Wicked with Him

Scandals rarely take place in the center of the ballroom, but on the fringes anything is possible.

From the moment George Sweet stole his intended, Roman Crawford has pursued every possible manner of revenge against the nasty scrub. Though he does have his limits. Debauching Sweet’s sister, a veritable paragon of vestal goodness, is beyond the pale—yet that is exactly what the lady herself requests. Roman isn’t willing or able to refuse when Amity Sweet quite literally begs him to participate in her ruin. But instead of a shy, virtuous flower, Roman finds himself in the arms of a wickedly passionate beauty…who disappears from Town immediately after their tryst.

If public humiliation is the only way Amity can escape an arranged marriage to one of her vicious brother’s cronies, then it will be on her terms. She enlists the aid of George’s greatest enemy, who she’s certain will be happy to see her brother brought low by her corruption. But Amity is no fool. She also chose Roman because of his reputation in the bedroom. She expects to find pleasure in her ruin. She does not, however, expect to find Roman Crawford nigh unforgettable.

When the pair meet again, their wicked attraction is stronger still, but Amity despairs of falling for a man pining for another, while Roman knows any offer for her hand may further alienate Amity from her family. Neither are aware that their worries may be for naught. That their combined fate—and destiny—may already be sealed.

The blurb doesn’t do this little story justice. It was pleasant, lovely and feel good! Roman and Amity were adorable, but the real boss turned out to be the duke! My first, but definitely not the last from this author.

PS - You know what I loved? Amity did not enjoy the crazy, frenzied rabbit sex that most HR virgins seem to love, but she responded to gentle TLC and our super cute hero caught on to that and slowed down…sometimes a woman need it slow people, and that’s that!

Well, well, well. What a naughty and or scandalous book this is. Whew! It was fun. It was hot. It was steamy as heck and I loved reading about Roman and his hips. Honestly Amity knew what she was about and saw Roman as her victim. The book focuses literally on the building relationship between the two and that’s where you will find more of your entertainment. The book is written with respect and wonderful taste. The characters are fun and very interesting, mainly the cousin. I loved the book and I’m excited to read more from her in the future.

From the moment George Sweet stole Melody his intended, Roman Crawford has pursued every possible manner of revenge against George. Though he does have his limits. Then Sweet’s sister, Amity a veritable paragon of vestal goodness requests that Roman ruins her to save her from an arranged marriage. Then disappears from Town immediately after their tryst. Neither expected to find the other unforgettable. When the pair meet again after Roman tracks her down, their wicked attraction is stronger still, but Amity despairs of falling for a man pining for another, while Roman knows any offer for her hand may further alienate Amity from her family.
A new series starter & a well written, well paced story with strong characters. I loved both Roman & Amity & thoroughly enjoyed their journey to a HEA. The chemistry between the two sizzled & their feelings soon deepened. This was a delicious mix of tenderness, steam, humour & two people realising they couldn’t live without each other. The secondary characters were also interesting especially the highly intelligent Algernon, I look forward to their stories.

Wow, this story was so good. Amity Sweet wanted to be debauched to escape marrying one of her brother's friends. She asks Roman Crawford to do the deed - and he does. I loved it when they meet again and fall in love. This is such a wonderful story. 5☆

What a fantastic story! Amity is a true diamond with a mind of her own and an unstoppable plan for freedom. Roman is beyond the pal as the best type of guy with wicked revenge a paradox that sees the worst turned into the best possible solution. The story is a quick read, steamy, humorous and filled with characters with great depth. Can't wait to see what the four cousins get into overtime and the new Duke is my favorite of all. Fantastic, awesome job!.

Lady Amity Sweet wants to be ruined. There is only one man she wants. Roman Crawford is willing and finds once the deed is done he can't stop worrying about her and her disappearance. Seeking answers, he is finally able to find her and realizes she is what he wants.
He just has to convince her of his sincerity. A short read of passion that is unexpected and a bond that can't be broken with love.

Will their unconventional first encounter be the last …

I always look forward to any new release by the author, from her writing style to her storylines, they enjoyably depict the various aspects of a courtship.
Amity has reached her boiling point, she won’t let her brother decide her future. So much, she stages her own ruination. She might be a woman whose life’s outlines fall under the thumb of her relatives, she refuses to bend and allow them to deprive her from her choices.

