MMA fighter Henry Lorenz relies on discipline and strength to get through life. After inheriting his former mentor’s boxing gym, Henry has his hands full running a business and training a troubled teen who reminds him of himself at that age. Then a stubborn and distractingly beautiful social worker walks through the gym doors, turning Henry’s life upside down. Now, he’s determined to prove to her that there’s more to fighting than knowing how to throw a punch.
Maggie Kavanaugh is devoted to protecting kids from the violence of the streets. She wants them to use their brains, not their fists, to get ahead in life. When one of her most talented teens begins training at Henry’s gym, Maggie is worried. She’ll let the training continue, but she’s going to be watching every step of the way. And that means watching the gruff but smoking hot Henry as well…
When a dark moment from Henry’s past threatens to come between them, he’s torn. Should he keep his secret bottled up inside? Or can he give love a fighting chance?

This is a well written book with strong characters in Henry and Maggie, two people who come together to help a young boy from a dysfunctional family. He's an MMA fighter and works with problem kids while she fights for disadvantaged kids in a different way. They each have their own thoughts on how to deal with the boy ... now they have to figure out how to do it together. The author brings a ton of emotions along with the romance and delivers a great addition to the series. Loved and recommend this book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Let me get this out of the way first, this book has a HAPPY ending. Like, over-the-top happy. The author did not include the specific details of how the couple ended up that happy but such is the nature of short books. The author used the space in the story to tell the here and now of the characters.
Henry took over Sol's gym when Sol died. In order to do that, Henry gave up a very successful career as an MMA fighter. He commits everything he is and everything he has to keep the gym afloat. He is a good guy through and through. He struggles to come to terms with the mistakes of his past but he tries in his own way to atone. Maggie is a do-gooder. She is judgemental and kind of rude to anyone that doesn't commit to change the way she thinks it should happen. (Do you get the feeling I didn't like her very much? You'd be correct.) She quit her job as a teacher to pursue her dream of helping kids to reach their goals. She wants one of her students, Roosevelt, to have the chance to go to college and break the poverty cycle. Her determination means she wears blinders to everything else around her. I am going to give the author credit for giving Maggie a HUGE learning curve and tons of growth. She really had to work through a lot of issues to come to the realization that the world does not work according to Maggie.
I did have some issues with the story. I really hate Maggie's parents. I did not feel any different by the end of the story. I didn't understand Roosevelt's story entirely. If he was living with his step-father and was scared for his little sister's well-being then why would he stay at the residential home for orphans. I wasn't clear about Sol's gym. I thought it was in a bad part of town but it attracts businessmen and rich people?
Overall, I enjoyed this book and I thought it was a great addition to the series. I even smiled about the super, crazy happy ending. I will read more from this author in the future. (p.s. You should read the series in order or some of this story might nor make a ton of sense.).

