I started this with no understanding of how to garden and felt that I learned enough to start my journey. I think the "survival" aspect of it was cheesy and irrelevant. Would definitely recommend to anyone needing to learn the basics.
Excellent, written to be used no matter where you live!
Your book is excellent!! I grew up gardening in North GA and you are so on the money. Plus you address the technical side which I was never officially exposed to, so I didn't really know/remember why my grandparents did certain things.
One of the things that my family has been interested in with our current economy is gathering food supplies for our family and to learn about having a garden. We in the process of moving from one state to another so at this time we are unable to start a garden, although we have a few pots with herbs and a couple of vegetables in pots. In the future we will be using Beginner's Survival Gardening Guide: Grow, Harvest, and Store 15 Crops to Guarantee Your Own Food Supply for Years to Come to start a garden area in our new home.
I have read the entire book and liked how easy the instructions were to follow and understand from my point of view of having no gardening experience. I liked all the options for using small spaces, and different types of growing areas because we have a small yard at the new house. The table of contents has the ability to take you to any part of the book that you need to see by clicking it and it moves to each subject in the chapters. I hope to use pots for herbs and a raised container on the patio for other vegetables so the ability to move to the book where each topic will be so important to find what I need in a timely manner. This is a great resource for a beginning gardener and it made me realize that I have a great deal to learn to get a garden started when we complete our move.
I want to thank the author, Charlotte Walsh for her organization and the depth of the knowledge that she shared in her book.
Because of recent pandemic this book hits the mark. More people are looking to be prepared for another crisis. I love that this book covers everything from preparing your chosen area to picking plants that grow well together, control of pests, care of seeds and plants all the way to storing the fruits of your labor. It even covers composting for fertilization of plants and preparing for the next year's garden. I think it would be the only book you would need for survival gardening
This is exactly what I needed to get started without having any prior knowledge. This book breaks down the process of starting a garden from the most basic of steps, which I very much needed. It reads with ease and without unnecessary information. My husband and I started gathering the supplies identified and are excited to continue navigating this endeavor with the help of this guide. Thank you to the author for making a resource to help us novice gardeners get started.
I really enjoyed this book! It provides a comprehensive overview of gardening for those at every level. It is well-written and flows smoothly. The author is passionate and engaging with her writing. I was pleased by the incredible amount of detail that was included without seeming overwhelming. I would highly recommend this guide to anyone interested in gardening!
