Kasey and Deke make a pretty good living as private detectives, even for a werewolf and a vampire. They know they have trouble when a tall blonde shows up, asking them to keep tabs on her cheating husband. Kasey knows the woman is lying, but they have no idea what they're getting themselves into.
When the cheating hubby turns out to be a genetic mutant with some unusual talents, it will take all of Kasey's wit and skill, and all of Deke's strength to keep them alive and keep the danger under wraps. Can Deke and Kasey save the day and finally get some time to themselves

As hot and funny as ‘An Itch to Scratch’, this second story about Deke, the werewolf, and Kasey, his vampire lover and business partner, adds a gruesome mystery element to the proceedings. This means that much to my joy I got to watch the two PIs work on a case together. The same case I believe that was mentioned at the end of ‘An Itch to Scratch’. This volume may be number one in the ‘Bloodrose’ series, but in terms of the events it happens after ‘An Itch to Scratch’ which was all about Deke and Kasey meeting in Club Bloodrose. Rereading all these older stories before getting to the more recently published books in the series is turning out to be great fun.
This case starts out pretty average: Deke is doing daytime surveillance while Kasey provides background information from the safety of his darkened surveillance room. Kasey knows something is up; from the first he sensed the female client was lying about part of the case. But Deke didn’t want to believe a “fellow werewolf” would break “the code” and be a scumbag, so they took the case anyway. As they get deeper into it and discover exactly what the woman was lying about, they are horrified by what they find. The client’s father has been conducting genetic experiments that have created an out-of-control monster – and now needs Deke and Kasey to save his hide.
With typical Deke and Kasey bravado, hilarity, and constant focus on their love life, the two men work together to prevent some really bad things from happening. Each new revelation causes them to charge their client a higher fee, to the point where they can upgrade their old-fashioned phone communications to a satellite system. Little hints like that interwoven with some seriously gory details about the case made for an entertaining read with a supernatural touch. I loved every minute of it.
If you like mysteries of the slightly gory and definitely paranormal kind, if two men who work almost as hard as they play strike your fancy, and if you’re looking for a read that is as suspenseful and funny as it is hot, then you will probably like this short story.

Another winner with Deke and Kasey. 3.5 stars. Now a couple in business as well as life, they have taken on a case that Kasey has not liked from the start. He knew the client was lying and it went from bad to worse pretty quickly. Reluctantly, Kasey agrees to continue - at a much higher rate - because Deke feels like he needs to support a fellow werewolf. Turns out there the lying and the deceit and more importantly, the danger, is a lot worse than either of them thought. They persevere and have each other's back, but there is still a heavy price that is paid. Luckily at the end of a difficult case, Deke and Kasey still have each other and Bloodrose :)
Deke is a werewolf, Kasey a vampire. They are PIs and lovers. It's not the first time I read about a pair of werewolf and vampire, but it's the first time that the two breeds seem to cohabitate without problem. Kasey is the mind and Deke the arm. Not that Deke isn't bright, but he is more feral, more instinct, and instead Kasey is cool and calculator: everything can be done at the right price...
They are engaged by a beautiful tall blonde werewolf woman to follow her husband, but soon they discover that Jason, the cheating husband, is not her husband, but a genetic experiment of her father gone mad. Jason has no control, and if they don't stop him, he could spread the virus around.
Unfortunately this is a short story, less than 30 pages, but if only in few pages, the plot is complete and enthralling. I think Deke and Kasey could be worthy material for another book, and maybe also one in which we can read how they meet and became a couple (apparently Deke was a willing donor and Kasey won him on an auction... just let me image that man naked on display...)
Anyway if you like a bit of action and a bit of eroticism (there are one or two scene pretty sexy), The Werewolf Code is a fast and enjoyable reading.
The 2nd book in the series. I highly recommend reading the first one. In fact, the whole series is proving to be well worth it and there are 8 total books (mostly short stories) out right now.
This series leads into the Cereus series, a series of 4 novels made up of shorts by Julia Talbot, Sean Michael and BA Tortuga - all 3 are writing about another resort owned by Jonny, the owner of Bloodrose.
Too much fun! I love reading these books and now they are all going right back on my to-be-read-again shelf!!
Deke is a werewolf and his lover Kasey is a vampire. Together, they run a PI company. The case they take on, checking to see if a blonde weres husband is cheating on her, turns out to be completely different, a case of genetic mutation. Doc and his daughter Lauren are just jerks, selfish and out for themselves. I felt sorry for Jason, regardless of what he did. And Deke and Kasey, just loved them. Hot, hot couple.
Honestly I probably wouldn't have bought this one if I hadn't gotten it at the same time as "An Itch to Scratch". Sometimes it pays to buy a whole series at once, sometimes it doesn't. This one was only 29 pages in pdf format, barely an epilogue to the last story. The intrigue of the new relationship was gone, and nothing really came in to take it's place. I'd say "skip it".
