Awesome to get to know John and Keegan...

The author did a great job on this one. Was wonderful following John in his journey of acceptance of his wolf. Another excellent book by one of my favorite authors.

I liked it, for the most part. John certainly deserved a place go belong and be happy. And Keegan does, undeniably, make him happy. Seeing him grow into his wolfiness was nice.
My two... complaints? On one hand, John is friends with Beau before Beau joins the dragons and he joins the pack, and while they're practically neighbors and could still be friends, Beau is kind of missing from John's life. Which sucks, as they could both have each other. Second, Niall's hair supposedly turns white. But if my memory isn't wrong, wasn't it white in the last book too? That had me confused. And it's supposed to be a big deal, too.

This review and much more can be found at Love Bytes Reviews.

Note: This is the second book in a series and contains spoilers for the previous book. It’s also related to another series, Dragon Sanctuary, and contains some spoilers for that series also.

We met John Leahy in a previous story, Snow Dragon, part of the Dragon Sanctuary series. He and his PI Partner Beau, were magical beings – they just didn’t know it 🙂 So John is a wolf shifter and so he ends up staying with the pack and the alphas. Keegan and his brother Jameson are leading the pack through change. Some in the pack, however, are not keen on the changes. They have not been happy about the cooperation with the dragons nor some of the new technology that the brothers have brought in. One of the things they really don’t like is John. They see him as an outsider and they don’t trust him. He’s had trouble controlling his shifting but he didn’t even know he was a shifter until very recently, so it should be accepted.

Keegan tries to help John who spends most of his time on his own trying to stay warm and learn control. John feels like he’s being asked to do tricks and he’s not liking it at all. There is definitely some sort of spark there between John and Keegan but John has a lot of issues. He was adopted and he knows nothing about his original family or how he came to be a shifter. He’s definitely had more difficulties than his colleague Beau has had fitting into his new life. John just wants to get away. Keegan doesn’t let him though 😉

Eventually John figures out that Keegan is attracted to him. Keegan is afraid to scare him off, but he knows John is his mate. Finally John realizes that he and Keegan belong together. He does what he can to help the pack – including cooking and baking and being there for those who need help. Unfortunately that is not everyone and there are those who would rather kill John than see him with one of their alphas. The showdown brings in other forces to try to control the bad actors. John is happy though with Keegan and he vows to protect him and their son and be there for all who need him.

Poor John. Find out you are not only a wolf, but an omega wolf and the mate of a pack alpha. That’s not too much pressure is it? Definitely not what he thought he signed up for. He’s been in no way prepared for all the things he’s discovered on this mountain and he’s not sure he can handle it all. Luckily Keegan is right there for him. He clearly wants him to be happy and wants to support John in whatever way he can. John goes from being a hungry and cold loner to a mated parent of a new shifter child over the course of this story. That is a lot! But he makes really good friends in the pack including other expectant parents and he shows that he’s made of strong stuff. He’s not going to just stay in the background. He shows himself to be a fighter and he gains so much confidence after he accepts his life with the pack. I was happy to see him get his happy ending and I cannot wait for Jameson’s story 🙂 This is another fun story in this whole world that I think fans of these wolves and their neighboring dragons will enjoy.

Shifting Winter by Minerva Howe is Book 2 in her Misunderstood Series. John lived most of his life in Denver as a human but was somehow transformed into a werewolf and sent to live with a wolf pack in the high mountains of Utah. While there he was struggling with controlling his shifts, which could happen at any time. He was a loner and this was very embarrassing to him. Keegan and his brother Jameson were the co-alphas of the pack. They had taken over from some bad alphas and were just starting to find their way with the others. He was helping John with his shifting problems but he also knew John was his mate and was biding his time to claim him. Things came to a head and when he finally got tired of waiting, he claimed him. John wasn’t sure about this but he was attracted to Keegan and as time when on he knew he was in love with him. The story continues as they get to know each other and have to show some of the older members of the pack that they were true mates. John also has to prove to himself that he is worthy and capable, that he belongs with Keegan, and that he can make some friends. I enjoyed this story. I didn’t read the first book in the series but I did figure out what was going on. I do feel that if I had read it first, this one would have made more sense earlier in my reading. I liked the characters and how caring Keegan was especially when John was feeling vulnerable. The side characters were also very interesting and helped the couple to adjust with their advice. There was some angst as John learned that he did belong and also with the pack members that didn’t think Keegan should have mated with him. There were also some hot love scenes. Ms. Howe has created a different kind of shifter world including dragons that I want to read more about after reading this book so I will be looking into her other stories. I recommend this book, especially if you enjoy books about shifters falling in love.