Roman has lost the woman he loved to another, since, he has made his mission to annoy and thwart all actions entertaining by the man who stole the lady of his heart. Yet he is not a despoiler of innocent misses, but when the sister of his nemesis asks him to ravish her, he is torn between what he thinks is right, his thirst for revenge and this unconventional demand by a Miss who knows what she wants.

This is a very fun read with a kind of backward plot as the heroes start their relationship by the end. After a sensual first encounter, their chemistry is evident and none is able to forget the other but will it be enough when Roman’s course has been for so long set on one direction only. Can he alter it toward a new path…
5 stars for this quick entertaining read introducing a new set of characters.

Tropes: family feud; MFC asks to be ruined; fake marriage
Steam level:3

2.5 stars barely rounded up for the competent writing style, good chemistry between MMC and his buddies, and attempts to build a relationship between the MC's with a couple of quiet scenes later in the book.

On to a bit of a rant:

People sometimes ask me why I like HR's. The main reasons I typically prefer them over contemporary are the elements of escapism and the slow-burn; or at least there are more social constraints involved when a sexual relationship is looming in a HR . Don't get me wrong, I welcome steam, but I want to believe in the romance. That's my jam. The problem here isn't unusual: the author wants to impose modern erotica-ish elements into a historical setting, while still retaining HR basics (the concept of ruination and age of consent are brought up at least a couple of times). The plot and characterization are twisted to try to appease both HR and contemporary romance readers.

So you have a rakish MMC who, in reality, would have been rife with disease during that time period; after a quickie with MFC his mind flits to how many women he's had and how long it took for him to satisfy MFC compared to them. The MFC teeters between sexual mastery and virginal innocence so many times you can't believe her as a Regency miss. And at a certain level the author knows that the reader knows a young virgin at the time wouldn't have demanded sex--she wouldn't have conceived of such a thing. So later in the book it's thrown in that a nasty family member would have had MFC checked by a physician to prove she'd lost her virginity if she hadn't talked MMC into the deed (and don't get me started on the number of times these two do the deed with no discussion of protection).

And, for me, the opening sex scene, which I know is supposed to be sexy, was off-putting. It's consensual (MFC practically begs to be, ahem, ruined) but so mechanical; few emotional elements come into play. And there aren't enough scenes later in the book that convince me that bed-hopping MMC suddenly has decided to give up his lifestyle and has gotten over the woman who married his nemesis, MFC's brother, because he loves worldly-wise/naive MFC.

A storyline tries to unfold in the second half of the book, but for me, because this book is short, it's too little, too late.

There have been books by this author that I've liked in the past, but this one wasn't for me.

Thanks to BookSprout for a copy of this story; this is my freely given opinion.

Roman Crawford is a wealthy Welsh businessman with a grudge against George Sweet for having stolen the woman he considered the love of his life a couple of years prior, and has been engaged in a systematic plan of vengeance to ruin him since. Another opportunity is thrown his way one night at a ball when he is approached by Society paragon, Amity Sweet, the sister of George. She offers him an irresistible offer - an opportunity to ruin another one of George's schemes by ruining her.

Amity has been used as a pawn by George and he was planning on arranging an untenable marriage for her, that would net him prestige and wealth. She figures if she is publicly ruined, she would be able to avoid the marriage and perhaps have some sway in her future, or at least prevent her family from steering her so completely. She is aware of Roman's feelings for her sister in law, and his path of vengeance and decides he would be the best option for her plan - take her innocence, and give evidence that she was ruined, while hiding the identity of who did the deed.

Their interlude goes just as she plans, and she loses her reputation as a paragon in society, while hiding the identity of who ruined her. She is whisked away by one of her relations to start a new life in a small village, before her brother can misuse her in other ways, and both Roman and Amity get what they wanted. Except neither of them can forget the other.

Roman does not Amity about in society after her ruin and cannot find out what happened to her, so he uses his resources to find out where she is, and seeks her out to ensure she is well. He realizes that he has come to care for her and uses the opportunity to seduce her and hopefully winnow his way into her heart also.

This was a sweet, but steamy short story that was a backwards romance. They had the sexy bits first, and for their own self interests, and came to appreciate and care for each other afterwards. But it was an interesting story that was a bit different and quite enjoyable.

