Things can change in the spur of the moment.

I'm qualified for the Professional Bull Rider's top series, even if a few people don't like it. Sadly, being a woman is going to make this harder than I expected. I've got three men on my side - or so I thought.

Until we get to Cheyenne.

The land of love, loss, victory, and pain - immortalized in country music for generations - is everything the songs promised. I thought I had this. Now, I'm not so sure. When the rules to the game change, how am I supposed to fight back?

Those who know me will stand with me. The rest are trying to get me out of the way, but I'm here to cowgirl up, make my daddy proud, and take care of the ones who'll do the same for me. I just have to prove I have what it takes.

So it's time to figure out what really matters to me. Is it the love of these men? Is it pride? Is it the check I get for riding in the toughest sport on dirt?

Because not even I am invincible, and things always crash and burn in this town.

Triggers include: Slight bullying and hazing of the main character, violence against women.

Spur It On is a 140,000 word novel where the relationships are fluid and relationships are often complicated.

Life (and love) are messy, but it's worth it to get to the end.

The good
+ J.D. taking great care of everyone
+ Cody's dad
+ Cody refusing anything that might turn her into a sex symbol instead of a bullrider
+ Max
+ Tanner and J.D. being really open with each other

The neutral
o There was an infinite cycle of Cody saying she could and she couldn't and she could and she couldn't. At some point it felt like she had made the same statement about fighting for her right to be a professional bullrider five times, and it had lost its impact

The bad
- Ty
- Ty's treatment of Cody. It was blatantly misogynistic. "Ugh, she had to be PMSing or something."
- Ty's behavior after
- Ty's view on polyamory. "Poly, she'd said. Yeah, but polyamory meant we all got to sleep around, and I was damned sure Cody wouldn't be ok with me finding another date." Why the hell would he think polyamory is synonymous with having an open relationship?
- Ty calling men who bottom "the bitch". Wtf? Why did nobody call him out on that?
- Ty's reaction to Cody saying no to sex. He threw a tantrum and was later appeased when he found out Cody hadn't said no, but wanted to clarify something before they started. That should have been completely irrelevant. Anyone throwing a tantrum because someone doesn't grant or revokes consent is an asshole. Nobody should ever feel like they owe someone sex
- The insufficient content warnings. The warnings given were: Slight bullying and hazing of the main character, violence against women. I wouldn't classify as 'slight bullying and hazing'. I also think this book deserves content warnings for queerphobia and misogyny
- Anthony shared medical details on two of his patients. I don't care if his patients were assholes, sharing confidential medical information is a gross violation and Anthony should be fired

I really wanted to like this. However, I had some real issues with the queerphobia in the End of Days series, and I'm afraid the same seems to be happening here. I'm invested in the story and I'll read the next book in the series, but it'll be my last attempt. If the unapologetic queerphobia doesn't cease, that'll unfortunately be it for me with this author.

What an incredible journey! Kitty Cox takes you on a wild ride , the PBR! Being a fan of rodeos, I was captivated by the fact that a female rode bulls! Which seemed to be a difficult task fitting in. The details of the bull ride was brilliantly written! You could feel the excitement! Add in three hunky cowboys, a boyfriend, mentor and protector and some spice, made for an awesome read! Looking forward for the next one!

Another fantastic book

I loved the first book in this series and have to say I loved this even more.

We got to see the relationships grow between Cody and all. Cody is such an amazing character and I am loving watching her grow.

The bull riding was amazingly written and I could see it when I read it.

There were twists and turns I didn’t expect and I can’t wait for the next book!

Finished it all in one sitting because I practically inhaled it. Gosh, I’m kind of in love with all these guys and their admitted fumbling idiocy when it comes to girls in general, but especially Cody. The way their general arrogance/cockiness crawls up inside their bodies when dealing with how they want to pursue her is so damn refreshing. I love how steadfast Tanner is with Cody, but how he’s kinda bumbling his way through with J.D. Then, J.D. is already ass over spurs gone for Cody and they’ve only kissed. I can’t wait to watch their feelings explode on the page because you can just feel it coming and I know it’s going to rock my socks. He’s all heart, and damn do I want him to get everything he wants. Ty, I just want to thump his forehead. He’s classic communication without comprehension, rinse and repeat. Fucking adorable knucklehead, I expect groveling and him seeing the error of his ways. Or he’ll probably double-down on his opinion when he learns she got beat up. Then Cody, sigh. I’m ready for her to really take what she wants and eff some stuff up. I want her to learn the lesson I’m still working on myself— having/getting help doesn’t mean you’re helpless or weak. Sometimes it’s stronger to recognize when you can accept the aid from the people in your corner. Or smarter, at least.