Another great book in this interesting universe of wolves and dragons. It’s extremely helpful to read the prior book in the series and I would suggest reading the dragon series as well. John makes his first appearance in Book 4 of that book in Seth and Beau’s story. He is a private investigator friend of Beau’s that came looking for him after he didn’t return home. He gets more answers that he wasn’t looking for and discovers he’s a wolf shifter. This book picks up where John has been living with Keegan and Jameson’s pack for a while now learning to control his shifting abilities before he wishes to return to the human world.

Keegan and John have an interesting dynamic. There is a little hurt/comfort in a sense as John is having difficulty adapting and figuring out his place in the pack and as a wolf. Keegan wants him to know he’s wanted and that he can come to him for anything. There are pack dynamics drama to be dealt with and lots of adorable kids running around the pack house. There is less angst in this book compared to some of the others as Keegan and John realize their relationship early on in the book. As always, these books are a fun and entertaining read.

I cannot wait for Jameson’s book and who I hope is his mate. And where can we get that cookie recipe!?!

I received an early copy of this book from GRR and this is my honest and fair review.

I really enjoy reading the Dragon Evil universe and it's great to read John finally get his story and one of the alphas from the pack meet their mate.
Poor John, dealing with discovering he's a shifter when an adult and having to move to this unknown place with unknown people and a whole new physical way of life. It's great when Keegan finally gets with the program as the two together are so well matched. You get a real sense of family and pack as they live with several of them and most are close by. There is drama with the older members of the pack who aren't happy with change or anything different but they definitely get put in their place. We also get to see Loyal and Niall again, Keegan's brother and brother in law from book one, seeing how far they've come and have moved on since the sad moments at the end of the Dragon Sanctuary series.
A heartwarming shifter romance with mates and mpreg, family and pack politics. I'm looking forward to Jameson's story soon! The author has created a wonderful world for these shifters that seems to be ever expanding.

I adore this series and universe - John and Keegan are another example of why

Poor sweet John. I’d been worried about him and how much he was struggling to adjust. Luckily he had the sweet, gentle Keegan there to help him. I loved that Keegan didn’t always get it right but he worked so hard to try to. Things weren’t perfect, there were lots of different things tugging John and Keegan in different directions but they put the effort in to being there for each other. I love that about Minerva’s books - yes, mates are instinctual and fated in a sense but you still have to put the work in. Being in a loving relationship is hard sometimes, that’s reality, but when you really love someone putting in the hard work is worth it. We got to see lots of family and John slowly starting to find his place in the pack as well as Niall being a total BAMF. I’m really looking forward to what’s coming next (at least what I’m 99% sure is next) and I’m trying really hard to remember to be patient because I feel like it’s going to be just as good if not better than John and Keegan’s story!

Like so many others who have wandered up the mountain where the dragons and wolves are living their magical lives, John came in search of Beau and wound up finding out something about himself he did not know. He is a wolf shifter but it is taking him a while to settle into that and not blame it on being infected. It shows in his inability to settle in and control his shifting. He needs a connection and a purpose to find his way into the pack and settle in. Keegan was trying to help and give him time to get used to his new life but comes to realize that claiming John and mating with him goes a long way towards helping him get there. It was unfortunate that some were not happy with Keegan finding his mate in a man, especially since that man was not someone already from the pack. Despite that they not only find their way to their ever after, they expand their family. I am looking forward to his brother finding his person soon. Next story please!