Regency Naughtiness

I've read this Regency author for a long time, and I usually enjoy her books. In fact, when they show up on a favorite book review site, I always snap them up if I'm able because I know I will be in the hands of an author who knows how to create memorable characters and good plots.

This book, though, leaves me scratching my head, wondering what happened to one of my favorite Regency authors! Right in the first chapter, the couple has sex in a belowstairs cupboard at a ball! And this was at the formerly innocent heroine’s request, as she wanted to be ruined so she could have a better chance to live the life she wants and as kind of a “screw you” to her horrid brother. I don't know what the deal is lately with Regencies, as this is not the first author I've read in the last week who has the couple get very sexual very fast, which certainly was not the done thing back in the Regency era. If authors want to write stories that border on erotica, go write contemporary romance, where readers of those subgenres don’t mind a one-night stand! While I don't mind a steamy romance at all, this idea of having a virginal young woman ask a man to ruin her is just so beyond the pale. Also, there's lots of crude language used. Again, I don't remember this being an issue for the author before. It wasn't just the occasional swear word on the hero’s part. He also uses crude terms to describe the women he has sex with. One that particularly rubbed me the wrong way was referring to “the act” as a woman “riding his c---” (and did so more than once). Ewww. I will probably skip the others in the upcoming future installments of the series—as this is supposed to be the beginning of one—but I will hope that this author goes back to her nice Regencies, not ones that make you cringe.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

“Wicked With Him” is a historical romance that quickly unfolds in surprising ways. It’s a well-written, fast-moving story by Heather Boyd, and it’s the first book in her new Scandalous Brides series. If this book is any indication, this series is going to be terrific!

Amity is tired of her horrible brother bossing her around and controlling everything about her life. When she finds out about his imminent plan to marry her off to one of his repulsive cronies, she realizes she must take matters into her own hands – and put herself in the hands of a man who will ruin her and make her unmanageable. She approaches Roman with her scandalous request; he already loathes her brother for stealing the woman he wanted to marry, and he’s got a reputation for being talented in the bedroom. Normally, Roman steers clear of marriageable young ladies such as Amity. But he finds he can’t turn her down. The short time they spend together sets in motion a series of events that lead to outcomes neither expected.

After a time of separation, Amity and Roman are reunited because he can’t keep himself away from her. Both feel vulnerable and unsure about themselves and about each other. The sizzling attraction that had been between them deepens and grows, along with their appreciation for one another, their mutual good humor, and their realization that a relationship between them could be a beautiful and lasting thing. I thought this was entertaining and the pages practically flew by because I read it so fast.

Wicked with Him by Heather Boyd
Scandalous Brides #1

A whispered scandalous request by Lady Amity Sweet is a BIG ask that is granted by Roman Crawford. Little did the two realize that a few minutes in a closet at a ball would impact both of their lives so very much.

What I liked:
* Amity: bright, lively, suppressed by her family, downtrodden and perhaps abuse by her brother, wants to avoid being ‘sold’ to her brother’s creepy friend as a brood mare, takes matters into her own hands
* Roman: thwarted in love by Amity’s brother, bent on revenge, an adept and skillful lover, younger son, wealthy, rather taken with Amity, more than his rakish reputation indicates
* Fairbridge: heir to the Ravenswood Duchy, wily, astute, manipulator, has best interests of those he cares for in hand, there for Amity when she needed him – can’t wait for his story next
* Thinking that maybe some of Amity’s cousins might show up in future books
* That Amity’s conniving brother and his not so nice wife were exposed and thwarted and hopefully sent packing
* The chemistry between Amity and Roman and their journey to happiness

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like – especially George, Melody, and the old Duke

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

The new series by Heather Boyd, "Scandalous Brides", starts off with a bang! Sparks fly when Amity enlists her horrid brother's number one enemy, and notorious rake known for his bedroom antics to "debauch" her. Amity wants to be "ruined" in order to avoid being married off by her ruthless brother to one of his awful cronies, and who better to participate in her downfall than the person responsible for wrecking havoc in her brother's life ever since he stole the woman Roman loved? And also why not enjoy being "ruined" by enlisting London's most notorious rake? Amity plans to enjoy her ruining and is looking forward to finding pleasure at the rake's hands!
This was a fantastic start to this new series. You can feel the chemistry between Amity and Roman from the very start. As the story and characters develop sparks continue to fly from the pages and when Roman reunites with Amity in the country cottage it doesn't get much hotter!
I am looking forward to the next in this series, if they continue as this one started it will prove to be a delightful adventure with characters you can love, spicy scenes to get your blood pumping and temperature rising, and a plot that holds it all together, a great escape for a weekend's entertainment.
I recommend and give this one 5 stars. Thank you to Victory Editing Net Galley Group and to Net Galley for the free ARC, I am leaving my honest review in return.

