Seven Christmas themed Georgian/regency romances. Most are part of an ongoing series that I haven’t read, but I never felt lost by not knowing the author or their characters. Still, old fans might be more captivated than new readers.

As all anthologies go, some stories have more depth and development, and carry their weight, and others are skimmable at best.

Bree Wolf: cute simple story where a scheming matchmaker finds her own match

Sydney Jane Baily: forbidden love/insta love with a drawn out conclusion

Tracy Sumner: American governess with hidden identity works for a rakish viscount with a secret hobby. Both are lonely. Most fully realized novella of the group and I’ll seek out her books

Fenna Edgewood: ridiculous insta lust between a widowed countess and a younger groom. Every plot point is unrealistic.

Charlie Lane: a more believable class difference where an anxious lady and the steward who kissed are pitted against each other by her controlling grandmother.

Jennifer Monroe: looming bankruptcy prevents a man from proposing to a forthright woman. Not really Regency accurate and I had to skim it. My least fave.

Meredith Bond an impulsive girl falls for a younger son of a principality during treaty negotiations again a house party. I skimmed it.

3.5 I received an arc from NetGalley

Sweet box set based around the Christmas period. Seven wonderful authors have put together some fun stories to keep the reader occupied.
Bree Wolf: Once Upon and Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss – Having read other Whickerton tales, I loved reading about Grandma Edie’s background in this story. Delightful tale.
Sydney Jane Baily: A Diamond for Christmas – Two people from warring families. When the attraction flourishes, will they be able to reach for happiness, or will their families and other outside influences keep them apart? Lovely read.
Tracy Sumner: The Governess Gamble – Two lonely people from different cultures find their very own Christmas miracle. Lovely story.
Fenna Edgewood: The Countess’s Christmas Groom – Two mis-matched people from different classes find romance. Can they overcome outside prejudice. Sweet tale.
Charlie Lane: A Very Daring Christmas – Another tale of class differences. Will these two unlikely people find love at Christmas? Lovable tale.
Jennifer Monroe: Gentleman of Christmas Past – A delightful tale. Can Agnes persuade Phillip that they are meant to be together? Will Christmas work its magic?
Meredith Bond: Christmas Intrigue – Impulsive behaviour vs staid Diplomat, who will win out in the end? Will love win out? Sweet read.

Once Upon An Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss by Bree Wolf

A Diamond For Christmas by Sydney Jane Bailey

The Governess Gamble by Tracy Sumner

This makes my heart burst! All the feels in epic proportions. I don’t know what it is about the heroes of The Duchess Society, but they find the absolute best of men. Rakes, scoundrels and rascals that are simply biding their time, waiting for the One woman who can conquer them completely. These womanizers transform into the most selfless, devoted men who will burrow into your soul. Chance Allerton may have been ‘Lord Love-em-and-leave-em’ but that was only because he hadn’t found the woman he couldn’t let leave. Enter Francine Shaw, an American so completely apart from all the others. She completes him, and makes him a better man. The fact that they find themselves effortlessly working together is almost a foreshadowing of their future partnership. Aside from the beauty of Chance & Franny, I found myself glued to every page for a glimpse of bachelor Xander MacCauley. Reuniting with him, and glorying in all the nods to his future marital bliss was delicious. His firm disapproval of his friends love life’s made me chuckle in delight knowing that he will be the worst of them all. I could not have asked for a better addition in our delightful Duchess Society! Tracy Sumner has completely captivated me with this series!

The Countess’ Christmas Groom by Fenna Edgewood

An endearing story that sinks deep into the heart. Katherine Blakeley made a poor choice in her first marriage and has paid the price dearly. Broken and beaten down, she has retreated from life content to be just her and her son, as content as is possible anyway. Her family tries to pull her out of her misery with a house party, but Kat is no longer a part of that world. When Ashley Spencer is taken from the stables and forced to serve as a footman, he never would’ve suspected what he would find in the manor. It takes only one moment for him to fall. The story the follows is a beautiful second chance romance. Ash is everything kind & gentle, patient & loving, both with Kat & her son, Oliver. There were so many moments that touched me on such a deep level. But his declaration…swoon! He is everything Kat has always deserved and seeing her family support it proves what a wonderful family the Blakeley’s are. I am eager to read the next books in this series.

A Very Daring Christmas by Charlie Lane

Two souls kept apart by two warring nations- society & propriety. Love that gave me all the butterflies, feasting on the tensions of angst and isolation.
Phillippa Hampton has never liked crowds, she shies away from everyone and everything until she meets the Dowagers handsome steward. Bram opens a side of Pippa that she never lets free, her naughty side. Kept locked inside never daring. But his love forces her to dare. To dare to be herself, to dare to defy the dowager and claim her own happiness.
This story fills you with light, a tender joy that is unmatched. I found myself burrowing deep into the story, like a cozy blanket revelling in each of their tender moments. I knew Pippa was a character I could relate to. One who shies away from people, but at her core loves her dear ones and embraces her naughty, teasing nature. I was overjoyed by their happiness. Underneath that love story was another story of a cantankerous Dowager who rules over all. She loves her family, and wants the best for them but is clouded by her own past. Her and Bram’s teasing relationship, brought me great joy. He proved to her that love is worth the risk. 💕

What do you get when you take seven of the very best historical romance writers coming together for a compilation of wonderful Christmas stories, each one a five star in its own right? You get one fabulous read at a very low price! I loved this collection! “The Governess Gamble” by Tracy Sumner was pure delight. This spicy little American heiress takes on this oh so arrogant Viscount and the sparks fly. Such clever and witty banter. Well done!

