Heather What to Expect when the Omega is Expecting warned me about a lot of things when it comes to pregnancy without an alpha around. Never did it mention that I would develop romantic feelings for my balled fist. I need a knot. Or a growl. Hell, I’d do with a purr. So I call the omega distress line, shamelessly taking from the alpha operator what I need. There is some panting involved. Maybe a little yelp. Before I know it, the operator is banging on my door for a wellness check. Oops.
Davin As a kinash working the distress line, I purred for many omegas. Never before did I accidentally get one off, only for her to scream and hang up. Concerned, I rush to her den to make sure she’s alright. She’s not. Because she has a dire case of waddling around in compression socks. She wants me to be her surrogate, which offers me half work at full pay. All I have to do is stick around until the youngling comes, and not do anything stupid. Like fall in love with a family.
Purr for Purchase is book three in the Alphas of Nasila series, bringing you a nestful of sweet with all the heat. Each book can be read as a standalone, and features big, scaled aliens with knot-so-human anatomy.
A pregnant human omega, and an alien alpha with an exceptional purr.
✔️Found family ✔️Fun alien anatomy ✔️A male attending birthing classes ✔️Purring, growling, knotting ✔️Pregnancy sex ✔️Hea
I don't know if it was the pacing, or the big drama and backstory with the hero, but it lacked that depth of character that I love. However, I shouldn't be so picky with a book that has basically human/alien erotica with a side story!
Really wish they'd chosen to be honest with grandpa at the end. That was a terrible decision.
I know I haven't been writing many reviews lately, but this book was too awesome not to.
Is it just me or does this series just keep getting better and better?!
Well it was Davin, the commitment-phobe playboy's turn, to find his irresistible human mate. One who is already very, very pregnant. So go enjoy all the quirky, funny yet very sexy and sweet hijinx.
You're Welcome!
(P.S. V.K. upped her weird alien peen game in this one, since Davin is a hybrid. You gotta read to find out what he's packin')
This is such a great series and I love how each premise has been different. The series is character-focused, funny, steamy, and does have some angst. I thought this one felt a little less angsty because it was clear to me from early on what the conflict would be so I never felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, I knew it was going to drop lol.
In this book, Davin (H) is an officer, and Rhen from book 1's partner, who has to man the omega distress line. He receives a call from Heather (h) asking him to purr and growl. They both get a bit excited and then Heather gets embarrassed. She's at an omega center and pregnant, but the alpha who did the deed wants nothing to do with her or the baby. Heather has Yada (the beta from book 1) as an attendant and even as wonderful as he is, they've been searching for an alpha to be a support during the rest of her pregnancy to avoid complications. After another try to the omega distress line, Davin and Heather meet face to face and he ends up agreeing to be her support alpha, despite having some commitment issues and knowing nothing about pregnant omegas or babies. Awesome setup and the book lives up to all the humor, feels, and omegaversey elements that it promises. Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama (h does get jealous at one point involving H and being a support alpha) and neither are virgins (the H was a very popular support alpha and he did it frequently and this was mentioned several times throughout. I wish his popularity and frequency had been thought about a bit less).
I liked both Heather and Davin as main characters. Davin has baggage and is afraid of a mate bond because of how it affected his own parents. Heather isn't pushy or demanding, even as these two get more serious, but Davin is self-sabotaging. Not much info was given on Heather's background except that she's human and she has an editing job. Davin is a hybrid and comes equipped with some different features, like a special purr, a bit of extra down below, and something that ended up being adorable and hilarious that I won't spoil. These two had a lot of chemistry and mostly were very easy with each other. They were also plenty hot between the sheets, like the other books there's knotting, fluids, purrs, growls, urges to bite, territorialness, and nesting instincts.
I enjoyed all the pregnancy elements and the parenting of a newborn. This is not the book if you don't like reading about pregnancy and babies. Davin bonded so sweetly with Heather's baby even before he was born, it was so cute. Both Heather and Davin are supported by their friends during this time, who talk some sense in them when needed. Heather has Yada and Davin has Rhen. I loved seeing bits of Rhen, Elli, and Yada (man I want his book so bad and I think it's next). Davin's father isn't a support, but he is important to Davin's character's background and development.
When the conflict hit, I was sad but understood. I liked the resolution with both a nod to how they began and discussion of how they were going to move forward, including a mention of therapy, which is always a bonus to me. The epilogue was really sweet and left me satisfied with their HEA and little family.