This book is short, super sweet and entertaining. I adored how sure of herself is Amity and how she fights for a better life. Roman is definitely a romantic soul. They work really great together and they have great chemistry. I enjoyed the side characters a lot and I´ll be waiting for the new duke’s story.

Making Things Right . . .

Amity Sweet, recognized for her virtue, is not the compliant female her family assumes she is. When her brother, George Sweet, decides to marry her off to a despicable man, she is resolved to decide her own future. Her brother’s enemy is Roman Crawford, whose chosen lady was stolen from him by George and he seeks revenge. However, he would not sink so low as to go after the virtue of his enemy’s sister. But to his surprise, Amity approaches him to ask him to ruin her so that she won’t be forced to marry her brother's poor choice for her. An even greater surprise to both of them is that neither could forget the other after the deed was done. Will Roman go after her when she leaves town to ask her to be his wife? If he finds her, is she willing to marry the man of her own choice who loves her? Or will she assume he still loves someone else?

This was a captivating story line with an unusual way of dealing with unpleasant situations that need to be made right. The two of them never expected their feelings to go deeper than just messing up her brother’s plans as he had done to Roman. Grab your copy and see how this unusual situation resolves itself.

Such a yummy story filled with hot tempers, revenge and steam! Ever since George ruined and subsequently married Melody, Roman’s intended, Roman has done everything in his power to ruin him. When George’s sister Amity asks Roman to ruin her during a ball where she suspects her brother is going to publicly announce her unwanted engagement to one of his cronnies, he complies. Amity has promised to keep his identity a secret, and finds herself whisked away to the country by her cousin the Earl of Fairbridge. Roman can’t get her out off his mind and sets off to find her. What follows is a delightful tale filled with laughter, caring and carnal pleasures. The two are well suited and very good at dancing around their hopes for a future together. Things get really interesting when Amity and Roman receive a summons from the Duke of Ravenswood. This story has tirades, temptations, twists and touches. It is exciting, endearing and oh so satisfying…..and it is the beginning of a new series! Loved it!.

Roman Crawford has been determined to exact revenge on George Sweet, since he stole his intended. Yet, he did not ever think he would debauch his sister, a veritable paragon of vestal goodness. So when Amity Sweet approaches him to ruin her, he agrees and soon finds himself captivated by her. However, when she disappears from London immediately after their tryst, Roman finds himself desperate to find her. Amy has cleverly decided that the only way to escape her vicious brother and his cronies, will be to escape, after her downfall. When they meet again, Roman realises that he will have to cleverly plan their future together, if he is to safeguard their future.
An entertaining read, that puts a lot into a short story. My head was spinning but in a great way! I enjoyed the cleverness of Amity and the romance between this couple. I look forward to reading more about the Duke and some of the relatives of Amity, in the future.

Love Heather Boyd's historical romances.
Have fallen in love with the new series and am already looking forward to the next book.
Roman and Amity are so sweet and perfect for each other. When Amity asks Roman to help ruin her to escape from a marriage arranged by her brother to one of his unsuitable friends,he is reluctant but does end up helping her.
When Amity disappears straightaway after their tryst,he cannot stop thinking about her.Amity wants Roman, but he is in love with someone else and she thinks he will never give her his heart.
Roman realises he has feelings for Amity, but knows her family will never agree to their alliance. When they meet again will they admit their feelings for each other or will the misunderstandings see them go their separate ways.
Was hooked from the first page and could not put the book down until i finished it.Roman and Amity's well deserved happily ever after was so sweet.