Seven charming love stories...a wonderful pre-Christmas read. Three of the authors were new for me, and this was probably the best way of being introduced to their writing. Definitely recommended reading!

This anthology has everything for every regency romance lover. There were several stories written by my favorite authors, being prequel to series I had previously read. These were a real joy to me! I prefer my stories with heat, so the clean ones, albeit lovely, have left me wanting. A very enjoyable set of books: you are absolutely certain to fall for those!

Once Upon an Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss: A Whickertons in Love Novella by Bree Wolf

FIVE STARS

This was a short, fun read and the introduction to the Whickerton series.

Edith wants to help her friend, Adele, out of a betrothal that the fathers had made for the children when they were wee babes. Adele hardly knows the guy and finds out quickly that she has nothing in common with him. He’s a bore to her, although he is a good man. There’s just no chemistry between them.

Edith is working her matchmaking magic and involves Jasper, who made a promise to his father while his father was on his deathbed that he’d marry within a year. That year is almost up and there isn’t a bride in sight. His mother is hounding him about it while she comes down on Jasper’s sister for being a wallflower. That part was pretty sad until it wasn’t. But Jasper’s friend Andrew is at the same house party and is prodding Jasper on, too. I got a kick out of Andrew. Everybody wanted Jasper to get married.

This is a light-hearted, whimsical story with a cast of characters that will make you smile, laugh, and even cheer. I loved Edith and her cleverness and how she involved the unwitting Jasper. I loved feeling them fall in love and adored the happiest of endings.

A Diamond for Christmas: Prequel to the Diamond of the First Water Series by Sydney Jane Baily

FIVE STARS

Caroline Chimes is at a ball when Geoffrey Diamond runs into her, nearly knocking her down. It wasn’t his best moment and it made him look clumsy, but when he put his hands on her shoulders to steady her, it was fireworks for both of them.

This story is loosely based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, thankfully without the tragic ending of that play, but they did have their obstacles. Their parents were the biggest, especially her mother who was overprotective and made it clear that there was no way Caroline would ever be permitted to marry a Diamond, scumbags that they were (my own words there). Lady Diamond had me laughing more than once when she spoke of Lady Chime, Caroline’s mother. It was a feud between the two families.

This was a fun read, although it wasn’t fun on every page. It did have some angst to it, but not a lot. The humor was great. The situations were realistic. The love scenes were fade-to-black. The characters were phenomenal. I loved them and I love this story.

I will definitely be checking out the Diamond series.

The Governess Gamble: A Duchess Society Series Novella by Tracy Sumner

FIVE STARS

Francine is an American heiress in England with her chaperone, Ada. She has a ruined reputation in America and her father has sent her off to marry a baron, who has no interest in her other than her money. She’s okay with that since she gets to continue to do what she wants to do, pursue her art, and live as a married spinster.

Chance is broke viscount who is a renowned rake. He’s as handsome as all get out and finding women has never been a problem for him. With a new ward to take care of, a six-year-old girl, he’s in need of a governess. He’s got no experience with girls. His only experience was with his younger brother, who is older than six and doesn’t seem to have a lot of sense. Chance is struggling financially and with such short notice, he doesn’t have much choice but to accept Franny when she showed up at his door.

The arrangement is to be for just two weeks. What can possibly happen in that short amount of time? A LOT!

This was a great read. I loved all the characters, but the chemistry between Chance and Franny was tangible. It screamed from the screen. I loved how they fought their mutual attraction, the things they said to each other, and the sometimes witty banter. It all worked.

I know this is a Christmas anthology and the stories all have a Christmas theme, but this particular story wasn’t over the top with it. Christmas was a thing, of course, but it didn’t rule the story. I’m grateful for that.

Excellent read.

*Franny is a plus size gal, if you’re looking for that in a story

The Countess’s Christmas Groom: Prequel to the Blakely Manor Series by Fenna Edgewood

FOUR STARS

This was far from being a bad book. It just didn’t fire on all cylinders for me. I liked the class difference (she is a countess, he a groomsman) and the fact that she was seven years older than he. I liked that Katherine was a widow with a son and that their only escape from the brute was his untimely death. People thought she’d killed him and the rumors ensued, but that just goes to show what happens when people don’t check their facts and assume too much.

Ash was above all of that. He fell head-over-heel in love with Kat and was very good to her son. I liked his frank nature and the no-holds-barred when it came to declaring his love for a woman who was above him. It didn’t matter to either of them nor anybody. It was just accepted.

Maybe that’s where the story lost me. There was no angst or drama with the reality that countesses didn’t marry groomsmen or any servants. They may have had rendezvous and clandestine trysts, but marriage wasn’t usually on the table without a lot of discussion, debate, and societal repercussions, whether she is a widow or not.

Regardless, the story was pretty good. I liked Kat. I liked Ash. I liked them as individuals and I liked them together. The pace was even and the one love scene was PG13.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

A Very Daring Christmas: A Novella to the Debutante Series by Charlie Lane

FIVE STARS

This is another mixed class trope and one I so enjoyed. Bram is a steward for a wealthy, dour dowager with an incredible mean streak. She caught him and her granddaughter, Pippa, in a compromising position and sent her back to London from Scotland. She made it clear to Bram that the only reason he got to keep his position was because he was handsome. He was, but he was also good at his job. Never mind that, though. It was all about Pippa marrying a proper man and Bram was not it.