Shifting Winter is the second Misinderstood book. This is John’s story that we met in Snow Dragon, he’s Beau’s ex-PI partner. He’s now living with Keegan’s pack and struggling to accept he’s a wolf shifter and it’s making him partial shift at the worst times. He’s always cold and grumpy. Keegan is the co-Alpha of the pack and is John’s mate and he’s tired of watching John struggle. He didn’t want to force the issue but he’s decided to make his move. Keegan and John finally get together!! Things are going good bu there are pack members that are jerks and don’t want to accept John as Keegan’s mate. This was such a fantastic story about acceptance and love. I loved that Keegan was so patient with John! This was a super sweet with heat and spicy romance. Loved, loved, loved John and Keegan, just perfect. Overall, a fantastic read that hooked me and didn’t let go, read in one sitting. Well written with great pacing.

John is Beau's best friend & we met him in Seth & Beau's story. He is a PI who is friends with Beau, though he is a major loner. When Beau disappears, he shows up at the mountain looking for him. He is then introduced to the world of wolves & dragons. And unbeknownst to him, he is also a wolf. He is positive that he was given something that made him this way, not because he was born a wolf. Keegan starts off by taking it slow with John, even though he knows that John is an omega & his mate. But since John has decline in health, he changes his mind & goes full out in pursuing his mate. There are those in the pack that are not happy with the "outsider" or that Keegan mated with a male. I can't wait for Jameson to get his mate. If you haven't read the other series, I recommend you do so. The dragon's are awesome.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest opinion.

It was a pleasure to read this very entertaining, heartwarming Mpreg shifter romance. The plot has good world building and there are some very intriguing situations, making sure that the reader’s attention is firmly kept. The individual characters (an alpha male wolf, Keegan) & (a male human turned omega wolf shifter, John) have a variety of traits & different sides to their personalities but continue to develop throughout the storyline to become emotional strong individuals who love each other. There is good support from the secondary characters.
There is: Keegan’s brother & co-alpha (Jameson), wolf & dragon shifters, fated mates, some humor, twists & turns, suspense, intrigue, action, emotional turmoil, trust issues, protectiveness, complications, disapproval, confrontations, compromises, love, steamy scenes, happiness, contentment & a satisfying happy conclusion. I look forward to future books from this author & would recommend this book.

Shifting Winter is the second book in the Misunderstood series by author Minerva Howe. This story does take place in the A Dragon Veil Universe and is a Mpreg Romance. I will say this story was not as captivating for me as other stories from Ms. Howe. I couldn’t tell you just what it was though, but I had a hard time getting into this one.

John is not a fan of the cold. Learning to control his shifts and is frustrated he cannot do the basic shifting kids can do. He was a PI in Denver he had a purpose he feels like all that is gone now. He just wants to run back to the life he knows best.

Keegan is Alpha. He is teaching John. He knows John is his mate. But he has to wait for John to get used to his wolf and the power that comes with that. He has to be patient.

I found I wanted to like this story way more than I did. However, I would like to read more in this series and see if I can get more into it.

I really enjoy this Dragon Veil Universe and any chance I get to come back to it!

Shifting Winter is John and Keegan’s story - after John shows up on the mountain and discovers he’s really a wolf, he struggles to come to terms with it and to fit in with the pack. Keegan has a soft spot for him, knowing John’s his mate and not wanting to rush him into anything. Once they both finally give in to their attraction, things heat up quickly between them. But there’s pack members who aren’t so accepting of the Alpha choosing an outsider as his mate, leading to some tense moments and stand-offs that bring John and Keegan closer together as they start to create a family of their own despite the hate and John’s rocky start with the pack.

Loved seeing Loyal and Niall again and can’t wait for Jameson to find his mate (hopefully Lucien!!) soon!

