I.N.E.T.: International Narcotics Enforcement & Tracking #2

I.N.E.T. 2: International Narcotics Enforcement & Tracking

Rate this book
This is book 2 in the I.N.E.T. series and is not a stand alone novel.

Rob ‘Zep’ Zepple loved working for INET and was never afraid to go undercover to bust the drug dealers who polluted the world. In fact, there was only one thing, one person, who scared him senseless. That was Spider, the bully from his youth.

Spider started working for ATF after graduating college, but he still managed to keep tabs on the man he bullied since they were kids in grade school. There wasn’t a single day that Spider didn’t regret what he’d done to Rob Zepple when they were younger.

When they are thrown together again to back up one of Zep’s coworkers, Spider makes it his goal to convince Zep that he’s a changed man.

But for that to happen, Zep must overcome his fear and sometimes there is a good reason to be afraid.

It started out a 3, but ended a 1, so it gets a 2. This book is one of those where the plot and characters are someone interesting (in a cartoony way), so you're stuck reading it even though it's really bad writing. The author also likes to write from multiple points of view, which is very confusing. There are many points in the book where it's hard to track which "he" she is talking about. There are also a distractedly high number of your/you're issues, and just plain weird clunky sentence construction. There are pages of text telling you why the character feels what he does. It's pretty exhausting.

All in all, not bad. It wasn't as good as the first in my opinion but the story kept me intrigued and I like learning a little more about the rest of the team.

Spider bullied Zep when they were younger, but we find out some of it was an immature boy not knowing what he felt, and the other side was a false sense of protection. Spider is not the scary monster of Zep's memories.

I felt some things were just glossed over. Zep's time with the "family", the bullying, even Knight's past makes an appearance but it's gone before we really delve into it. I understand not taking away from the story, but more background than a small flashback gives you a sense of who they are in the present and why.

A good story and I can't wait to read about Hunt and Payne. Hopefully we get more from Knight and Slade too :-)

(Originally reviewed for Love Bytes Reviews with a copy provided by the author for an honest review. Rated 4.5 out of 5.0 stars.)

I really enjoyed this book. It continues the story of our characters from Book One, and adds in some other characters along the way.

Knight and Slade are back, and the story this time moves to an undercover operation with a motorcycle gang in Florida. Slade, along with another agent, Lita, also from I.N.E.T., join forces with an agent from ATF named Spider. I can’t remember if mention of Spider came up in the first book because it has been awhile since I read it, but Spider is the nemesis of another agent at I.N.E.T. named Zep. It turns out that Spider bullied Zep when they were kids. Zep has lived in fear of the guy since then, and Spider knows it. There are always two sides to a story though, and the story from the other side is completely different. No spoilers though.

The current installment follows along as Slade, Lita and Spider go undercover with the Satan’s Blades MC, to help out another I.N.E.T. agent, Payne, who I believe we met in book one as well. He has been undercover for two years with the Blades, but has sent a 911 to I.N.E.T. needing help and possible extraction. As a backup team, Knight, Zep and Hunter are also in town with “James Bond” level surveillance equipment. What will happen when Zep and Spider are thrown together?

Ms. Cothern did a good job at describing the MC and its members, as well as the undercover agents. I found the story to be a believable and easy read…which I refused to stop in the middle of. I believe Ms. Cothern’s writing skills get better with every book she writes and I’ve enjoyed them all.

One note, it turns out that I missed a book she released this summer which told the story of an ICE agent who is also undercover with the Blades. Having that backstory wasn’t essential to this read, but I’m definitely going back and reading it now!

I highly recommend the book. You could probably read this one without the first one, but you’d be missing a lot of background, so I’d recommend reading them in order. The author also clearly states in her blurb that it is not a standalone.

POV head spin

I really like these stories and the guys are great but there is so many changes in the POV during the chapters that you continually get whip lash and totally lost. Normally I would quit and delete but as I said, I enjoy the story.

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

3.75 Stars

I loved the first book in this series which was based on two very strong characters – Knight and Slade. Spider and Zep who feature in this story didn’t have quite the same charisma. The I.N.E.T team has gone undercover to try and close a current investigation and to ensure the safe withdrawal of another agent who has been undercover for the last two years inside a notorious motorcycle gang.

The investigation kind of fades into the background in this one as Spider and Zep deal with some pretty intense feelings and fear – they have a chequered history and have spent years avoiding each other and as avoidance is no longer possible a lot of old wounds are opened up. It’s interesting to see how miscommunication in their actions has impacted on who they are today and how they still feel about each other. When their misunderstandings are dealt with things heat up and one thing Brenda excels at is giving her MC’s pretty spectacular and very hot sex lives!

As always with this author the men here are tough and take no prisoners. This team of men work well and play well together and they have each other’s backs at the most critical times. My only criticism is that it would have benefited from a further proofread to clear up the simple errors. This book sets up the two MC’s for the next book very well and I am looking forward to Hunt and Payne’s story and hopefully we will get to see more of Slade and Knight.