Pippa. Oh, how I loved her. She’s got a borderline case of agoraphobia in that she doesn’t like crowds. She doesn’t panic or freak out, but it’s definitely not her happy place. She’s an artist, is rather reclusive, and wants to go back to Scotland which is her happy place.

It’s Christmas and the dowager is coming to London for the holiday and surprisingly, brought Bram with her. Bram had told her that whatever feelings he’d had for Pippa were gone and promised to leave her alone. Pippa had told herself that he didn’t matter and leaving him alone would be no problem.

But this is a case of unrequited love, much to the dowager’s dismay and she puts an impossible contest before them with one of them losing it all. What a heifer. She was a great antagonist, though. I so wanted her to get hers.

This is a beautiful story with lots of feels, chivalry, a bit of angst, some steam, and an ending that left me wondering just what the hell these two were doing with that old bat.

I would give this more stars if I could.

Gentleman of Christmas Past: Prequel to the Sisterhood of the Secrets Series by Jennifer Monroe

THREE STARS

Agnes Fitzsimmons was a street waif when Mr. Porter took her in and taught her to be a lady. She learned how to read, write, and carry on in polite society. Snippets of her former life came out in the story that made me appreciate her efforts a little more. She’d come a long way in a short amount of time.

Phillip Rutley needs to be renamed to “Bad Luck Chuck.” Anything bad that could happen has happened and he’s about to go bankrupt. He’s doing everything he can to keep his home and pay his employees, but nobody can afford to live without some sort of money coming in, not even him. So when Agnes makes her interest in him known, he has even more reason to get things going again.

I liked this story. She was a kid off the streets and he had no title or wealth. Mr. Porter was untitled as well, which made me wonder if this were a real life setting, would the elite characters really take to Agnes and/or Phillip? Maybe. Not sure. It made for a good story, though.

I wish more time had been spent on character descriptions as what was given to describe what they were wearing. It may have been mentioned what color hair they had and eye color, etc. but I needed a reminder as the story progressed. I like to see who I am reading about. Seeing them draws me more into the story. That’s just me.

I didn’t feel any chemistry between Agnes and Phillip. Maybe that was because they were so formal almost through the entire story. Miss Fitzsimmons. Mr. Rutley. There were no long glances or secret touches, lost looks in their eyes, and the kisses described were like kisses you give your mother.

It wasn’t a horrible story at all and I did like it. I was just wishing for more.

I’m going to share a quick story of my own that pertains to this story. My mom used to tell me a story that while she was in college, she was gathered with some friends in a café or cafeteria and one of the girls spotted a boy in the room and said, “I’m going to marry him.” She’d never met him when she said that, but they did end up getting married. I don’t know how long they dated or if they even had a happy life together, but it was a cool story nonetheless.

Christmas Intrigue: Prequel to the Royal Hearts Series by Meredith Bond

FIVE STARS

What wasn’t to like with this novella? We have a mischievous heroine in Prudence and a stately prince in Alexander. I loved these two until he pulled a bad move, but I’m ahead of myself.

The story opens with Prudence’s parents having an argument about taking her to a house party. Her mother wants her to go because it’s Christmas and her father wants her to stay home because she has a tendency to get into trouble and there was going to be a very important person attending. He didn’t want to take any chances with Pru messing things up.

Moms win every time, I say. But her mom wasn’t necessarily on Pru’s side and humiliated her at the party. I felt bad for her for the way her mother treated her in public. It was atrocious. Heartbreaking, really. This was one of those instances where all that glitters isn’t gold.
Pru is such a sweet person. She’s beautiful on the outside, of course, but she’s even more beautiful on the inside whether she’s in trouble or not. She’s got this great big heart, loves everybody even when they don’t deserve it, and is happy and bubbly.

Alexander is a prince from a small European country and has been asked to attend this Christmas party personally rather than to send a diplomat or an envoy. He wants to get this done and get back home instead of lollygagging around with these people, dancing, eating, drinking, and playing Snapdragon. But Prudence catches his eye, despite the other women openly flirting with him.

That made for a great story and then he got stupid. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

I enjoyed this story very much. However, I do wish there hadn’t been so much “giggling”. It sounds like a bunch of children and I got tired of seeing the word and envisioning a bunch of five-year-olds playing a game. Other than that, this was a stellar read.

As an avid reader of Wolf Publishing authors, I received an ARC of this Christmas collection. I loved it!

Once Upon an Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss - Bree Wolf
4 stars
I love the plot of this book because it’s different. Although the main characters are Edith and Jasper, there are so many other important characters connected to them, and it’s not until Edith ensures HEAs for the two other couples featured in this book that she will allow herself to have her own HEA with Jasper. Meanwhile, Jasper watches her in action, and bit by bit, he falls in love with her because of her quirky, compassionate, generous personality. She makes him laugh and she challenges him, but most of all, she cares about other people (regardless of their status). We should all have a friend like Edith. It’s a sweet story, and I really enjoyed it.

A Diamond for Christmas - Sydney Jane Baily
5 stars
Having read the subsequent books in this series, I was familiar with the story of Geoffrey and Caroline, a prequel. I knew that the Diamond parents (Geoffrey and Caroline) had eloped because their parents didn’t approve. This book sheds some light on why. Can I just say I loved it and leave it that?

