Brave and Beloved is the most beautiful, thoughtful, and biblically rich resource on women in the Bible I have ever found.Scott Mehl, pastor and author.A bible study unlike any other—women, men, and study groups alike will engage with the amazing ways God weaves the lives of women in Scripture into the redemption story.Brave and Beloved is a beautiful 20-lesson Bible study surveying 30 key women in the bible, from the more widely known Eve and Ruth to the less often studied Deborah and Jael. The modern, eye-catching workbook includes the full biblical text used in the study for deep reading and notation, plus thoughtful questions, prayer prompts, and portrait illustrations of the women. Readers will be inspired to dig deeper into God’s word and see His heart for women and their role in his amazing plans for redemption in a brand new light.
Storrs has done good work here. Her questions and observations have depth and complexity, and it's clear she's thought long, hard, and deeply on these topics. A good choice for group study and discussion.
I had such hope for this Bible study. It’s not bad, but it rang all my pet peeves. I don’t care for topical Bible studies. I prefer studying a book of the Bible. It’s easier to go In depth and view context. I also don’t like a lot of commentary and if it has commentary, I don’t like it presented as scriptural truth. This Bible study checked all those boxes. I think this would have done better as a book about women of the Bible as opposed to being marketed as a Bible study. There is a lot of historical research, which is interesting, but it is presented as scriptural truth and makes it hard to discern the difference for young believers. It has a LOT of commentary that is interesting but it is presented first and it is presented as truth, not presented as this author’s opinion or opinion of commentaries she used in writing this book.
It is well researched and did bring up some things to think about, but its annoying qualities far outweighed its insights for me.
Couldn’t finish this study with my group… just was confusing and couldn’t understand the relationship of the women to me as a young adult. Seems more catered towards women with children
I am usually pretty opposed to women-focused Bible studies, particularly because they always seem to focus on household management, female-centric type applications and not ever on deep theology, but I was pleasantly surprised with this study. While there were some questions that were weaker or felt like it was stretching the topic, most of them were thought-provoking and some downright convicting. It provided a nice overview of the Bible as well, highlighting some narratives that I don't often study myself. Overall, I would recommend to others.
I used this as a Bible study with a group of college students. Storrs offers historical and cultural context while highlighting how deeply loved and valued women are to God’s Kingdom. Each chapter has questions that allow you to think deeply and lead to wonderful discussions. I loved studying the different women in the Bible through Brave and Beloved!
One of my very favorite Bible studies! This was easy to read but with tremendous insights. The layout coupled with her approach was very engaging. I learned this I’ve never known before! Highly recommend for individual or small group study.
This book study was the font used was difficult for some of the people in my book club to read. small print and colored pages/ink can be hard on some people's eyes. The study questions were not always clear and it seemed like she as trying to to pack to many different ideas into a small study.
I really enjoyed this study. I loved how it included the text in the study and you didn't need a separate Bible. I also loved the cultural context and the way it was organized. I found some of the questions to kind of be a stretch but overall a good read.
