London is a spectacular place to visit, and there are endless things to see and do all year round.
In London, Block by Block, illustrator Cierra Block shares 50 maps showing the best places that London has to offer, whether it's the food or history, culture, shopping, beautiful buildings or gardens. Each map starts with an idea - it might be, Where are the best pancakes in London? What are the places everyone should visit in Marylebone? Or, Where in London can you lose hours browsing the shelves of a beautiful bookstore? From there, Cierra has curated a list of the best places and has painted a charming accompanying map. From best afternoon tea to most impressive views, haunted places and things to do in summer, there really is something for everyone.
This book will be an inspiration for all, whether it's your first visit to London, you're a seasoned vacationer or an all-your-life local. That's the wonderful thing about London - there's always more to explore!
The prettiest little travel book you’ll ever see. The neighborhood section is genius. No matter where you are in the city, you have a list of delightful places to visit.
The perfect, most beautifully aesthetic book for all of London's visitors and life-long residents alike. Perfect for gifting, and one I will be turning to time and time again myself for London inspiration.
What a lovely book both visually and contextually. It’s easy to peruse and has great suggestions. I find myself picking it up to touch the embossed cover and browse the colorful pictures. I would have liked a bit more information for each place and maybe a whittled down list of food suggestions. For that reason, it’s probably most helpful for a resident who has endless meals to try out recommendations.
The first half of the book is more focused on food and shopping while my favorites were the London by Interest and by Season sections which were more activity/site-seeing based. I can’t wait to buy the NYC version.
2,5 stars, but something in me doesn'twant to round up. Beautifully illustrated, yes, but I wanted more from this book (me issue). Yes, I did get some recommendations but not really for new places, just reminders of well-known museums, etc. Lots of bakery recs. Not sure how useful for a casual visitor... but worth a read/flick through. Would buy if I actually lived there and could explore at leisure. Trigger warning for FOMO, though. :)
If you love London or simply want to visit London, you will enjoy this book. It divides up the city: London by Food, London by Locals, London by Interests, and London by Season. The maps in the book are adorable works of art (not road maps). The author shares locales, addresses, descriptions, etc.
Such an aesthetic read that's so structured and truly informative to a new explorer of London. Her beautiful art makes me want to try out new places. Love how this visualises in a map for me
The only thing I wish this book had was at least one mention of Sherlock Holmes (none at all! Not even on the literary London page.) Other than that, I loved it and can't wait for my next trip there!
