A friend had recommended this story to me, and since I had Kindle Unlimited I decided to give it a try. I wasn’t sure I liked it at first, but it turned into a story that was touching, sweet, and had a good message. I’m glad I read it.

I liked this book. It was a simple short read, although it took me longer because I get distracted easily and have to reread things sometimes. It is a great feelgood story to read any time of the year. I liked that I learned a little bit about a piece of US History. I enjoyed the family dynamic and that the child learned something from the pony express rider. I absolutely teared up at the end.

Yes.....I know it's after Christmas. But this is a book my younger sister asked me to read because she had read it, and I am *so* glad I found the time to!

This was a sweet tale about a young family. A young wife, who needs to learn contentment, and how to support her husband. A father, who's a dreamer, a story teller, and tries his best, but doesn't often succeed. A young boy, who's ashamed of his father and ashamed that he feels that way. A couple of thieving boys, who are searching for something they don't have, and a young man who's riding on the pony express and trying his best to get to the next stop along the way.

This was a precious story of love, learning, and faith. The author draws you into the tale to share a blessed experience with you. With a setting of Christmas Eve, the father learns that he needs to put aside his dreams and live in the real life -- because you could get hurt. The mother learns that all might not be as it seems with her husband, and much of her discontent is caused by her own selfish wants and desires. The boy learns that the father he is ashamed of gave someone else the greatest gift of all, and the pony express rider learns to think of others before himself.

I most loved this little gem because it brought to light so many ways the we ourselves cause life to be unbearable, and often just changing our thinking, and focusing on Christ instead of "I" causes us to have a much more cheerful attitude. There was definitely a strong sense of Christ woven throughout the tapestry of these pages and it was wonderful to read.

There was absolutely nothing objectionable in this book, and it was definitely suitable for all ages. I think it would make a great read-aloud one of these cold evenings, and if the book was passed from person to person, it would easily be finished in a night.

I definitely recommend this book, to everyone, Christmas season or not!

An ok Short Christmas read. Not really my kind of story, but then again, I'm not much of a short story kind of person, but there were some good quotes that I liked:-
"All a person needs, is faith in the good Lord."
"God put a place in your soul that will always feel empty until you let him in."

This little story was a pleasant surprise. I picked it up on a whim at the library having never heard of this author, but I'll be looking for more of his stories. I love the descriptions of the Western landscape as well as the stories pace and morals.