#2 of the I.N.E.T series. It would be possible to read this as a standalone and enjoy it but it really would be better to read the series in order. I enjoyed this book but it didn't hold my interest as well as #1. If you dislike the infantile behaviour of Slade at the start, it's well-worth pushing through the first few pages as the seasoned, responsible agent he is soon makes an appearance. The relationship between Slade and Knight from #1 continues to develop but the two main MCs here are childhood acquaintances in what becomes an enemies to lovers story.
Spider bullied Zeb for years and although the pair have worked together previously, Zep is still afraid of Spider and seeing him again brings back bad memories from his school days. The pair are working together again undercover to ferret out what the Satan’s Blades biker gang are b coming involved in. Are they moving from drugs to guns and people? Zep eventually forgives Spider for past hurts, realising it was part camouflage for Spider to hide what he was feeling and part to protect Zep from worse hurts.
The MC, its members and the undercover agents were believable and the crime mystery interesting. We also learn a bit more about the background for some of the I.N.E.T. personnel, although perhaps not as much as we readers would like.

If you read and liked the 1st book in the series, then you should love this one. It also requires a good deal of belief suspension (like when reading any 007 novel or the like). It is a fast paced, entertaining read about a group of unorthodox undercover agents. If you are looking for something that even slightly seems realistic this is not your story.

I loved getting to see more of Knight and Slade while we watched Spider and Zeb work through their issues; this is all while they are undercover to bust up a dangerous motorcycle club. The story moves at a good pace. The descriptions of the chaotic climax are done well.

The other members of the team are interesting too. It makes me look forward to the third book.

Undercover biker action

Did not disappoint. Lots of action. Steamy sexy times. Great laughs. Continues romance of main characters from the first book Slade and Knight with the additional romance of Zepple and Spider.

Zep and Spider's story is of past bullied and bully. How Spider tries to apologize and receive forgiveness for his past action when he did those things to protect Zep from other. How Zep can forgive Spider after years of the trauma of being bullied. The is so musc attraction between these two characters, they really needed to talk it out.

Great story. Recommended.

This one was more about Zep and Spider.
A motorcycle gang and a setup.
Little bit typical. But well done enough to be entertaining.
Some hot loving. Some interactions between agents and agencies.
Overall a good afternoon read.

Would have given this a higher rating but the errors in basic grammar were so glaring they were a major distraction and simply inexcusable.

I gave it a 1 star because it was confusing, it wasn't much about Zep and Spider but mostly for the other characters. I had to skip and kinda read fast except on the scene of these two.

Fantastic sequel

I thought that this book was just as strong as the first. The writing is engaging and the plot was interesting and fast-paced without being rushed. Zep and Spider came together quickly, but it was understandable considering that they had known one another as young men. The only thing that I thought didn't ring quite true for me was Zep's continued strong fear of Spider even though years had passed since the bullying and Zep was in no way the same, untrained and weak kid that he used to be.

One other note on this book is that while both Zep and Spider are very hot together, this story was much more plot driven and the steamy scenes were more suggestive than graphic, but I thought that it worked well.

Decent

Good but a little disappointing considering how good the first book was. It was confusing. The book switched between 5-6 different characters with no marked differences, the plotline felt broken and not put together and was kinda boring. Which would be fine if it hadnt been so confusing, making me not want to continue the story. Like I said, good but disappointing.

Another winner.

The second book in this series is just as good as the first book, if not better. Fast paced, suspenseful, filled with hot alpha (and alphabet? Sorry, couldn't resist that one) males.
This book delved more in-depth with an undercover operation involving our guys from the first book but spotlighting the angst between Zep and ATF hottie, Spider. These two guys have a negative emotional history going back to grade school. Between the elaborate setup involving numerous agencies working to take down a mc club running drugs, guns and human trafficking, the highly emotional involvement between the I.N.E.T. brothers and especially Zep and ATF operative Spider, this story was more involved and fast paced than the first book that introduced us to the world of the I.N.E.T. and the men who are the very capable backbone of the elitist agency.
It sounds like there will be more books in this series and this reader will be buying every single one!

Enjoyed this hot undercover story

When I saw this book on my recommended list I couldn't wait to read it! Honestly, I had forgotten that I read the first one until I read the blurb. So a chance to catch up with Slade and Knight and the other INET guys thrilled me. This story has plenty of Slade, Knight, Leta, Hunter, and Zep. This story is about an undercover operation involving several agencies. Zep has to face a man who bullied him relentlessly as he was growing up. I enjoyed the backstory and it was good to learn more about Knight's background as well. I also enjoyed the description of the technology the team was using and the casual yet informative explanations of why the agents did certain things too. If you are a fan of Brenda Cothern you will love this book.

This story digs into Zepple's history while it explores the both existing and potential relationships of members of the INET team. I enjoy the way Brenda Cothern explores the dynamics of different personalities and relationships. The kink element is there, but in a bit more subtle way than some of her other books.

I like getting to know the characters, and Garrett Reins does a fantastic job of narrating their varying personalities.

I really wish I hadn't discovered Brenda Cothern's books until she finished writing because I find myself in the position of waiting for the next book in the series yet again from her. Her books just grab you and don't let you go even at the end because you just love her characters. Spade, Knight, Zep, Spider, Lita, Payne, Hunt, Fish, Keg and Rick plus all the others I didn't name. So here I am not waiting so patiently for the next book and there had better be one.

Good read but there was not nearly enough of Zep and Spider. I really like Slade and Knight but since this book was supposed to be about Zep and Spider I was expecting more of them than I got and because they were not the main focus I didn't feel a deep connection between them.

I hope the next book has more of the main characters.
