, this series should be on every mystery readers TBR list. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
A well written, intriguing story as Lily rebuilds her life after the suspicious death of her husband. Things were going well, until they weren't. As crime hits the small town she now calls home, is there any link to her past? I thoroughly enjoyed this story and recommend it to others.
I read this book as part of an advance reader team. I am voluntarily writing this review.
An amazing mystery. Lily is trying to rebuild her life but still has to figure out what happened. Wonderful characters that you will connect with. And a storyline that will rope you in from the first page and will keep you engaged with non-stop action. A fantastic book to read that will keep you guessing. I received a copy of this book from the author. I am leaving a voluntary and honest review.
This was a cozy thriller that starts off a new series. Lily is ready to start a new life in a peaceful town, only to find that it is not so easy to escape the past. There are several twists and turns, and Lily must use her previous detective skills to stay ahead of the killer.
I enjoyed reading this book, the storyline is well written and the characters are entertaining. I can't wait to read more from this author. I received this book as a Free ARC copy and I voluntarily leave this review.
I’ve read these backwards but while short, they’re good reads. There’s not much “good cooking” but more investigating for sure. If you want quick evening or weekend reads, this series will do
The Good Chef Mysteries ,what a great title for a wonderfully delightful series by Elsie Grey. The premise is this , we have Lily who has moved back home to Pine Grove , Oregon . Here she decides to open a restaurant called The Good Chef. She has a history of mystery and it’s when she is most bereft that she decides to become a chef. You see her husband was executed working undercover for the CIA Lily herself working NYC homicide for the NYPD has had enough and starts anew with her daughter figuring it’s safer on the Oregon coast, well it is safer than most. But you see she cannot escape the mystery ,it follows her around …literally as it seems that she’s left leads untied and clues left open in an old case and it needs closing down before her and her daughter are also hunted down and killed . She’s a chef now and has skills ,does this help her in this case against people who thinks her ills? A splendid murder mystery series that’s totally immersive and keeps your attention and the characters are endearing and fit for a mention . Elsie Gray blew me away with the storytelling and it was every bit a compelling read. Very enjoyable indeed