The Governess Gamble - Tracy Sumner
5 stars
Tracy Sumner is one of my favorite authors, so I was really looking forward to this. The main characters are Viscount Chance Allerton and American Franny Shaw. There were some hints of The Duke Is Wicked, a 5-star read, Chance and Franny seem destined for the same kind of romance. But there are differences, the main one being Franny’s companion Ada, who is very protective of Franny and cautions her to curb her desire for Chance. Of course, that doesn’t happen and at Ada’s encouragement, Agnes decides to leave Chance’s home when a proposal is half-heartedly offered. This pushes Chance to realize he really does want to marry her.

It was a quick read, and I wish it had lasted longer, but the story was complete so there was no need for more. All of the loose ends were tied up, and Chance and Franny were on their way to HEA. I almost forgot: Ms. Sumner is still building up to anticipation for Macaulay and Philippa’s story. I know I’m looking forward to it.

The Countess’s Christmas Groom - Fenna Edgewood
5 stars
This is a fun and brief story of insta-love between the widowed sister of a duke and a groom. Although my emotions were never fully engaged, due to the brevity of the story, I think, the sense of suspense was palpable. I felt on edge, worrying about Ash and what might happen to him. Also, despite Kat being the one who’d suffered a great loss and experienced great pain, I felt it easier to relate to Ash as a regular human being. I suspect that with time, Kat would have grown on me, but as I mentioned, the story was not long enough for that. I enjoyed it and it makes a nice addition to this anthology.

A Very Daring Christmas - Charlie Lane
5 stars
I have consistently loved Charlie Lane’s books. In this one, Pippa (sister of a duke’s wife) and Bram (steward to the duke’s grandmother) meet when Pippa goes to stay with the Dowager Duchess/Grandmamma in Scotland who has decided to prepare her for her debut into the ton. Apparently, she becomes entangled with Bram and when Grandmamma discovers this, she sends Pippa back home without even the opportunity to say goodbye. She pines for Bram, who has made no effort to contact her, and ultimately decides she was just a fling and she’d best get over him. Nevertheless, she wants to return to Scotland more than anything and aspires to remain a spinster.

Lo and behold, Grandmamma shows up for Christmas and brings Bram with her. Lest the reader believe Grandmamma is secretly looking to matchmake, she intends the exact opposite. In fact, she sets them against one another and announces the winner of the wager will be the one to return to Scotland with her. Bram knows that if he loses his job he will lose his inheritance, a castle near the Dowager Duchess. His dream is to gain his inheritance and ask Pippa to marry him, but she is convinced he doesn’t actually care about her. If he loses the wager, he loses the castle and he loses Pippa, but if he wins the wager, he loses Pippa. Pitted against each other and determined to convince Grandmamma there is nothing between them, Bram decides he loves Pippa enough to help her win the wager even if that means losing his job. The question is, how can they both have everything they want? I won’t ruin the story by giving away the ending. Turns out, true love does win.

Gentleman of Christmas Past - Jennifer Monroe
2 stars
Although I was interested to learn the origin story of Agnes Rutley, I found this story less than enlightening. Despite knowing what happens in subsequent stories re: her girls at her school, I found some of the added details in this story unnecessary. Why do we need to know that the Duke of Elmhurst's wife and all of his acquaintances don’t trust his brother Lord Ezra (while he’s oblivious to his sketchiness)? Why do we need to know that Agnes buys a hand-carved, wooden top from a street urchin? Why do we find out Mr. Porter is gravely ill, but his condition neither worsens nor improves? My feeling was that there were a lot of potential storylines introduced, but few were explored.

So many missed opportunities. I would have liked more details about Agnes’ life before Mr. Porter took her as his ward. There’s no explanation given about Phillip’s family, other than when “Lord Ezra gave him a derisive sniff that sounded much like Phillip’s mother when she was alive.” What?! Why make a statement like this without any context? Why did the three noblewomen (Duchess Elmhurst, Lady Wolcott, and the Marchioness of Barrington) make a point of talking to Agnes at the Christmas party? There was no follow-up on Agnes’ questions about why they had approached her. And there was no explanation for how these women were relevant to the story. Why does it matter that Phillip has given his driver, Lewis Tibbons, permission to work for his friend Lord Dowding? Also, did he ask Dowding for his help financing his project? What’s the significance of Mr. Kenton? He advises Phillip not to invest in mines and it seems like potential foreshadowing, but Phillip quickly dismisses his advice and moves on to the next person on his list.

Ms. Monroe continues to overuse exclamation points! And I continue to find it irritating. Additionally, at one point, Agnes goes to see Mrs. Shepherd. Her companion Amy rides with her in the carriage to get there. When they arrive, Agnes asks Amy to wait in the carriage so she can speak to Mrs. S. privately. When Agnes enters the kitchen, Amy is with her. Then she has tea with Mrs. S. and Amy seems to have disappeared. Then, when Agnes asks Mrs. S. a question, it says, “Mrs. Rutley glanced around the room as if searching for a spy.” There was no "Mrs. Rutley," as Agnes was hoping to marry Phillip Rutley. It was supposed to be Mrs. Shepherd.