Opposites in every way except in the most important one Tap Out (Solomon Pro Athletes Book 3) by Leslie North is a tragically driven romance with characters who are just about as opposite as they get. Each book in this series has been leading up to this series finish as each of these pro athletes struggled in their youth. Henry’s story is the most troubling and tragic. Totally pulled the heartstrings. Henry and Maggie have a similar passion, helping disadvantaged youth, yet their approaches are diametrically different. Maggie, so righteous in her pursuit to help, struggles to accept Henry’s way is just as valid as hers. Henry struggles with his shame and secret, how his past is connected to his present and directly relates to Maggie. The emotional dichotomy of these characters is both beautiful and tragic. Henry is trying to honor his mentor and make up for a massive mistake. He is so humble that Maggie shamefully judges him harshly. Once Maggie learns about Henry’s true, humble nature, the many good deeds, and the mentor he aspires to be like, she has to accept a bit of humble pie and find common ground. This couple are magic and unstoppable when they work together, especially for Roosevelt and his little sister Layla. Support, encouragement, understanding, protection are just a few ways Henry and Maggie help. But it turns out, these two work together in a more personal and intimate manner as well. Overall, despite Henry’s past mistake and their opposing views, he and Maggie come together for Roosevelt then find the right compromise to stay together for a HEA that encompasses their hearts, healing, hope for family and the promise of a better community too. Henry was keeping Sol’s memory alive. Sol helped him and his best friends more like brothers Marcus and Chase! He was looking for the funding to keep the gym open. A fiery red head comes stormy in and turning his world upside down. She gave him a tongue lashing he couldn’t believe. The kids come to the gym just like he did. Maggie was apart of this home to help kids. Roosevelt was a bright young man. He builds bridges and Maggie wants to help him reach his full potential. She doesn’t think that can happen if he is at the gym. Maggie gets more than she hopes for. She is attracted to the man she stormed in the gym to let him have it. She thinks Roosevelt has a brilliant mind and skill to build bridges. He doesn’t need to fight. Henry and Maggie are so different. They have different beliefs but can’t stop thinking and being near each other. Maggie made a deal with Henry to get Roosevelt to work his his school work and not the gym. Roosevelt had a little sister to think about. His step father was a train wreck who took his mother from him. He will do anything to save Layla. A fire at gym makes him get back in to the octagon for a fight. He needs the money for the gym. Everyone else keeps telling him to let the gym go. He refuses to listen. Silas saved him and he wants to keep his memory alive. Roosevelt’s stepfather wants to make Maggie pay for putting ideas in his head instead of getting a job. This book has suspense, romance. Great story.

Henry Lorenz had inherited Sol's gym , he had kept the name in honour of the man who had seen potential in him, the man who had channelled his anger into something positive after a traumatic experience in his youth. Henry had progressed to be a champion MMA fighter and was now trying to put into practice what Sol had taught him ,he was paying for his guilt not only in money but with his desire keep kids off the streets and teaching them discipline, channeling their energy as Sol had channeled his. Enter the whirlwind that was Maggie Kavanaugh. Maggie had been brought up to be an activist, joining protest marches etc with her parents but she was more interested in encouraging children to be the best that they could be, spotting potential when others couldn't. One such boy was Roosevelt, a boy who came from an abusive background but who Maggie was determined to push into studying, she was horrified to find that Roosevelt was spending some of his spare time at Sol's Gym being taught how to fight, it was barbaric and she would put a stop to it, she didn't count on the handsome owner of the gym making her go weak at the knees but it was game on. The chemistry between Maggie and Henry was electric, could Henry make Maggie see his point of view, what would happen when Maggie discovered Henry's secret. A lovely emotional romance.

Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this book. I'll give this 3.5 stars for the interesting plot, unique characterisations, and the presence of a 'child' we were all rooting for one way or the other.
I loved the drama and plot twists we found out along with Henry about Caliban and Roosevelt's stepfather. They were both done well, and the moment Maggie learnt the truth was very emotional/full of suspense.
The reason I'm not giving this 4 stars or more is that it didn't fully hook me to the plot. Yes, I finished this in one sitting, but I wasn't 100% invested in Maggie's life. I didn't really care if she was able to get Roosevelt to pay attention to his studies or not. Henry's life was a bit more fascinating (and he had secrets to hide), so I was much more interested in reading his perspective.
Another thing that made me a bit apprehensive to read this was the presence of large paragraphs that explained the characters' backstories. Honestly speaking, they're terrifying to read, especially for people with a small attention span (hello, that's me). It makes my eyes skim over the lines instead of savouring each word like sweet delicacies.
Still, this book was definitely something I wouldn't mind sharing with my friends if they're in the mood to read about MMA fighters, pacifist social workers, and an enemies-to-lovers trope that's done well.
I so wished I had read the second book in the series, but alas. I loved Tap Out, although I didn’t really know who the other characters were. I admired Henry’s discipline, but also Maggie’s devotion to her pupils. And then their attraction toe ach other, oh wow – that was hot. In each other’s “neck”and fighting the attraction. I enjoyed the tension between them. And that means watching the gruff but smoking hot Henry as well… When a dark moment from Henry’s past threatens to come between them, he’s torn. Should he keep his secret bottled up inside? Or can he give love a fighting chance?
Of all the kids Sol rescued off the streets Henry Lorenz was the most dedicated to Sol and his mission. Henry went on to be a two time MMA champion, but when Sol got sick needing nursing. Henry did not need to think twice about quitting his career to come home. He was having trouble adjusting to the loss of Sol and running the gym alone. When he met a passivist, Maggie Kavanaugh that worked in the neighborhood with disadvantaged children in a home setting. Making sure they went to school, did their homework, becoming all they could. She had came to the gym, because they had an in common student, Roosevelt. He was a high school senior that Henry could see himself in as a fighter, and Maggie saw a future bridge builder. She wanted Henry to help her to get Roosevelt to buckle down for a scholarship competition. There was more going on in this young man's life than either of them had any idea at that time. His problem would soon became their's. They were both drawn to to each other, but she was having trouble getting past the violence of his fighting. An enjoyable read as Henry, Maggie, and Roosevelt discover their true places in the world.