I love the authenticity she brings to her writing in all aspects of this book—the PBR, the complexity of real people making real mistakes while trying to navigate a new and complex relationship, the grind of the cowboy/girl life, and the absolute suckiness that breathes in this world. Some people are shit humans, but then the good ones show up and make you remember why you keep trying to be the good one, too. (Here’s looking at Doc, Anthony, and Max. I fucking adore them and their easy acceptance and friendship.) I’m sad I inhaled this story so quickly because the wait for the next is going to hurt, but it’s just so easy to get swept up in their story. I can’t wait for more.

There’s nothing else like this series out there.

A great continuation of what’s become another favourite from Kitty Cox! I’m loving the different Characters, the individual story line and the way the story keeps me guessing.

The first book certainly pulled me in, and this was a fun and fast paced way to keep the story going. The different perspectives from the characters keeps you engaged with what the individuals in each scenario are thinking and feeling, so that even when you kinda want to give somebody a slap for being a stupid ass, you can completely understand why they did what they did, and how they ended up there.

I love the variety of the guys in this, JD is that big tough guy who is a bit of a hothead when it comes to defending those he cares about, TY has a terrible habit of acting for others defence instead of with them, all with the best intentions in mind but still getting himself into trouble with it, and Tanner is the one people tend to overlook as sweet and unassuming, but actually I think he’s scariest when provoked. I mean, c’mon folks, the guy pushes bulls around for a living! Together they make a great trio! And with Cody in the mix, there is a wonderful variety of personalities that you just know are going to clash as much as they blend, but I’m certainly routing for them all to get the ending they deserve!

The variety of themes within the story is something that I adore about the Author, even though it’s easy to slide into the story and get into the mindset of the characters, there are multiple deep themes winding throughout, societal issues being challenged and questions in brilliant ways.

I really enjoyed spending some more time with Characters I’m loving getting to know, and seeing different types of relationships changing, growing and blending, and I can’t wait for the next instalment!

First finished book of 2024!

Despite instantly falling in love in book one I waited awhile to pick up book two. Well, that's not entirely true, I read 30% of it awhile ago and just finished the rest. I loooooove this series. I love Cody and JD and Tanner and... ya know I have strong feelings about others.

That being said, bull riding is not a sport I'm super into. This series is not a lazy-mans passive sports romance that sprinkles enough of the right sporty terms to make you feel like you're reading an [insert sport of choice] book. Kitty Cox does an amazing job of breaking bull riding and PBR rules down into easily digestible bites while keeping all the good humany and romancy bits. However, this book felt very heavy on details for every single ride. That got really tiresome and I'd skip paragraphs at a time. That maybe isn't a problem for someone who really loves the sport. Now, I'm not saying this is bad writing or anything, it's just not something that I personally thought was necessary for my enjoyment of the story and actually caused it to drag some for me. Again, maybe because I'm not into this sport 🤷🏻‍♀️

Gaw I can't wait for book three. I have to see if a certain someone pulls their head from their a**. I hope so. Like Cody I can see the good in there and I hope he's able to shake off the dumba** that is clogging his throat for her.

I'm also crossing my fingers that Cody and another cowboy get a little more spicy.

And am I the only one that sees some potential for another love interest in a secondary character...

I've got lots of hopes hanging on book 3 🤣

I never knew I wanted a cowboy in my life until this series

I've been a big fan of Kitty for a few years now, and that's the reason why I decided to give this series a chance. Cowboys have never been my thing and I don't know jack about bull riding. This series has definitely changed my mind!

Cody is everything I love in a FMC; stubborn, smart, and unwilling to take anyone's shit. A lot of fmc's these days are written as highly feminine women just waiting for a man to spark a change. Cody isn't like that. She knows what she wants and she's willing to fight for it, and she doesn't care if the men are with her or not. She keeps going after the sad events in this book and it's something really admirable to see.

Tanner, J.D., and Ty are all unique characters with their own strengths and flaws. It's always refreshing to read a book where the men aren't cookie-cutter stereotypes. Each one has their own story and that shows in the choices they make throughout the book and how they handle their problems.

I can't wait to see where this goes and how the characters will continue to grow.

This was one of those books where I didn't even notice I was already so many hours into it, the time just absolutely flew by.

Generally, I really loved the book and I loved that the relationship is a bit more fluid than the typical series, so it actually feels like something is one the line when one of the MMCs royally fucks up.

That being said, I think the book does also slightly suffer from being a "middle book" and it felt like timeline wise we should have progressed further than a week?