There was little exploration of the characters’ feelings, other than to say what they were. No senses were engaged, which left me feeling outside of the story and uncaring of what happened. Basically, this story seems to have been hastily written and submitted too late for a proper editing. It was very disappointing.

Christmas Intrigue - Meredith Bond
4 stars
This was an interesting story about Alexander, Markgraf Kottenfurst of Aachen-Duren, and Prudence, daughter of Lord and Lady Torrington. As an aside, I have to add that I found Prudence’s parents to be overbearing and disgusted by her behavior, and their treatment of her bordered on abusive. There was little they did to show her they cared, so it came as a big surprise to her (and to me) when they gushed about how much they loved her. Please.

As for the plot, Alexander is invited to England for an intriguing meeting with some Englishmen. He doesn’t know what it’s about, but his brother, the Prince of Aachen-Duren, tells him to go. So he does. There, he meets a number of eligible women and many of them practically throw themselves at him. The only one who doesn’t is Prudence, so naturally, he finds her most interesting. There’s more to her than that though. She’s intelligent and curious and doesn’t conform to what’s expected. He finds that very refreshing. But he’s there for business and determines nothing will come of their mutual attraction. I don’t think I need to fill in the blanks. Of course, they end up HEA.

Overall 3.5⭐️ I like novella anthologies. The compact stories cut quickly to the chase, and I can pick and choose the ones that interest me. There were four:

⭐️⭐️⭐️Once Upon an Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss, Bree Wolf
The story I was most interested in reading. Alas, Too much telling and not enough showing. Too many repeated phrases like “narrowed his eyes.” After awhile I pictured puppets not people.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️A Diamond for Christmas, Sydney Jane Baily
The surprise ringer of the collection and my fave. A happy take on Romeo and Juliet that inspired laughter instead of tears. It started slow but improved with every chapter.

3.5⭐️The Governess Gamble, Tracy Sumner
Had read the first book in the Duchess Society series. I enjoyed revisiting Hildy and Tobias Streeter as well as Macauley as secondary characters. What fell short was the over dependence of instalust.

⭐️⭐️⭐️Christmas Intrigue, Meredith Bond
Sweet, clean romance. Pleasant, but there was a lack of chemistry between Prudence and Alexander. The ending felt too pat.

The following are unrated because of themes I didn’t care for, or were a bit outside regency norms that stretched my suspension of disbelief. Skimmed and jumped to the final chapters.

-The Countess’s Christmas Groom, Fenna Edgewood
-A Very Daring Christmas, Charlie Lane
-Gentleman of Christmas Past, Jennifer Monroe

I enjoyed Prudence’s caring and at times free-spirited personality.

This Anthology has many authors with styles ranging from spicy to sweet stories. I skipped through the book to read my favorite sweet authors Bree Wolf, Jennifer Monroe and Meredith Bond. Each story was enjoyable and the first two were prequel stories to some of my favorite series by them. I loved that they all took place at Christmas adding some festive color to the stories.

Bree Wolf's: Once Upon an Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss

After reading how Grandma Edie helped bring about the matches for her grandchildren in The Whickertons in Love Series, it was wonderful to finally be able to see how her own love story came about. What's not surprising is that she was busy helping her friend find her own perfect match even though her family had arranged her marriage from the time she was born. When Edie was invited to the Christmas house party where her friend, Lady Adele Berklry, would finally meet her betrothed, she had no idea that she would also meet her perfect match.

Throughout this story, Edie was as feisty and fun as she is when she became a grandma. I also loved finding out the Whickerton that she married. I loved that she knew the moment she set eyes on him that she would marry him.

Jasper Beaumont, Earl of Whickerton was the perfect man for Edie. He enjoyed watching her do her matchmaking magic and was enthralled with her ability to get the people around her to do what she wanted. I was sad that he was not in any of the books in the series because I would have liked to see him along with Grandma Edie in those wonderful stories.

Jennifer Monroe's: Gentleman of Christmas Past

This is another wonderful prequel story that gives background to Mrs Agnes Rutley in the Sisterhood of Secrets Series. A little more about her background was revealed and how she became the ward of Mr Portor. Agnes Fitzimmons was enamored with Mr Phillip Rutley and she finagled ways to have brief meetings with him always taking her maid with her. She encouraged him even when he thought there was no way out of his financial difficulties.

Mr. Phillip Rutley had a series of financial problems that left him on the verge of bankruptcy. He needed some investors to be able to reopen his mines which he believed would be able to make him wealthy. If he cannot find some help soon, he will lose his estate. His meetings with Miss Agnes cause him to be uplifted and he desires to marry her if he can find a way out of his financial problems. He is grateful that Agnes believes in him as they both have a Christmas wish to be together.

Meredith Bond's: Christmas Intrigue

This third is the prequel to a new series that will be coming out. Markgraf Alexander Kottenfurst was invited to a Christmas House party in England. His brother is the prince of a small principality near Brussels, Aachen-Duren. Alexander is invited by name to act as an ambassador for his nation. He is serious about making wise treaties for his brother and wants to get right to work. His hosts wants him to enjoy the Christmas celebrations as well as the invited guests. While waiting to get to work, Alexander spends some time with Prudence Torrington.

Prudence Torrington has a wonderful caring personality that often gets her into trouble. Her parents are concerned with how she will act during the house party. Even though she tries hard, she manages to get herself into trouble on a few occasions like climbing out of her bedroom window because her mother has locked her in her room. Her actions don't really hurt anyone but they soon capture the attention of Margfraf Alexander.

