The heroine:Christiana - she works nights at a New York diner, her boyfriend Greg is the chef, and he is jealous and abusive. She moved in with him and started working at the diner after her parents died three years ago and she has had more than a few black eyes since then from his tendency toward violence.
The Hero:Roman - he and his brothers are bound by magic and during the day they are stone gargoyles that sit on top of an old three-story building in New York, the city public library. The magic that binds and heals them throughout the day only appears at sunset to set them free to once again take on their human form. Though for Roman that change is becoming harder and harder. He needs to find his mate, as he is over one hundred and twenty years old and has waited nearly too long to find a mate.
The story: When Roman follows his heart one night, it leads him directly to the diner where Christiana works. He immediately knows she is his beloved and goes in and orders some steaks and sits watching her all night. She is nervous with all the attention he is paying her because she knows that her boyfriend will get angry, and when he does, Roman steps in and defends her. She feels some connection to him and when he tells her she is going home with him, she agrees.
Gargoyles are immortal at night and their mates become immortal as well, but the gargoyles are vulnerable during the day. The only way they can be killed is if they are pushed off the edge of a building while in their stone forms and broken to pieces. Someone has been killing gargoyles in the past year, first in Chicago, then in Los Angeles. Roman fears it won’t be long before whomever it is, makes it to New York and comes after him and his brothers.
The story is a short read and so the two main characters fall in love in a flash. I did like the storyline about the killings and the intimate scenes were hot and not drawn out for too long. I liked that there was story about getting to know each other. Though the book kind of ended all of the sudden with no resolution like I wanted. It wasn’t so much a cliffhanger, but more of an unfinished story in my opinion.
This is a very short novella and as such for me, it felt kind of incomplete. It’s a gargoyle shifter book, a new type of shifter for me. Roman is said shifter. For hundreds of years he and his three brothers have spent hundreds of the daylight hours in their stone gargoyle form on the upper corners of the library. But at night they “come alive”. Roman, being the oldest is desperate to find his beloved or life mate. He finally finds her, Christiana, working in a diner. There is instant chemistry between them though there is the problem of her boyfriend.
This was an ok book. There wasn’t a lot of character development because of the length. We didn’t really learn much gargoyle lore and the insta love was way to instant and for Christiana, built way to much on being rescued from a bad boyfriend and great sex.
There is also a mystery that’s only touched on, someone is killing gargoyles all over the country but I expect we’ll learn more in the next book about one of the brothers. I shouldn’t say we though as I don’t think I’ll continue on with this series.
Roman is a gargoyle who is nearing the point of needing to find his Beloved, the shift back is getting harder. Christiana is in an abusive relationship and has been for a while, one night this man turns up at her waitressing job and takes her away. Their chemistry together stopping her from second guessing herself.
A short and sweet story of finding the one you love and their acceptance of you despite the difficulties and differences. This story was a quick read but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Brings to the front the very real and rare 'when you know you know' kind of relationship some people are lucky to have.
A paranormal romance that I wish was longer. Way too short. I love a good tale though. A rare race of gargoyle shifters are in danger of being exterminated by a unknown threat. Who would harm gargoyle shifters. They don't bother humans as it is, even at night. The only thing they search for is their beloved. Their one and only forever mate. Roman is pretty sure he's found his beloved finally but can he protect her from the horror that is to come? Will Christiana accept him for who he is?
While I LOVE anything Gargoyle-related, this book was soft for my taste.
The story-line was interesting but the love interest between the two main characters could have been explored/developed more. Putting into account it reads as a short story, it was okay.
It’s a novella, I get that, but this was just awful. There’s instalove based on their connection and lust. And usually novellas work that way, so ok fine. But Christiana blows up her albeit horrible life, to go home with Roman immediately after meeting him pretty much and immediately jumps him for sex. The next day she freaks out while in a penthouse apartment with access to anything she may desire, safe from her abusive now ex-boyfriend, and she just needs to wait for her gargoyle man to become human-shaped again at nightfall. Boohoo! Poor her!🙄 She freaks out and decides to run away from Roman and his penthouse with none of her things despite the fact she couldn’t leave behind her stuff which filled two suitcases but barely fit clothes…? How small are these suitcases and what other crap did she put into them in that case? Two photo albums do not fill a suitcase. I digress. So she finds herself in pain and then uses her so far not so impressive brain to decide to talk to Roman first.🙄 There’s an attempt at a plot with someone killing gargoyles. And that’s the theme that will carry through each brother’s book (there are four brothers). But it’s ridiculous. The way this story’s plot goes… Christiana who supposedly was “taught about guns by her father before he died” is able to take two headshots exploding the heads of both bad guys, and the last one who managed to shoot her shoulder fell off the building when she shot him. Riiiiight…….🙄 Christiana who was with an abusive man for years has absolutely no problem killing these guys by shooting them in the face and making their brain matter explode everywhere…and no side effects from that either. Of course.🙄🙄 And police show up and what exactly would the security people say? She killed these men who were trying to “deface property” aka destroy gargoyle statues. I mean they can’t say they killed gargoyle murderers, that’s why they deserved to die. And why the hell would a supposedly elite team of gun-toting security have all been overpowered so easily but one woman can come in and pew pew pew, get the three bad guys.🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 but of course none of that is in the book because that would take way more thought development from an author who just wanted to write a very bad book for as little effort as possible. I do not recommend these books. Thankfully book 1 was free, so I didn’t waste a cent on it, it wouldn’t have been worth it if I had to pay a penny.