I love watching a fictional man with commitment issues be in denial about how attached he is, and boy, did this book ever deliver that tenfold.
MAIN CHARACTER NAMES AND AGES Heather (28) | Davin (32)
SUMMARY Davin is an alpha with commitment-issues. One day while he’s working the emergency line, he answers it to an omega in need on the other end. Reluctantly, he purrs to calm the stressed omega down and then growls per request.
Heather is a mateless, heavily pregnant omega. When calls the distress line looking for relief, she never expected to enter a contract with an alpha. Davin agrees to see Heather through to the end of her pregnancy, for her and the unborn child’s health only.
After the contract is through, Davin is going to walk away. Surely, he’s not going to fall in love with Heather, and under no circumstance will he imprint on the child (effectively making it his own). Surely.
REVIEW I was reluctant to start Purr for Purchase because a romance that prominently features pregnancy is not what I usually gravitate toward. That being said, this book seriously made me reevaluate my biases.
Davin’s budding relationship with Heather and her unborn son was so fun to read about. His “fighting” with a fetus was hilarious. Then he started molting (neon pink feathers, at that!), and I remembered just how much I love this series.
Things were going a little too good at the 50% mark, so once Kalir was born, I knew we were in for some angst. I was really worried that Davin was going to implode his relationship with Heather by doing something irredeemable, but his self-sabotage was foreshadowed the moment his character was introduced. His pushing Heather away because he didn’t want to lose her one day was understandable, given his life story.
V.K. Ludwig has created an approachable and immersive universe that I never want to leave. I do hope to see Yada get his HEA; that beta deserves some serious love! While I’m sad to see that this is the last book in the series (…for now?), I am grateful it’s introduced me to an author whose backlog I will be devouring.
POV dual / first person SPICE LEVEL 5 / 5 RATING 4.5 / 5
I was so excited to get back into this world that as soon as I saw the book was out ( Thanks RL ) I dove right in.
The story started off great and kept me entertained the whole way through. Personally I think I didn’t enjoy it as much as I could’ve because I wasn’t a big fan of how things played out. This story felt like it focused a lot more on the H and his baggage and the h seemed to be in the background especially because she was so easy-going/passive.
Now this is where it boils down to personal preference and might get a little spoiler-heavy while I complain. The pacing felt really off and I didn’t feel the chemistry between the couple. Now, it’s very possible that I missed the chemistry because I was very focused on the H’s feelings. He DID NOT want a mate, commitment and he absolutely DID NOT want to imprint on the baby. I understand he didn’t want these things because of his baggage and abandonment issues are very complex but his mind was rejecting everything that his natural instincts were doing. It didn’t feel like any bond he formed was intentional so the whole time I was waiting for his mind to see how nice things felt as a family. And I guess he does see it eventually, i just prefer things to happen gradually then all at once.
The book mentions home cooked meals and playing games together, watching movies. I think if we had gotten some of that on-page I think I would’ve felt more between the couple.
The H was no thoughts about staying with the h/baby until he’s saying goodbye, leaves then comes back and wants to give it a try. Sure, he stayed a day longer than his contract entailed but we weren’t in his POV and he literally leaves the room before changing his mind so, 🤷🏻♀️
I wanted the H’s mind to line up with what his body was having him do. He became possessive and fell in love with the baby and to me, it really felt like the h was just what he was getting alongside the baby if he wanted to keep being the dad. Yes, the h continues to let the H see the baby even after they break up and he mentions he misses her and stuff but I don’t like being told, I want to feel it- and I did not feel it here. My personal feelings really got in the way of my enjoyment in this book.
I really liked the interaction at the birthing class, it was silly. And I really liked how the H cared for the baby, how he came to see it as his own son, everything involving the two were pretty adorable. I enjoyed seeing the couple from the first book and it was nice to see how excited the H from the first book is about his upcoming baby. I LOVED seeing Yada again. Tho I hope in his book he gets an h who sees how great he is from the beginning but unfortunately I think he’s just gonna end up with who he’s been pining for. 😵💫
The H doesn’t deactivate his profile and the h sees him getting alerts cos ya’know he’s so popular with the ladies and he’s got a lot of experience 🙄 I really didn’t like how this part was handled. The h sees it, doesn’t ask about it, they get intimate then she sees it again but still doesn’t say anything. It’s obv that the H isn’t cheating, realistically he doesn’t even have the time but it bothered me how long it dragged on for until it came to a head. I hated how the H didn’t understand why it was a big deal.