As these two spend some time together- their feelings start to grow but Alexander is intent on leaving and doesn't plan to take a bride back with him. Will he have a change of mind before it is too late?

I'm looking forward to this new series.

I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest unbiased review.

Bree Wolf's: Once Upon an Aggravatingly Heroic
Once upon a time, our beloved Grandma Edie began her career as the best matchmaker in known history by using her extraordinary talent to bring about her own happily-ever-after...
Determined to perform a Christmas miracle by seeing her friend Adele wed to the man she loves, Edith finds herself distracted from her task by a teasing gentleman with wicked eyes and a devilish smile – Jasper Whickerton

Sydney Jane Baily's: A Diamond for Christmas
In a Regency Romeo and Juliet, heady desire blossoms between a lord and a lady from warring families.
Lord Geoffrey Diamond is the heir to an earldom with dash-fire to spare. There is no lady in London he ought not to be able to woo and win. Except one. Lady Caroline is vexed to learn the only man who makes her tingle is prohibited. Forbidden even to dance with Diamond, she finds herself breaking all the rules in order to follow her heart.
When they take a desperate chance on happiness, will it lead to a Christmas miracle or a Christmas calamity?

Tracy Sumner's: The Governess Gamble
He's a devil of a rake. Can an accidental governess teach him life's most important lesson?
To repair her scandalous reputation, American heiress Franny Shaw flees to London in search of a desperate nobleman with a title for sale. An impulsive decision places her in the path of lonely libertine, Chance Allerton, at Christmastide. Can a make-believe governess teach a wicked viscount a sizzling lesson in love or will it take a holiday miracle?

Fenna Edgewood's: The Countess's Christmas Groom
She is his ideal match. The woman he has been waiting for all of his life. The only problem? He's her servant.
This Christmas, two very unlikely individuals are about to realize they are one another's ideal match. And once mutual desire has been sparked, they will never be parted, no matter the price they must face.

Charlie Lane's: A Very Daring Christmas
Christmas is the most daring time of the year.
Crowded London streets, eccentric shop keeps, violent-minded maids, and chaotic coffeehouses. A daring but reluctant debutant and the steward who adores her will brave it all to find the elusive perfect gift that could win their hearts desires.

Jennifer Monroe's: Gentleman of Christmas Past
A lady determined to find love. A gentleman wanting her hand in marriage. A Christmas story you will never forget.
Miss Agnes Fitzimmons and Mr. Phillip Rutley each have a Christmas wish—to marry one another. Yet with financial burdens threatening to keep them apart, it will take a Christmas miracle to have the happily ever after they deserve.

Meredith Bond's: Christmas Intrigue
Can the joy of Christmas, and a beautiful woman, distract him from his duty?
Is it a recipe for disaster? Not even close. Whether Markgraf Alexander Kottenfurst thinks the spirited Prudence Torrington is naughty or nice will determine if this Christmas intrigue will lead to something wonderful.
A wonderful box set from seven authors, the stories are in fact prequels to their series. I loved how loved characters from each series are given their story. My favourite was Grandma Edie’s story, she was even all knowing as a young woman & her road to a HEA was an absolute delight. There’s also a mix of levels of heat, so something for everyone
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

*I received a free ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review*

There are few things in literature that I love as much as holiday anthologies. I had read books by a few of these authors, but it was so nice to be introduced to new authors as well. Although some are parts of already established series, you do not have to have read any books in those series in order to enjoy these. There isn't a weak story in the group, which is rather impressive because there is usually at least one that I'm not a big fan of.

Once Upon an Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss (Bree Wolf) - This is a 3 romances for the price of 1! Although the primary romance is between Edith and Jasper there are also brief glimpses of the love developing between Adele and MacKinnear and Mary and Aberley. I would happily read stories with these other couples as the main focus.

A Diamond for Christmas (Sydney Jane Baily) - My favorites parts of this book are the final few chapters as everyone meets up at the inn. There is so much humor and heart in these chapters, exactly what you want in a holiday romance. And Caroline and Geoffrey make such a sweet couple.

The Governess Gamble (Tracy Sumner) - This is part of a series that I have been reading since the beginning so it was nice to get a Christmas check-in with characters I have met before. I loved how Franny and Chance (much like characters in previous books) were truly partners and supported one another's work. Franny's relationship with Kat was very sweet. I don't usually like the "governess-single father" trope, but it works very well here.

The Countess's Christmas Groom (Fenna Edgewood) - I think this is my favorite story in the anthology. I'm not sure if a duke would really be okay with his sister marrying a member of the staff, but I'm glad this one was. Katherine went through a terrible first marriage and deserved to have someone love her and treat her well. Ashley helping to defend her and her son solidified that he was that someone.

A Very Daring Christmas (Charlie Lane) - I was glad that Bram pretty much gave up the dowager's challenge right away because he wanted to see Phillipa happy and that Phillipa was willing to give Bram a second chance. I also really liked the banter between Bram and the dowager - it added the right amount of humor to the characters and story.

Gentleman of Christmas Past (Jennifer Monroe) - I have read one of the books from this series so it was really nice to get the full backstory for Agnes. She certainly had an interesting life prior to meeting Mr. Porter. I loved that she never gave up on Phillip and did what she could to help him. As for Phillip, he did have some atrociously bad luck, but I was glad that he didn't get caught up in despair as would have happened in so many other stories.