What would you do if a man with silver eyes n phantom wings entered your place of business n asked you for a date? Chrissy feels like she's known him all her life but that's impossible, right!! He's never been in the restaurant before n she already has a boyfriend. So why does her heart feel like it might explode, n the sound of his deep voice sends shivers down her spine n elsewhere? Who is he? What is he? And why does his touch, looks, n voice excite me so much? Roman is a gargoyle shifter doomed to live eternally as a gargoyle atop a library during the day n a man by night. For over a century he had hoped to find his 'beloved', the one woman fated to spend the rest of his life with, however long that will be. Lately someone has been targeting his species, killing them during the daylight hours when they are the most vulnerable in their gargoyle form by pushing their stone statues off the buildings. His transformations have become extremely painful, but instead of flying with his brothers as usual, he feels compelled to fly off in another direction. Landing in front of a restaurant, he spots a beautiful waitress n knows instantly that he's finally found his 'beloved'. Now the trick is to convince her that she should spend the rest of eternity with him. A wonderful short story to start the beginning of this series.
Well, that was quick and unsatisfying. And dammit, I so wanted to enjoy it, too. But the story and pacing were all over the place, as was the heroine — whose name is so forgettable that I had to look it up in the book's description even after I'd already finished the book.
I can overlook the instantaneous soulmate connection between Roman and Christiana, as I'm used to it from paranormal romances and contemporary instaloves. In fact, I normally enjoy that whole love-at-first-sight thing. However, that doesn't excuse the breakneck pace of the story, or the heroine flip-flopping constantly from "I'm okay with this situation" to "OMG, I'm freaking out!" and back to "I'm okay with this." It also doesn't excuse the heroine from suddenly becoming John McClane towards the end just because the situation demands it.
As for the ending, there really wasn't one. Bad guys are introduced, one of the brothers gets maimed in the process (setting up the next book), but in the end, everyone's all, "Phew, glad we're alright." Then, the book just ends, giving us a cliffhanger to lead into Rafe's story.
Bottom line: if you need a fix of stone-by-day, flesh-by-night gargoyles, I'd say skip this and just go watch Disney's Gargoyles.

This was an amazing short story and the story line was very unique. The book is very enjoyable from beginning to end and the characters were brilliantly put together. It's a shame the book wasn't a bit longer. This is the first book I've read by Amelia shaw and I must say I was very impressed.
XD
Chrissy was living in an abusive relationship, working as a waitress and taking the mental and physical abuse her boyfriend dished out. She had no illusion of ever leaving, where would she go? Then Roman a beautiful man shows up at her work. It's her Knight in Shining Armor to the rescue!
Roman is feeling the effects all Gargoyles start to experience when they are getting in age and have not found their Beloved. When is flying over the city that night, he starts to feel a pain in his heart and a pull down to a restaurant where the most beautiful human works. She is his Beloved, but will she accept him when she learns his truth?
More like 2 and a half. I understood some of the insta things i.e love, sex the first night etc but when the attackers show up it loses all credibility. Why was the guard outside her door attacked when the gargoyles were on the library roof (and the would assassins knew this). Why would a guard, supposedly well trained and well paid, toss his gun to a woman he might have seen one time instead of continuing to shoot? If he could toss the gun and call 911 he could shoot. Her coming in like one of Charlie's angels obliterating all the bad guys was ridiculous.
Other than that it was okay for a short read trying to build a relationship and suspense at the same time.

These characters are so very bland! I feel as if this book was written just to draw a paycheck and nothing more.
There is no depth, no heart pounding romance, no bells, and no whistles…just FLATNESS and Mediocrity!!
The male lead seems boring and old, while the female lead seems ditzy and utterly clueless. Even the sexual tension/talks seems off putting. YEAH, it just SUCKS!
I have read 1 chapter books before and they were 5 star worthy but this short read is just pointless…my opinion!
Fun little story with a man of stone and a girl he can never get out of her mind. I will say that there were some moments that if you are sensitive towards domestic violence implications I would keep a strong mind, it isn't that big of a scene but it is mentioned nonetheless. I will say that I was partially entertained by the out of the blue mastery in weapons (pew pew) and John Wick moment, but some people got to party that way.
I wish it was longer 😂 3.5 I wish it was longer because I would like to see Roman and Chrissy a relationship develop more than it has.i like where the story was going but it felt incomplete .and then mystery of the people trying to kill them why but I guess that's some novella for you leaving you one and more😊😏💜💙🖤. I truly enjoyed reading this book and look forward to reading the next. I recommend this read.
I have always been fascinated with gargoyles and so I clicked this link so fast. I thought the story went fast and Chrissy and Roman bonded quickly. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I needed more but the mystery of the enemy is enough to make me want to read the next book.
Love this book it was short and a fast read, but I loved every word!! Poor Rafe, I'm so glad his book is next that I'll be reading now. The cover is what got me to read it so glad I did!
Roman is a gargoyle shifter who spends his days on the roof of the library with his brothers. One day he feels the need to go to a cafe where he finds his beloved who is waitress in an abusive relationship with the chef. This is a great story with danger thrown in. One book not to be missed.
The premise of this was so promising! I mean, who doesn't want a morally grey library gargoyle?! However, this bibliophile could have done with a little more plot.
Her Knight in Shining Stone is the first short story in The Gargoyles of New York series. We meet Roman, the elder of four brothers, all gargoyles who have yet to find their mate (Beloved). He is suffering pain when he shifts, a clear sign that he needs to meet his Beloved soon or he will be stuck in his gargoyle form. He finds her working as a waitress and the connection between them is instantaneous. Whilst she feels the connection, Cristiana also has doubts over whether she can be with Roman when she won't see him at all during the day.
Being as this is a short story, it moves along at a very swift pace. I would have preferred to have it 'fleshed out' a bit more - more detail on the history of Gargoyles, the mystery surrounding the danger that is coming to them, and Cristiana's history - but that is just me. This was very well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. I have been left wanting to know more, especially about Rafe. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it as a quick read, coffee-break book.