This entertaining, well-written story is the start of Ms Boyd's new series, Scandalous Brides. The plot and storyline were interesting and pulled me in right from the start and kept me engaged till the end. Amity's brother arranges a marriage for her to one of his cronies, and she refuses to go through with it. She believes creating a scandal is the only way to get out of it. She decides that Roman, her brother's enemy and an infamous rogue, is the perfect candidate to help her with her plan. But one unforgettable night sparks feelings that neither of them expected.
Amity and Roman were wonderful together and their chemistry simply sizzled. Amity was a strong-willed lady and I liked the way she knew what she wanted and took control of her life.
This was an entertaining and enjoyable story with strong, likable characters. A wonderful mix of drama, romance, and passion. A lovely start to what looks to be a delightful series, and I can't wait to read the next one!

This is my first book of this author and I was pleasantly surprised by it. The story is quite different from others I’ve read lately and I’ve enjoyed it very much, so much so that I couldn’t seem to put the book down until the end! The characters are awesome, especially the heroine, so “sweet” (pun intended!) but sure of herself and of what she wants from life, and the lovemaking is steamy, but at the same time very emotional, even at the very beginning when the characters don’t know each other very well (And it’s an euphemism! But I don’t want to spoiler it, you’ll see what I mean). I can’t wait to read all the books of the series, even if I’m particularly intrigued by the new Duke…
Highly recommended!

A great start to the “Scandalous Brides” series that you won’t regret reading especially if you love strong female characters who know exactly what they want and how to get it.

Amity is determined to be ruined so she is not forced to marry by her controlling brother. Roman Crawford is a rake, who is determined to ruin her brother. She convinces him to secretly ruin her. Her plan is successful and as a result her cousin whisks her away to the country where no one is aware of the scandal and she assumes a new life. Roman is determined to find her and sets out to find her. Their journey to their HEA was a great read and I look forward to the next installment in this series.

An enjoyable quick read! I have read and enjoyed Heather Boyd before and this book was no exception. Here we have the story of Amity Sweet and Roman Crawford. The premise of the story is a bit unbelievable but it manages to work. Amity is a woman ahead of her time, willing to take big risks to avoid terrible outcomes. Roman is an admitted rake, believing himself in love with a woman (not Amity) who has married another. After his initial encounter with Amity, however, he realizes the shallowness of both his feelings for the other woman and of his recent behavior. Roman's change of heart seems a little quick but it doesn't take away from the story too much. I liked the relationship between Amity and her extended family and look forward to her cousins' stories.

A solid 4 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. The opinions herein are my own.

4-4.5 Stars! Cute, quick read! I really enjoyed reading this one. This was the first book in the ‘Scandalous Brides’ series and can be read as a standalone. This was my first time reading this author but I’ll definitely be checking out her other works. The beginning is a bit unbelievable but maybe women really did stuff like this way back then, who knows. Desperate times and all that. I loved the main characters, Amity & Roman, they were easily lovable and I was rooting for them to get their HEA ending. The ‘sexy times’ scenes were the perfect amount of heat and details, in my opinion. Truly enjoyed this book and definitely recommend checking it out.

Fantastic start to a new series. Fast paced read, wonderful characters and leaves you wanting more! Amity Is desperate, her overbearing brother is forcing her to marry. She has no choice but to plan her ruin. Of course if she goes that route she wants the best Rake to do it, plus Roman being her brother’s sworn enemy is a bonus. Roman hates George since he stole the love of his life and when Amity proposes to have her be ruined by his hands, he can’t resist the revenge on George. And then Amity disappears and Roman can’t stop thinking of her or their moments of passion.

Amity Sweet is determined to ensure that her ruination will be pleasurable, so she sought out the perfect rake…someone her brother despises. Her motive was out of self preservation - she did not want to marry any of George’s cronies with fat bellies and empty pockets. For the past year, Roman Crawford has been steadily exacting revenge on Amity’s brother George for stealing his sweetheart. So when Amity secretly approached him, Roman most graciously accepted Amity’s offer to deflower her.
Read this lovely romance complete with a steamy liaison, banishment to a quiet village, acquisition of a new identity, revelation of a family protector, and discovery by a sorely missed rake who no longer wishes to remain unmarried.

Amity needs to do something drastic to avoid marriage to someone of her family’s choosing so she begs Roman to ruin her. Roman hates Amity’s brother for stealing the woman he loved but holds no ill will against Amity. He agrees to her terms but can’t stop thinking about her and worries when he doesn’t see her for weeks after the scandal. Amity and Roman are great together but are their own worst enemies by not talking about what they really think and feel. I loved this story and couldn’t put it down. It is a quick read that is well worth the time.
