When Maui's biggest local surfing event of the year hits the island, Charlie plans on sticking to the sidelines, cheering for Zoe, safely away from the water. But on day one of the competition, a body washes up on shore, and it’s one of Vesper’s ex-boyfriends.
With Vesper quickly emerging as one of the prime suspects, Charlie, Dot and Rosie jump into action to clear the former surfer’s name and find the real killer. But Jake is in charge of the case, and their new relationship is about to be dealt a challenge as they decide to take different tracks.
Add to this the problem of the gangsters in Seattle, and Charlie has her hands full. Will she save her relationship with Jake and solve the case, saving Vesper’s freedom in the process? Or will the killer get to her first, causing Charlie to wipe out—permanently?
I love these books for their wonderful, funky vibe. Charlie is trying to get her act together and sometimes it works as when she stumbles into the solution for a murder case and sometimes it doesn't as when she ends up being a target. Any way they are fun to listen to and a great break from the heavier mysteries I normally read.
Charlotte Gibson has entered a surfing contest, even though she really, really doesn't like the water and doesn't know how to surf. Why? A chance at a year worth of pie. Charlie really, really likes her pie. When a dead body is discovered, she feels the call to solve the case, especially since the police's prime suspect is her older neighbor, Vesper.
The dead dude was a surfboard designer and great guy, to the guys, but a douche to the women he encountered. He was also one of Vesper's ex's and that's why she is a suspect, along with motive-means-opportunity. But she isn't the only suspect with the trifecta. Charlie just has to find the right baddie. And speaking of baddies, the gangsters she fled in Seattle have landed on the island and may be after Charlie.
Surfboard Stabbing is Book 7 in the Charlotte Gibson Mystery series by Jasmine Webb.
I love this series set in Hawaii, SO much!
There is a huge surfing competition that Zoe has entered in, and a body shows up in the water before the competition can even take off.
The murder victim is one of Vesper's ex boyfriends and Charlie works the investigation to clear Vesper's name.
I really loved this mystery. And add to that, Charlie with her new relationship with Jake and Zoe in a relationship with Arthur, I really liked those added aspects to the book.
And let's not forget the scene stealers, Rosie and Dot who always help Charlie with her investigations.
Fun, well written characters with a story that will keep you following the clues and laughing while you do it.
The danger is heating up as is the relationships between Jake and Charlie. With a murderer to find and a possible hitman to dodge, Charlie has a lot on a plate, but will it mean the end of her relationship with Jake?
Jasmine Webb's Charlotte Gibson Mystery Series is laugh-out-loud entertainment. Only Charlotte, aka Charlie could wind up in so many situations that make you shake with laughter. She's been tased so many times her doctor roommate worries she will be brain damaged. But, Charlie always manages to get the culprit in the end. Laugh along with Charlie and her crowd, it'll be an entertaining read.
I love these stories! I figured this one out pretty early, but I love the development of the story line and the characters in each book. They have me aching to read the next one as soon as I finish!
Charlie is up to it again, and this time she is not going to take any threats lying down!
The blurb is a little misleading. Charlie is actually intending on surfing, although she can barely stand up on the board, in hopes of winning one of the raffle prizes. So she is right there when one of the surfers is found dead, stabbed while on his board. When Charlie realizes that her friend, Vesper, will be one of the cop’s main suspects, she decides she has to investigate. Her boyfriend/ police detective is also on the case which makes it a bit awkward.
I don’t know. This one was fun. Charlie was her usual entertaining self; Rosie and Dot are as resourceful as ever; Jake is (almost) following the rules, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as some of the others. The dead man was one of the charming jerks that women know will cheat on them but date him anyway, He also wasn’t making great business decisions, so we have plenty of suspects. And some of them might even have a good reason to stab him.
It’s a quick, fun read, just not my favorite in the series.
The first book in this series was a bit underwhelming. Not bad, just so-so. As the series has progressed so has the writing! I am really enjoying the books now! I love Charlie's sense of humor and I am really liking all of the characters in the books. My only complaint is the editing. There are quite a few mistakes. Be it spelling, timeline, grammar or actual storytelling. At one point in the story it said Dot was driving and in the same scene, it then says Charlie is driving. The author consistently has Charlie pull over if she is using her phone. In this particular part she didn't, but then she did. Then it wasn't her driving, then it was and then it wasn't again. Things like that would be an easy fix with a good editor. Otherwise, I'm really loving all of it!
The characters mesh wonderfully. Zoe the practical one who thinks things through and her female friend who is stubborn and won' give up on investigating murders in Hawaii. She gets in trouble with those who may have committed the crimes. Jake is a police officer and her boyfriend. She drives up him crazy, because what she does is risky! She has been shot with tasers numerous times; but never gives up. A fun book to read.
When a local is murdered during a surfing event, Charlie takes on the case when Vesper is accused of the crime. Tony, the victim is a serial cheater so there are a lot of suspects. The Ham Brothers are still tracking Charlie because she killed their brother and Rosie is tracking a thief in her apartment complex. Lots of plots to follow.
Love Rosie, Dot, Zoe, and of course Charlotte aka Charlie as they work to get clear neighbor Vesper's name in the death of her ex. The fun dialogue is enhanced by narrator Kristine Hvam. I hope to be as spry, quick-witted and dangerous as Rosie and Dot when get to be their age - kidding about the dangerous part, sorta.
Really enjoying the series!! Charlotte and her friends are a kick and her cop BF very forgiving. I recommend this to anyone who likes mysteries where the characters seem very plausible.
Another amazing book in a high quality cozy mystery series! The funny thing is...Charlie only joined the surfing competition because she wanted to win the year of free pie...when the body turned up...Good fun!
The story line and characters are wonderful. There are a few editing mistakes that should heal been caught on a read through. But the dialogue and story telling are so good that the mistakes are just blips.
I thoroughly enjoy the easy reading style, dropped clues, characters and interwoven stories all on the beautiful backdrop of Maui! Highly recommend! ENJOY!!!
Charlie has her hands full when trouble comes to Maui, while helping clear her friend from a surfing fiasco. Especially when the "pool" of suspects are all in the ocean!
I really do love this series. It's fun, the mysteries are great and the characters are crazy. The reason I gave a 4 star rating though is because of the typos and inconsistencies. This is book 7 for goodness sakes! There shouldn't be any editing problems in it at all.
Enjoyed this novel and am still laughing and wondering why I can't put these books down..Keep writing Jasmine and I will keep enjoying you humorous was of writing!