The H spirals after seeing his dad who suffers from depression after his mate died. I’m guessing the lack of sleep and fatigue exasperated his spiraling but it was bad.
The h ends up in the hospital, the H is still spiraling and it only gets worse because it triggers more shit. The H wants to break up but doesn’t want to be the one who actually does it so the h basically allows him to leave the relationship. Apparently they are broken up for a week and the H goes to dinner with friends by himself and he sort of talks about what happened which makes him realize he’s an idiot and he actually wants to be with the h.
He goes to her, apologizes and convinces her to take him back by initiating intimacy. I wanted a little groveling, I wanted to FEEL like he missed the hell out of being with the h but I just didn’t 🤷🏻♀️. The H said he would do therapy and I’m so glad that the author included this because I strongly believe it’s super important to get your shit in check before you raise a baby and unintentionally pass on your shit onto them, even without babies therapy is important if you’re struggling with things, take care of yourself people. ❤️
She obv takes him back, they mate and then we get the last chapter which was my favorite. The H is a wonderful dad, he really loves the baby and sees it as his own, it’s adorable. The couple from the first book makes another appearance and so does grandpa, who seems to be doing a little better no doubt with the help of the lil youngling. 🥺
And that’s it folks, this review is probably a mess because it kept bringing me down the more I remembered the parts that annoyed me and my mind is usually all over the place anyways so congratulations if you manage to read the whole thing.
There’s no cheating/no sharing. I could’ve gone with less mentions about how good and how often the H is at servicing omegas.
Is the alpha/omega a kink thing? I can understand referring to each other like that while the contract is on-going but not using names/endearments during intimacy after the contract was over made me feel detached from them actually having feelings for each other. ( tho the first book was also like this, can’t remember about the second ) maybe this is just a kink book and I shouldn’t be looking for feelings in here anyways 😵💫
My rating of this book was heavily influenced by my personal feelings. Mental illness is a heavy topic for me. I’ll continue with the series since I really want to see Yada get a HAE ( in his book having someone be like “yes, beta” is not gonna have the same effect as “alpha” 😂
ANYWAYS. Go read RLbook’s review if you want a different perspective, her reviews are great. 😊

I really do enjoy these books. They are entertaining, quick reads that hit all the essentials to make a good omegaverse story. The pacing was hard to get behind in this one though. Add the fact that they didn’t focus as much on Davin and Heather as a couple but more on the baby, and it was hard to feel anything for them. Especially when it comes to shorter books, I’d really like it to be more focused on them developing together. Still really enjoyed it but I just couldn’t be as invested as I wanted to be. I also think there could have been more grovelling involved but that’s just me.
I never seek out pregnancy romances, and this one had a lot of pregnancy/baby care, but gosh it ended up being so cute, steamy and emotional!
Heather is a single omega who needs an alpha to get through her pregnancy, Davin is a confirmed bachelor who agrees to be her alpha surrogate (he thinks it’ll be an easy job), and the way they became a little family gave me serious heart eyes. 🥹😍
I loved how Davin formed strong bonds with both Heather AND their ‘youngling’, so it didn’t feel like accepting one to be with the other. Their journey and conflicts also felt weirdly realistic, which gave this scifi omegaverse book way more depth than I expected.
Wow! This is my favorite book in the series so far. The relationship between both MCs and how they manage it with a child in the picture was managed very well. Really good dynamic in general between both characters, LOVED IT ❤️
Listen, this series is the only exception to my strict rule to leave the omegaverse trope back in 2014 Wattpad where it belongs. I think because it still has the sci-fi element to it. Either way, I enjoyed this series a lot.
Major takeaways here: I didn’t mind the pregnancy thing as much as I thought I would, the author actually made it work well. The characters had some great developments. Only 4 stars because while I enjoyed it, I felt like the story was slightly rushed and the spice was NOT as spicy as the first two books. What a shame honestly. There was also one line towards the last half where he says that her fear made him want her more. Was kind of off-putting, but that was the only shady thing the author made his character think/do (just a one-off that I ignored). Anyway, still good.
Interested to see the next book, which is supposed to be about the beta Yada. Will I like it as much? Probably not. We shall see.
I thought this book was pretty cool because of the fact that the FMC is pregnant. It was an easy read and I finished it in less than a day. I agree with some other reviewers that there was a lack of character depth. But, that’s also not why I chose to read an alien smut book 🤷🏻♀️
Commitment issues + pregnancy, what could go wrong?
