They call themselves the Honey, but there’s nothing sweet about these warriors.
Edilk As a fourth son, I knew from the time I understood words that I’d be sent away to find my own fortunes. To survive I joined a band of other banished warriors to explore and raid distant tribes—in the hope of stealing a mate. When a falling star appears over the ocean, I take it as a sign that my fate lies over the water. The people we find look nothing like us, but I want a mate and I intend to take one.
Sabine For the first time in my life, I set foot on an planet with dirt and plants and animals. While I’m excited to put my education to use and build a home, it is clear my life belongs to the colony. Then I’m captured by an alien dressed in leather and wielding a sword.
Where aliens rule the skies, and mates are captured and claimed is where Riley is happiest writing. Her heroes are powerful and her heroines are their match and their romance will ignite your imagination.
When not exploring other worlds and civilizations, Riley lives in Fremantle, Australia. One day she plans on growing up and doing something sensible with her life, but today is not that day.
This is a promising series with a TON of potential so I really really hope the author takes note: Please, for the love of god, stop with the "sassy" one-dimensional women. Punching and snarling at the giant alien men who have kidnapped you is not relatable. I get that the author is going for IPB vibes, but even the most difficult FMCs (think Liz) showed reasonable fear and caution at first. Ruby's character is honestly, almost unreadable. This kind of FMC comes across as so lazy. You can be strong AND have basic, common sense. Responding with fear, caution, crying, panic are all believable. Biting the alien's hand is not.
I'm cautiously optimistic about this series (except Ruby's book...) but the FMCs need a lot of character development besides the "sassy"
A spaceship of humans lands on what they believe is an uninhibited planet. They left Earth a generation ago to find a new home, as Earth is becoming a wasteland. The main characters from Earth are the children of the original colonists. Upon landing and getting settled, they are attacked by wildlife, but the male MCs tribe manages to rescue 4 women who were out in the open. Sabine, our female MC, Mia, Bridget, and Ruby.
The "alien" men are outcasts. The fourth sons of families. Their culture decrees fourth sons must leave the tribe never to return, unless they bring home a mate. Men outnumber women in their society and coincidentally, women outnumber men among the humans.
There is soooo much potential with this story. Unfortunately it has a lot of mistakes and misspelled words. A good editor would have caught them and tightened up the plot. I'm going to read the next book to see if it improves. 3.5 stars
I really enjoyed this story. It is that little bit different in the way it was written, but, for me, it works. Great characters, and a storyline that can be built on. Looking forward to reading more of this series.
Owned by the Outcast is the first book in the Banished Alien Warriors series. Once again, Riley has come up with an original and intriguing sci-fi romance.
Being banished is a way of life for the Honey people. If you are the fourth son born to a family, you are banished unless you find a woman. With more males than females, that is not likely to happen so you either find others like you and make a family or die. So, when they see a falling star, they follow. When they rescue women from being eaten alive, they find much more than they ever thought.
People of Earth have travelled a long way to make a new home, and women outnumber the men. Those who were born on the way are there to inhabit foreign lands where there are no other living people. Or so they thought. It turns out the aliens are much more civil than the humans who are telling lies.
There is only one way to stop the dissent and, that is to reveal there are others out there
It is a surprising series with just enough originality to make you want to keep turning the pages.
This is book one, and it’s off to a good start with the lead female human and alien Honey male. There are the Honey people on the planet and the banish every fourth male born. That male has to go out and either find a female to bring back to their tribe or stay in the wilderness alone forever. Well Ed and his fourth born brothers see a space ship in the sky and follow it. They find a new people, humans, and females who are working to start a colony. To me this book ends in a odd place because the last chapter goes to another couple and just leaves the first couple with a half happy ending for now. Read On!
What I mean by that is that you are not going to find a domineering MMC, but more so, a character who really wants a mate and is sweet like Honey, pun intended.
I personally read the title and thought this book would be a bit rougher, but it wasn't. It's not a very angst filled story, and there's nothing wrong with that. Sometimes not having such heavy drama in a book is good and allows one to simply read for the sake of reading and not wanting to think.
I really only gave it two stars just because this story really isn't anything different from most other books following this trope. There were also a few heavy typos, so that might put you off.
Either way, it was an okay story. Nothing too amazing, but a good way to pass the time in between your heavier books.