We met John in book 4 of the Dragon Sanctuary series and I have been waiting for his story! When we last saw John he was so confused and scared. It made me a little sad to see that it had been about a year but he was still scared. My mood quickly turned around when I saw how much Keegan cared for him. Keegan has known for a year that John was his mate but he didn’t want John to get even more confused by what’s going on. Keegan can’t wait anymore and realizes telling John might actually help John out. Their story is really sweet and is pretty low angst. We do get to see Niall using his incredible magic during the little bit of angst that does happen. I really enjoyed this story and I am very excited for Jameson’s story.

I did receive a free ARC of this book but that did not influence my review.

I'm fully involved in this series/spinoff of the sanctuary and get excited when I see what's coming next. With John...meeting him prior and having so many feels on his shifting situation, I was so glad he was getting some happiness after being so alone. Keegan there to guide him and ultimately gaining his trust and love was real special. The mating came quick but it was necessary to get the story/romance going and I loved how it played out. Gaining family and friends along the way was awesome and made this an enjoyable read. Now there always a little conflict that can throw off the happiness vibe but NOPE...John and Keegan fought threw that foolishness and became stronger...This really was a delight and highly recommend reading...especially the books before to get the ultimate experience of this paranormal world.

It's been a few years since I started the Dragon Veil Universe and I missed the Dragon Sanctuary books as well as the first Misunderstood. That said, I had no problems diving into this world with Keegan and John. John, who shifted later in life, has problems holding a shift and grows wolf ears and sprouts fur at inappropriate time. As his mate, Keegan is determined to help. He also shows John his worthiness to be a wolf and to be pack.
A found family story. With acceptance as a secondary theme, accepting the change in your life and embracing love.
Makes me want to go back and restart the stories from the Dragon Hoard books.

Absolutely fantastic!

I loved this book! The story of Keegan and John is filled with love, friends new and old and is an absolute must read! John came to the area with his friend Beau, who is up on the mountain with the dragons. Having just found out he’s a wolf shifter, John struggles to control his shifts and fit in. It won’t take long before things change when Keegan, one of the pack alpha’s, realizes that John is his mate. This will lead them down a path to their happily ever after that will be a bit bumpy as there will be those who think of John as an outsider not one of their own.

I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.

This book is the second book in the series and really you need to have read the first book in the series, although this book is about John and Keegan, characters from not only the first book but others from the shared universe add background and story. John we first met in Snow Dragon of the Dragon Sanctuary series, he is having trouble still accepting his wolf side, Keegan has known John is his mate since they met, this is the sweet, fast paced story of how they come together, make their relationship work and stand up for each other against those who don’t like their mating.
This is an enjoyable story and a likeable read.

Delicious! John doesn't understand how he bacame a werewolf. He is struggling to control his shift and it's taking a long time to feel comfortable in his fur. Keegan and John took over the pack and share Alpha duties. Keegan vows to help John bond with his wolf. He also knows John is his mate. The pack is wary of John and that creates all sorts of complications. Is Keegan and John's mating true? Can Keegan keep the pack safe and together. Does John ever fit in? Good story. Great addition to the series and spin offs. Excellent characters. It's nice to see how old friends are doing. I don't want this series to end. Well done. I received an ARC and am happily leaving a review.

John is new to discovering he's a wolf shifter and needs all the support he can get. Keegan, co-alpha to the pack, is designated to help John on his journey. Some days are better than others. Keegan knows they are mates but is k stricter by his brother to wait until John has a handle on his new abilities. Only waiting seems to be the problem.
Their trust and intimacy, helps John develop better footing with himself and most of the pack.
Fitting in wasn't easy but as the story progressed, we saw exactly why he ended up where he did. All good things come in time.

Main pack wolves meet their mates.

I can't get enough of the Dragon Veil universe books by Minerva.

The Dragon books were phenomenal, with excellent world-building, and all the characters had depth and great personalities. So I was excited to start this new series, which isn't about the Dragons but is still linked.