This was a book about second chances, personal choices, and the dangers of first impressions. I was instantly charmed by Henry. He’d experienced so much pain and tragedy, it felt imperative to me that he find his happy ending. Maggie challenged me. At first, I wasn’t sure I even liked her, because social-crusader characters are difficult. Too many times they’re written as strident, screechy hypocrites that we never see grow. Even though Maggie starts off as that opinionated, judgmental character I was worried about, we see her grow a lot. The sparks and chemistry between these two leap off the page. I’m feeling a little singed just from reading about them. There’re a couple plot bunnies I would have loved to chase down further, but overall, this story held my attention and kept me cheering for their Happy Ever After. I’m kind of sorry the series is over now, but I feel like this was the perfect way to close it out. I received a complimentary advance copy of this book through Booksprout.
Heartbroken after the death of his mentor, MMA champ Henry Lorenz drops out of the fight circuit to run Sol's gym and help the youth in the community. Maggie is a social worker determined to help youth make more of themselves than the streets can teach them. When one of her more promising students, Roosevelt, starts training with Henry, she stops by to give him a piece of her mind. Henry is everything her pacifist parents warned her against. But when they compromise to help Roosevelt and she sees the good he's doing with the other kids, she realizes there's more to this man than fighting and violence. But he's hiding a secret from his past that could change everything. I hated Maggie's negative attitude in the beginning, but I was glad when she realized that not everything was as black and white as she believed. Henry's character was pure gold, determined to help the kids in his community like Sol helped him. A fighter in the outside, but a teddy bear on the inside. Loved this book! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Working Together Achieves Better Results - Henry and Maggie may have had different points views when it came to what the best route was for Roosevelt’s future, but it was evident that they both loved him and wanted him to succeed. What Henry and Maggie didn’t know at the time, was that their lives were linked due a past incident. They soon realised that working together would be better than against each other, when Roosevelt’s stepfather became a problem in his life. It would take a near fatal incident to make them finally acknowledge their feelings for each other and fight for their forever happiness.
Leslie North showed her talent again, by writing a story about flawed, relatable characters that you just can’t help but fall in love with. This was a deliciously page-turning read, that you will definitely enjoy. I highly recommend this awesome book for your reading pleasure.

Henry works at Sol’s Gym and teaches and mentors youth. He is a boxer and MMA champion. Maggie sees Henry as the bad guy. He teaches these children how to protect themselves and uses their fighting and martial arts to help them deal with their feelings. But Maggie sees it at teaching these youth to fight and deal with things violently. Maggie is trying to help a young man get away from all of this violence and attend college to better himself. The young man wants to work with Henry and maybe be a fighter one day. Can these two work out their differences? Can Henry help Maggie see that he is not teaching these youth violence? Can Maggie help Henry deal with his feelings and his fear that he will continue to use violence to solve problems? Can Henry come to terms with his past and decide what he is going to do with his life? A sweet story of two people who face challenges and try to overcome.