Christmas Intrigue (Meredith Bond) - This was probably my second favorite story in the collection. The chemistry between Alexander and Prudence was clear from the beginning. Which made you want to smack Alexander over the head when he refused to see that Prudence was so perfect for him.

I only read Tracy Sumner's novella, because that's the reason why I requested this book. So this review and the rating are only going to reflect that story.

And let me tell you, she is slowly but surely making me rethink my statement that novellas just aren't my cup of tea.

This novella fulfills everything you may want from a historical romance. We've got a wallflower albeit strong willed American with a large dowry falling in love with a viscount who wouldn't know love if it stood right in front of him. We get two weeks of sizzling sexual tension before being treated with a very *hot* chapter.

The best part of this book (for me at least)? Lots of Macauley, ripping his friends a new one for being in love, infatuated, married and/or having kids. It's even funnier to think that he will, soon after this novella takes place, fall to his knees even harder than all in the Leighton cluster combined (read the Wicked Wallflower to see that deliciousness happening!). That said, I now need a scene where his friends all take (good natured) revenge on him for his skeptical ways!

So, if I enjoyed this so much, why only 4 stars? I think a few extra scenes to develop their intimacy a bit more were needed. It would've helped to make the big "revelation" sting a bit more, and really make you feel it alongside Chance as a reader, because right now it fell kind of flat because their intimacy wasn't built up enough to make it sting. I also would've liked to have seen a bit more scenes between Franny and Kat, and Kat and Chance. I think it would've made the story a lot richer, and deeper than just a fierce sexual attraction that quickly turns into love.

What I also loved but felt like it could've been explored a lot more, was Chance becoming a father figure to Kat when he's still nursing his own childhood wounds. They say becoming a parent brings those to the forefront and that was certainly the case for Chance, and I would've liked to see him work through that just a little bit more.

All my favorite Wolf Publishing authors in an anthology: a dream come true!!! I loved this collection of novellas so much, mainly because they are all linked to a series I’m avidly following or to a series I plan to start soon, even if they make for gorgeous stand-alones for those who haven’t read the series.
Tracy Sumner’s novella is set in the world of the Duchess Society and features many of the beloved characters of the series. It’s exceptionally well-crafted, with an endearing hero who yearns for love and a bold and sweet American heroine. Tracy is able to touch my heart whatever she writes!
Fenna Edgewood’s novella is linked to her new series and it’s a gorgeous story of class-crossing love with a bit of age difference. And Ash, the male character, is so sweet! A big Greek god of a cinnamon roll! I look forward to reading the other books of the series, because this was really an excellent prequel.
Charlie Lane’s novella is connected to her Daring series and this time her characters take a real dare by falling in love! I loved both the hero and the heroine, but the real treat is the old dowager duchess, who is a recurring character of the series. She is constantly coasting the line between a villain and a positive character and she’s so very intriguing! And in this novella we even get a glimpse into the next book!
I still haven’t read Sydney Jane Baily’s story, which is set into the Diamonds world, but I’ll come back to update my review, because I don’t want to miss her novella!

Naughty of Nice: A Holiday Regency Anthology

Seven stories by seven different talented historical romance authors grace this holiday anthology with something for every reader. Sit down and read them all one after the other or enjoy the pleasure of spreading the holiday spirit out over the season. I have met a new author or two that I will look for to read in the future! That said, with almost half the books read…I look forward to enjoying the rest and will savor them one at a time.

My favorite was Tracy Sumner’s THE GOVERNESS GAMBLE with an American heiress taken to England to buy a title. Franny was not taken with Chance’s title but was taken with him and that the two were so perfect for one another was evident before the end of the story. I have been following this series and loved this story.

Fenna Edgewood’s THE COUNTESS’S CHRISTMAS GROOM was rather improbable in some ways, but a delight as slightly older Lady Katherine and Ashley Spencer found their way together. I loved the way he was with her and the openness of her family. I look forward to reading more in this series in the future.

Another status unequal romance occurred in A VERY DARING CHRISTMAS by Charlie Lane. In this story a steward and the granddaughter of his employer share a kiss that leads to…well…to this story. I had more trouble with this than the previous two stories but found it enjoyable, too.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by these authors? Yes

Thank you to the authors and Wolff Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

The Naughty or Nice Holiday Anthology has a delightful selection of holiday stories to warm your heart on a cold fall or winter’s day. Several of my favorite authors have novellas in this anthology. Class differences and forbidden romance are two common tropes in this compilation so it would be like catnip for you if those are among your favorites.

Two novellas that really stood out for me were The Governess Gamble by Tracy Sumner and The Countess’s Christmas Groom by Fenna Edgewood. In The Governess Gamble Chance gave Mac some stiff competition for my favorite hero of hers. I love the titles of the chapters. Tracy has a way of having her characters unwittingly fall in love that’s so easy to read. One of my favorite parts of the novella was the bargain Chance and Franny struck and its fulfillment. The Countess’s Christmas Groom is a story of class difference and dramatic action. Fenna wrote Ash and Kat’s story so beautifully that I didn’t realize they’d fallen in love until it had already happened. Oh, and Oliver is a hidden gem. I’d love to read his story in the future.

All of the novellas are well written and will be read again closer to the holiday season. Who knows? Maybe they’ll become a Christmas classic like Miracle on 34th Street and enjoyed year after year!