Outstanding new series by Riley Onyx will capture your heart and have you begging for more! Yes, this is a ten star read! Action from the first chapter, you are kept on an adventurous ride right till the end. When is book two due? I can’t wait! I always have a soft spot for the underdog…Edilk is the fourth son, cast out of his village with no hope of a mate or wealth. Surviving by his wits and strength he bans together with other outcasts hoping to find an elusive mate. Humans have set down on his planet with more women than men and it leads to an interesting scenario. Excellent ❤️❤️❤️
Sabine is on a colony ship from Earth that chooses the planet that Edilk lives on. Edilk is a fourth son so as per tribal law needs to fend for himself outside the tribe. He and others like him sail across an ocean to see what they can find. They come across Sabine and other colonists and save the women from a savage beast. This is a great story, showcasing how 2 people who rely on ear translators to communicate get together and find love. I can't wait to read the stories of the other fourth sons tribe.
A very quick read that follows a familiar formula, but I really like that formula so I was having fun lol
I like a more primitive people meeting a more advanced people and the adjustments made by each of them. I appreciated Sabine’s story and motivation for doing what she did. Edilk was an effective first male lead to introduce us to his people, but I’m also curious how things are going to go for him when he goes back to his tribe.
There is quite a bit of setup for the other couples done in this book, which I appreciate from a writer. The book could have been longer, I would have enjoyed more time with the main couple, but it being shorter has value as well.
Sabine is a human botanist eager to settle on a new planet and help establish an Earth Colony. She is rescued from a raging alien beast by barbarian alien warriors along with several women from her group. Their rescuers are outcasts from a tribe with too many men and not enough women. Her attraction to one of the warriors is also her way out. I found the story to be interesting but familiar. I liked her determination to make her own choices.
I liked the two characters Edilk and Sabine. I felt that some areas were underdeveloped for instance, the human colony. I mean there was some information about it. Now maybe it was mentioned about the dissidents but if I didn't they weren't mentioned until the end of the book. Hopefully, we'll learn more about the colony as the story continues. The story about the fourth son is different. They also have no technology at all. I'll continue with Book #2.
Well that just ended abruptly, I have questions about the MMCs injury, it suddenly disappeared. Why do the aliens always get the short end of the stick, the women they all end up with are always a lot of work.
Not sure about this kidnapping of women business, so when they raid they say sorry luv didn't know you were mated I will just set back down and find someone else??? How is it a woman choosing anything if she's just carted off like that.
Yeah, I sort of had hopes, although from the beginning the mmc kind of gave me the ick, but this was just not good. They knew each other for like 24 hours and that’s all we get, and we’re moving on to the next couple? Like the bones were there, it could have been unique enough in the subgenre, but the ending especially was too abrupt and there was literally zero relationship built between the two MCs.
Wow this was such a great read! Definitely a unique take on an alien romance. Sabine and her group landed on a new planet to establish a new colony. There were more women than men, so women were forced to share the men and serve as l and Edilk's people rescued them. This was such a great read, and I loved how sweet Edilk was.. I can't wait to see the other stories in this new series!
After finally having landed planet side, Sabine was out searching for new plants when she was captured by an alien male. Finding ways to communicate with each other proved to be a problem until ear interpreters were used and now getting to know about each other is fun. Can they understand each other enough to become mates or will the humans interfere?
This was very much an instalove story without the fated mates storyline that often accompanies instalove in sci fi romance. It wasn’t a bad book, but it felt rushed as far as the plot. Most of the book took place within 2 days.
Edilk and his fellow outcasts are a weird falling star and decide to risk a boat ride to the unknown land beyond the sea. They find humans being attacked by huge flightless birds and help. Then they appropriate four women.
Owned by the Alien Warrior is a decent easy read. It has the typical book one setup yada yada, but it also has a sassy confident heroine, a massive outcast warrior, action, adventure and heat. Entertaining!
Edilk and others have seen the falling star and are off to find what it is. Sabine is out with some humans who are attacked by an animal. Then the story really gets going. Enjoy
I don't read many alien books come up with the sounded good by the description. It was an OK book I didn't mind reading it but as I say I not really into alien books. Would I read more of these books perhaps.
Interesting plot, characters, and world. It could have been explained better at the beginning though. I had to slowly work out what some words and phrases meant across the book.
The relationship happened almost 180 turn but it was nice at the end. Good start.
2.5 stars rounded down. It was OK, but it ended in a HFN that wasn’t particularly satisfying. The descriptions could use a little work and there are so many missing, misplaced or extra words at times it was almost unreadable.
I really enjoyed this book and found the story very interesting and easy to understand and follow. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
This was a quick and plot filled story! I loved the fast pace but lots of details the spice was a good bonus too! I hope we see more of these characters as they navigate a totally new to them world as mates:)
I absolutely loved this book! It was amazing and I could not put it down! That meeting with the screamer had me flinching.... I can't wait to read the next book!
I have enjoyed this book. It has depth to it and the setting and characters are given good back stories that make the whole book meaning as well as setting up a series.