I just loved Tap Out: Book 3 of Solomon Pro Athlete. This series is just so amazing. Henry was a champion MMA fighter who gave it up to run Sol’s gym after he died. He wanted to keep giving kids a place to go, kids like Roosevelt. Maggie wants Henry to stay away from Roosevelt, not to train him. She thinks he has a brighter future than fighting. They are both right, but can they see the others point of view? As a secret comes out that in effect ends their relationship before they can define it. Both will do anything to protect Roosevelt and his sister but will that common goal be enough to overcome obstacles? Another great story for Solomon series. Such amazing stories and characters. I love the bond the three athletes share and I hope there is more in this series. I would definitely recommend this book.

This is book 3 and the last in North's Solomon Pro Athlete series. This book can be read as a standalone and is the story of Henry and Maggie. Henry is a former pro MMA fighter who gave up his career to run his mentor (Sol's) gym after he passed. Henry is trying to keep the legacy Sol started by helping troubled kids. Maggie is dedicated to keeping violence from kids and runs a boy's home. Both of these amazing characters are out to help Roosevelt, a young man who has come into both their lives and brings both Henry and Maggie together. The sparks fly from the start in both good and bad ways. Can these two come together for their own HEA as well as to help Roosevelt in the best way possible? A well written romance that is sure to delight. I loved this series so much and hate to see it end but definitely looking forward to what's to come next!

Henry is an MMA champion. He gave up the fighting for his mentor’s illness. After he inherited the gym, he has been using all his winning and investors’ money to make the gym a place for the young and old. Now he is facing some finance issue. One of the kids coming to his gym appears to be a genius. His teacher Meggie is devoted to talented teens. She puts her income to help these kids. Maggie and Henry both love the kid, but their belief is conflicting to each other. The chemistry between them is sizzling and irresistible, even though they believe in opposite approaches. When Henry’s past is revealed and a gun shot makes them realize something is more important than their respective belief. This is a great story. Maggie and Henry are interesting characters and the plot has a bit of twist. I enjoy the story.
man who kept Marcus, Chase and Henry on the straight and narrow, had left his gym to Henry, and Henry is trying to carry on Sol’s legacy – mentoring troubled children, in a poor area, and encouraging them to make good decisions while letting out their frustrations by boxing. One of these children (teenager) is also being mentored by Maggie, and she believes that education is the key to improving oneself.
As you most probably have guessed, they clash, then are attracted to each other, and one of them has a really dark secret.
This book has romance, steam, boxing & mixed martial arts. The two main characters have secrets from each, now they just need to learn to trust each other.
Kick back, take a load off your feet and have a good loaf while reading this book.

They share a common goal, what differs is how to make that goal a reality. Maggie and Henry are both fighters. Henry is a man of the streets that has the heart of a champion and the determination to rise above his volatile surroundings and became a better man. Maggie like Henry has seen what violence can do. She makes it her mission to protect the young minds of tomorrow by encouraging the use of mind over fists. When she finds herself embroiled in a battle of heart, mind and body with a man that represents everything she detests, her life gets even more complicated. With Tap Out, North gives the heart and mind something to believe in. One determined person can make a difference. That's a message I can get behind 100%
Henry is a former MMA champion, and has taken over the gym his mentor used to run. He’s a bit stuck in the past and has some emotional baggage that he has to work through during the book. Maggie is a former teacher who now works at a boys home and is working hard to try and help the children move past the rotten hand they were initially dealt. She thinks any form of fighting is useless, and has her own emotional baggage to deal with. They initially butt heads over a boy in Maggie’s care, but soon the sparks are flying for a different reason. There were a lot of hurdles these two had to overcome, but they got their HEA.