Both of these things don't really bother me though and the general feel of the series, quality of character development etc by far makes up for it. I'm so extremely looking forward to the next book!

Spinning

This book had me spinning! I absolutely fell harder during this installment seeing the characters come into their own. J.D. finally getting what he wants/needs in life not just in his career was beautiful. Tanner feeling like he finally earned the girl and gets the guy was a triumph. Cody had it rough this time around but when she gets thrown in the dirt she's strong enough to get up dust herself off and keep going. Ty get knocked down so he could grow, he screwed up on so many levels the man has to work on himself before he's going to be a positive part of Cody's life. I can not get enough of these characters!! I want to crawl into this world and never leave. Is it to soon to want to the next book?

Wow

I felt like I could smell the dirt, feel the whiplash, hear the crowd, I felt like I was right there with each of the character point of views. I was just as angry when I read how she was being pushed out of the lead by rotten scores. I felt all their anger, and I wanted to rage back like Ty, but seriously Ty screwed up. I can see both points of view but either way, it was a turbulent book. They got to know each other, Tanner became a bigger character. There was definetly MM action where the female lead character wasn’t in the picture. It wasn’t my cup of tea but it does build up their characters in a way that makes the reader understand those two better. I really enjoyed this book.

Cowboy up!

Book 2 hits right off from book 1, love that we get straight to the story and not spend 4 chapters recapping the last book.
Cody and her guys work on their relationship but Ty seems to feel left out so pushes too hard. This book is focused around one week and Cody's best rides to date, would love to have a few more events added to the next book!
I love how in-depth Kitty Cox writes about bull riding, the rodeo circuit and the struggles women face in a man's environment! Giddy-up I need book 3!

The expected sexism really comes into play in this book. Both with a character that doesn't realize how toxic male they are being, and with the sport really starting to show how scared men are of women in it.

Cody continues to show that she can be kind, compassionate, but not take your shit. She takes a stand, instead of just caving into what one of her partners is wanting.

We are starting to see more of some secondary characters, which has me wondering if they are more important to the plot as a whole.

Good but hard read

Angst. Tears. Strife. Heartbreak. This is a hard book to read and you won't get through it unscathed. Don't expect roses and a happy ending... But it ain't over yet. I still have faith that Kitty Cox will help Cody, Ty, Tanner and J.D. rise to the occasion. I wish I was reading Book 3 right now, but other than that I have no complaints about this well-written novel. Five heart-felt stars.

Love this author

I've read every book she's put out and loved them all. Love the mix of humor and drama. I will read anything she writes, under her own name or with Auryn under Cerise Cole. My only complaint is that even after reading an entire series at a time they still end too soon. They are that good! I can't wait for the next one. I wish she could write as fast as I can read lol.

Spur it On, the second book of the Falling for the Bull Riders series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Excellent relationship progression. While I love the characters, I found myself really enjoying the PBR storyline the most. Cox is such an imaginative writer. The underlying threads of tolerance, and female empowerment carry over in many of the books I've been reading lately. It's great to see authors addressing real issues.

These hot dummies. Not a one good at emotions. Feelings? What are those? Let me just blow up my life the moment I make a mistake. Just explode all over everybody.
I am not sure that firming multiple relationships while also trying to break into a make dominated sport is the best plan. But Cody’s tough. She’s so tough. She keeps telling everybody she’s tough.
I am drinking this story down but it’s real messy. It’s not gonna work for everyone.

Good story, a little repetitive

I always like Kitty Cox and female bull riding is a unique subject. My only complaint is the repetitiveness of some of the dialogue. We can get the character flaws of the MC'S without reading the same argument chapter after chapter. This is a good story and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

I loved this book, but it feels like it’s not quite as good as the first one. That it ends on a cliffhanger and I have to wait who knows how long to read the next book, may have something to do with that. Overall it’s a really good story, I like the setting and the characters are really interesting. I so hope Ty gets his shit together…

So Amazing

This next book was equally as amazing as the first! I’m just so impressed with the detail and level of commitment to research regarding the content. The relationships we see grow in this one are so believable. I can’t wait for the next one. I’m sure hoping a certain someone can find his way back.

Very repetitive and whiney. I don't know what happened to the strong female who started the first book, she was completely lost in this book. Ty is just a jerk and I hope he doesn't find his way back into the Poly relationship. I hope she finds her way back into a powerful woman in the next book. All this whining was just plain annoying.

Bull riders extraordinaire

My favorite bull riding story ever! Heck the mechanical bull riding scene was gold! The bigotry, sexism in the league saddens me. I have so much to flipping say but it’s all spoilery lol.