I received an ARC. The review above reflects my thoughts and opinions.

Seven (Longish - approx 15 chapters each) Novellas.

Once Upon an Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss 5* by Bree Wolf - If readers have read any of the Whickertons in Love series, then here you get to read Grandma Edie’s love story whilst she is meddling in the life of her best friend. Delightful.

A Diamond for Christmas 5* by Sydney Jane Baily - A family feud, a chance accident, stolen meetings, thwarted love and scandalous going’s on. Prequel to the Diamonds of the First Water series, a Romeo and Juliet story but with a happy rather than tragic ending.

The Governess Gamble 4* by Tracy Sumner - an American heiress on the cusp of an arranged marriage, an impoverished viscount needing a governess for his new ward and explosive chemistry.

The Countess’s Christmas Groom 4* by Fenna Edgewood - the title really says it all - a widowed countess who had an unhappy marriage finds love with a groom. Find it difficult to believe that her husband wouldn’t have left his son to his brother’s guardianship. Or that on this unequal marriage, the uncle wouldn’t have gone to Court to have her declared an unfit mother.

A Very Daring Christmas 4* by Charlie Lane - Banished from Scotland for an indiscretion, Lady Pippa cannot wait to return to the place she feels at home. But is it the place, or the man she left behind?

Gentleman of Christmas Past 3* by Jennifer Monroe - Agnes knows that Phillip is the man she wants to marry and takes steps to get to know him better but his financial woes may scupper her hopes. Found this a bit slow.

Christmas Intrigue 5* by Meredith Bond - Impulsive Prudence is always in trouble and the despair of her parents. What will happen when she is included as a guest at a houseparty with a diplomatic agenda?

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from one of the authors. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The first story in the Naughty or Nice: A Holiday Regency Anthology is written by one of my favorite authors. Once Upon an Aggravatingly Heroic Kiss, a part of the Whickertons in Love series, is a truly heartwarming story. This series has the best characters, the Wickertons are such an entertaining family! This delightful story from Bree Wolf is infused with warmth and humor. I enjoyed the story of Lady Edith. Grandma Edie has always been my favorite character in this series. It was great to read about the beginning of her mischievous matchmaking efforts. Now, we also know her connection to the MacKinnear’s. This is another charming and romantic love story that I highly recommend. It shows us that anything is possible, especially with Lady Edie’s help!

Would make a lovely gift.
You know if you are really good Santa just might give you a naughty but oh so nice gift. Never fear if Santa lets you down you can just pick up this delightful collection of books by some of the best author’s of Regency pieces. There are seven authors showcased and each has written charming tales to entertain you. I will be honest I grab this arc from Wolf Publishing as soon as I saw it was being offered. A cup of tea a few home baked cookies and a curl up in my favorite chair with these stories were so much better than TV. I did receive a free copy of this book from WOLF Publishing and voluntarily chose to review it.

Review for Tracy Sumner's "The Governess Gamble"...

Oh how I love it when someone like the heroine of this story, Franny, is able to bring a rake to his knees:) I so enjoyed both Franny and Chance's characters, they are so perfect for each other. Franny is not a wilting violet, that's for sure, and in fact she goes after what she wants and she wants Chance! As for Chance, dare he admit he's met his match?!

Very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this story.

I love anthologies as there is something for everyone in them. In this I found a couple of new authors whose series sound interesting. There are some in the book that are a bit spicier than other others but you can always just skip that part to keep up with the story. In my opinion, there really isn't much spice in them but that's up to you. I enjoyed Bree Wolf's prequel where we learn how Grandma Edie started her matchmaking abilities. She is one of my favorite characters in that series. Some stories are longer than others but hopefully everyone finds one or two they really enjoy.

A DIAMOND FOR CHRISTMAS by Sydney Jane Baily - This was a humorous romance touching on Romeo and Juliet, but it did not end in tragedy. Caroline Chimes and Geoffrey Diamond met when he literally ran into Caroline and nearly knocked her down, but he grabbed her shoulders and electricity sizzled for both of them. Their parents would not accept Geoffrey's request to court Caroline, so they had to sneak around. Both set of parents had a hate for each since before the couples married but the feud never died. So, the only way around it was to elope - so off they go to Gretna Green, followed a short time later by their fathers on horseback, and then their mothers in a carriage together. When everyone arrives at Gretna Green, the humor, arguing, romance builds and oh what fun!!!

Funny, complex’s, full, entertaining and romantic … even spicy sometimes !!!
I loved this collection of prequels to the craziest and best regency romance I’ve read recently !!!
Some of them were more enemies to lovers, others a bit more friends to lovers and some lovers to enemies to lovers.
The most different characters involved in their own special love stories that have all the same undertone … the magic of Christmas time !!!
I’m very glad I had the chance to read them all and while some of those sequels I was already familiar with, I truly hope that I will have the chance to get to experience them

Naughty or Nice is an anthology of seven late Georgian/Regency Christmastide romance novellas by relatively well known authors.

They were full of holiday spirit from sweet stories to naughty cross-class ones, all were unique and enough variety for every reader of Regency romance to find stories and series they will love.

All were well written and while most are part of ongoing series the authors gave enough information that I didn't feel lost. And all seem to be brand new stories in their various series.

It was nice to find a couple novellas from series I am reading and a couple new to me series I think I
may look into in the near future. I would definitely recommend this book.