Loved This Sports-Themed Series Leslie North’s “Tap Out,” the final book in the Solomon Pro Athletes trilogy, is the story of MMA fighter Henry Lorenz and social worker Maggie Kavanaugh who have this whole enemies-to-lovers vibe going on that is (at times) frustrating and often insanely hot because the chemistry is pretty amazing. I love the appearances of other characters from earlier in the series and the backstory for Marcus, Chase, and Henry. Let me tell you, some elements of this one were like a sucker punch to the gut - never saw them coming! And although Maggie’s attitude can be a bit too much sometimes, she’s got a huge heart. This was a departure from other North series I’ve read, and it was such a pleasure to do so!
Henry was a fighter who stepped away to continue Sol's legacy to save kids. Maggie was a woman who cared deeply about children and their future and strived to help kids get out of bad situations. Both had a common goal but both had different pathways to saving the kids. One day their world collided and they were both fighting to save the same kid but both thought their path to saving the kid was very different. They constantly butting of heads lead to passionate feelings that they both had trouble fighting. Only problem is that Henry had a secret and it could destroy it all before it even really got started.

Tap Out rounds out the Solomon Pro Athlete three. Leslie North writes heartfelt stories. Tap Out is a great addition to her series.
Henry Lorenz was a kid heading for trouble. He was given direction by a local gym owner. After the death of the owner, Henry is left with the gym. He wants to pay back to the neighborhood and help other loss teens. He is knocked off balance when Maggie Kavanaugh enters his gym.
Maggie Kavanaugh gave up her teaching job for a more rewarding job tutoring and mentoring disadvantage kids. She feels strongly for kids in her care. Maggie gets worried when she discovers one of her promising charges is hanging out at Henry's gym.

Henry inherits the gym from Sol and decides to give up his MMA career to work the gym. Maggie is a social worker that wants to help disadvantaged youth. One of her kids is struggling so she tries to help him. This has her going to the gym to see Henry. Roosevelt goes to the gym and Henry knows him and she hopes that he can help her get Roosevelt to focus on the scholarship competition. Sparks fly between them and its not long before things heat up between them. Will they find more than they were looking for together?
This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.

Henry and Maggie's story is the third book in the Solomon Pro Athlete series. Henry took over the gym after the owner passed away. He not only trains fighters but help teach teens discipline. Maggie is a social worker, who is not keen on violence. When she sees that one of the kids, she is checking up on is at the gym, she is not happy with it.
This is a good story with heated push and pull between Henry and Maggie, as they are fighting to help the kids but in two different ways. The heat and connection between burn the pages and will have you wanting more.

I love MMA stories and money for this one too. The Solomon Pro Athlete Series This is the story of Henry and Maggie. Henry's mentor has died and he is going to take over his gym and Maggie works for and protects problem children from the street. The interaction and chemistry between them is palpable, not everything goes smoothly or smoothly between them, but they still keep visiting each other and help each other become stronger and also how they are as a person. I think Leslie North has written a great story but also a great series.

Henry inherited the gym from his mentor and keeps it afloat with his competition winnings. The gym serves as a safe place for at risk youth. Now Maggie, the social worker has one of these kids as a student who can qualify for a scholarship in college. They go nose to nose when she doesn’t feel the gym is an appropriate place for him to spend his after school time. She begins to hang around and is slowly realizing he is not what she thinks he is. Can they work together so everyone wins? Nicely written and very interesting.

Tap Out is the third book in the Solomon Pro Athletes series. This story is about MMA fighter Henry Lorenz and the woman who becomes his distraction and obsession, Maggie Kavanaugh, a local social worker. Maggie had her opinion on fighting and fighters, and both are not good. So when she meets Henry lets just say that she may like what she sees but she is not about to take a hit from it. This was a great story, actually I liked it the best of the series. I loved the characters and their chemistry and attraction is off the charts, lava hot. This is another thoroughly entertaining and engaging story by the author.
Henry is an MMA fighter and works with troubled kids in his spare time just like Sol helped him and his friends when he was younger. Maggie also works with disadvantaged kids, pushing them to do better. She sees potential in boy called Roosevelt who comes from a dysfunctional family, but she doesn't like him training at Henry's gym, thinking it is too barbaric. This young boy helps brings them together and soon the chemistry between them is hard to deny.
I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it.