Poor Heather is just the most effed over woman, with a surprise pregnancy and a father that doesn’t want to be involved. Of course, because this is omegaverse, she has.. ahem… needs that aren’t being fulfilled. Davin is a train wreck. A self centered man with caregiver burn out who doesn’t read a contract before he signs it. I think his story line had potential, but I was not impressed with his grovel. At. All. Parts of the book read like an emotional abvse plot line, but he did have some redeeming qualities. His unacceptable behaviors weren’t intentional, but that doesn’t change the impact. So… I ended up with mixed feelings and stuck with a 3 star rating.
Spice: 5/5 (meaning at least 50% of book is spicy)
Guys, READ THIS BOOK. Finally a romance that includes pregnancy that actually mentions the real aspects of pregnancy!!!!! Like all her books, it was so well written (miles above what you typically see on KU). The spice levels were perfectly balanced, the grovel was satisfying, the MCs were a perfect fit for each other and had so much chemistry, and the plot was perfectly paced. This series isn't as angsty as her Garrison Earth or Ash Planet Warriors series, but a bit more serious than her Vandalar Concubines. I love all her books, but this series has been my fav so far. My ONLY complaint was that it wasn't 10 times as long because I finished it in one night. I'm not joking, I cancelled plans....
I’m a real sucker for men stepping up and claiming a kid that’s not biologically theirs. Plus their relationship starts with her calling the Omega crisis hotline and he purrs her into climax.
Plop an omegaverse on top of it with all the scenting and nesting tropes you can manage and it was a great time!
.. and why not finish the trilogy off by reading the third book as well? in addition to being smutty as fuck, the alien in question not only had dick-tentacles but also neon pink back feathers! people are so creative!
wait but in all seriousness outside of the sex this book was kind of cute :,) shes a single pregnant mother and he is just helping her out at first, but then they start falling for each other. he's scared of commitment though (because he's scared that everyone will leave him at the end) and she feels like no one will settle with her because of her situation. i quite enjoyed.
I ❤️ this series so hard! Slick, knotting, purring, nesting, all the alpha, beta, omega moments! This series is great!! Alien alphas totally support the omegas on this planet. Rescue Alphas, Support Alphas, Healer Betas! It’s great. In this book a pregnant human omega needs help because she is in distress. And the laughs and heat go from there. This was also another emotional book, dealing with parental loss and abandonment issues. But the 🔥🔥🔥🔥! It was on point.
Okay but I wasn't expecting this one to make me cry 😢
There were a lot of ups and downs here but I ended up really enjoying Heather and Davin's story. These two definitely put me through an emotional rollercoaster though.
✅ Pregnant FMC determined to be an amazing mom ✅ Surrogate MMC with a ton of emotional baggage ✅ Lots of cute domestic family moments ✅ Lots of denying his own feelings and general self-sabotage
But we love a man of any species that realizes he needs therapy and then commits to getting better 🤌🏻
What I liked about this book was that I feel like where most romances would’ve ended with the baby being born, Alpha imprints and everyone lives happily ever after, this book goes past that and it isn’t an easy HEA, it’s complicated. Davin has baggage and commitment issues, Heathers just trying to get through being a new mom. It’s kind of messy but I felt like that gave it some depth and made it more than just another smutty alien story, even though it was also very smutty. 😂 I always enjoy V.K. Ludwig’s male characters and how not perfect they are.

I adored this story between Davin and Heather. It was great seeing Davin step up and be involved with Heather through all of her pregnancy and birth prep. It was such a sweet love story as well as a story of healing. I loved that Heather knew what she wanted and was willing to wait, even if that meant a little heart break. She knew what she deserved.
I also loved seeing Yada again! I hope he gets struck by lightning and magical becomes an alpha (I know that is not how it works, but something needs to happen.) I hope his book is next!
My only criticism of this whole series is crusty sheets and nests..lol.. Can we get some laundry service??
When I started this I didn’t realize it was the third in the series. I will need to go back and read the other two because I really struggled with the world building. I wish there had been more about how she ended up there and why she was there and what the communication to earth was like as well as knowing more of her family which I don’t believe was mentioned.
This was great. Sweet. Spicy. Angsty. Grovel. Reformed manwhore. Lots of pregnancy and baby content. Dad doing dad things content. Big himbo energy! Loved it! Lots of knotting and nesting.
Not going to lie, the hea ending got me a little teary. This one was just as funny, hot, and emotional rollercoaster as the last two and I am so here for it!
