Ancient legends and secrets threaten the Grand Dames of Luckland Pippa loves her simple life in her cozy town of Luckland, but after her sister holds a yard sale, Pippa's life begins to unravel, starting with six missing shoeboxes, the arrival of two very odd visitors, blackmail, and revealed secrets-including a Vegas bag of millions. If that isn't enough, Devon-Pippa's not-so-friendly friend from childhood-returns home.
A lifelong teller of tales, MJ Miller grew up inspired and mentored by an entertaining collection of master storytelling matriarchs. Women who could spin a yarn better than anyone. A native New Yorker and mother of two amazing women, MJ and her fabulously supportive husband share their Tucson home with their resident feline geniuses, Darwin and Miss Chloe. A hopeless romantic, MJ loves to tell tales filled with romance, mystery and mayhem that keep the reader turning pages long into the night.
I received an ARC of this book, and this review is my own opinion. If you are expecting a book that is part cozy, part romance, a grand crime, and full of lots of personality-- this is it. Pippa, the narrator is perfect at having the right questions at the exact time they should be asked, and she is great at denying her feelings for the man that just came back to town and into her life. The underlying plot concerns her mother and several other ladies of the same age who had a bit too much fun in Las Vegas about 30 years ago. The evidence from it is stolen from the crooks by Pippa. For much of the book she doesn't know what the "ladies of a certain age" really did. Everything in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas.... Well-written and fun, and full of personality, this is a worthy read. My only complaint is that I'm older than these ladies and do not consider them over the hill........ they are more likely to steal a motorcycle and race up the hill.
this was a strong opening chapter to the Luckland Mystery series, it had that cozy mystery elements that I was hoping for and enjoyed from this type of book. It was a unique concept and worked with the world that was going on. The characters had that element that I was looking for and enjoyed from this type of book. M.J. Miller wrote this well and left me wanting more.

This is book 1 of Luckland Mystery series. This book was not what I expected. I felt like I was learning things about my grandmother I didn't want to now lol. But it had a great mystery and secrets. I cannot wait until the next one.

I received this book as a freebie in return for an honest review. I really enjoyed this book, a whodunnit but without the usual gore. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Can't wait to read future stories.