Keegan is one of the two Alphas who now run the main pack. We met them initially through the Dragon books as they liaised with the Wolves pack. John, his mate, was first introduced when he followed his friend up the mountain. Now we get to hear their stories. And what a tale they both have to tell. The pack are far from happy with Keegan's choice of mate.

Again, this is a well-written story; you feel you know all the characters.

Seriously a lovely paranormal romance with great side characters and main ones.

I will definitely get the audio if/when it's released.

Eh. This series is getting worse, not better.

John always thought he was human, but finds out he is now a wolf shifter. He's residing with the pack to learn to control his shifts. He's also a former PI. You would think his character would be complex, grappling with the changes, loss of autonomy, desire to do the PI thing he's done all his life. This would have been a perfect opportunity to throw in a mystery, however small, for John to solve.

Nope.

The characters are all very one dimensional. Keegan, is a typical alpha. And John is a simpering Omega most of the time. I'll read the next in the series. Just to see if it gets better?

I just love all of these related books in the Dragon Veil universe. I am so glad to see John getting his story. He was frightened and a little messed up when he discovered dragons and wolves, but Keegan and his brother Jameson will get him settled. Keegan and his comalpha brother Jameson both deserve some peace after the mess with the old alphas and their antiquated ways. They have their work cut out for them. I know this whole story isn’t over yet and I can’t wait to see how it goes. I love these characters.

A patience alpha and a confused omega.
Keegan knows John is his mate but only through patient love and understanding can Keegan win over John's confused state of mind. Of course, appearances from the dragon clan, especially Niall's sudden appearance, help an alpha assisted strategy to those of the old guard who believed in the old rules of "he's not born to us." There is a new character also introduced named Lucian who this author writes hints for Jameson's future. This was a fun read with its much-deserved HEA. This is my honest and voluntary review.

After getting small doses of Keegan in the first book in this series, I was glad to see him find his mate and read their story. John is the perfect omega for him. Their story had a lot of spice, humor, and just the right amount of angst.

I love a series with connected books. I really feel like I get to know the characters and experience their journeys. I enjoyed the appearances from Niall and Loyal, and updates for other characters who appeared in the first book. I can’t wait to read Jameson’s story and catch up with Loyal, Keegan and their mates again.

We first met John in the Snow Dragon of the Dragon Sanctuary series, he is having trouble still accepting his wolf side.
Keegan has know from the start that John is his mate. He keeps silent about it, trying to give John time to acclimate to being in the pack. As John's health starts to suffer Keegan shows him who they are meant to be together.
I loved seeing them learn who the other is and love and accept that person.
This was an enjoyable read with a very satisfying HEA. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is the second installment in the spin-off series Misunderstood and it was a must read for me. At this moment I have read every single book Ms Howe has written on this Universe and John and Keegan's story is another little piece in the whole puzzle. I enjoyed so much witnessing John's doubts and hesitation being overcome by the sweet Keegan and how perfectly they fit together. The story can be read as standalone, but I strongly recommend to read it as part of the whole Universe and to start with Dragon Sanctuary series and then with book 1, to better enjoyment. Loved it so much!

I admit I was first drawn to the dragon shifter series by this author, but I am so invested in everyone who lives on this particular mountain now. John and Keegan are wolves a little further down the mountain from the dragons. I love seeing the crossover from the dragon series (Dragon Sanctuary) and seeing those characters again. I really like John and Keegan together and like seeing them eventually get what they need. As I said previously, I am very invested in the families on this mountain and look forward to any book that takes place in this world.

This was a great book! It is book two in the Misunderstood series. But in the same world as her dragons. Keegan is the co-leader of his pack in the mountains in Utah along with his brother. He meets his mate in John who is a recently turned wolf. John is having trouble fitting into the community and with being a wolf (shifting). Keegan is the wolf that helps him transition. I really liked the two together they had great chemistry. The side characters were great in trying to help them figure things out. Definitely recommend this series.
