The Guild #3

Kill Order

Rate this book
kill order noun a document issued by the Circle allowing for the murder of a mercenary with no agency repercussions. A rarely-wielded tool, a kill order brings the Circle’s full wrath down on its target. Worthless, useless, waste of space. That’s what my father liked to remind me on a daily basis. I was a stain on his pristine reputation. We both were, Moana and I. He taught us that we were less than nothing, we were an inconvenience. Slugs on the cabbage of life. But he was wrong. Because of him, my sister and I dedicated our lives to helping others. Fighting for others who couldn’t fight for themselves. We took risks, gained ranks, and eventually discovered a purpose. My big sister, my best friend… her pain and loss gave us the direction we both so desperately needed. We were a unit. A family. A team. Dedicated to a purpose. My calling in life. Until I met her. How do I tame the deadliest of women? How can I prove myself to her, snaring her in the bonds that have lashed me to her? How do I navigate a partnership with a man I loathe, to whom I’d spent years wanting to destroy? Destroy the Guild. Take Danny home. Live our life. That had been my goal. Now? I want her back. I want the Guild out of her life. I’ll sell my soul and work with my enemy if I have to. Whatever it takes. ◆◆◆ The Guild series is a dark MFM romance and contains scenes that may be uncomfortable or disturbing to some readers. Please use your own discretion as to whether this is the right series for you. None of the main characters are the "good guys" and their moral code does differ greatly from your usual romance heroes. Please don't attempt to hold them to heroic standards, as they will fall short. KILL ORDER is book THREE of THREE in The Guild trilogy.

HOLY SHIT! What an adventure! And somehow, I'm speechless. In a world full of villains and mercenaries, Tate James delivers one of her most poignant and emotionally affecting stories to date. The clever twists, the heart pounding action, the mesmerizing romance, and profoundly complex characters that keep you on your toes- each detail impeccably woven. I'm in awe of this creative masterpiece. And oh my is it wildly entertaining- an adrenaline rush from start to finish. My panties melted, my brain melted, even my heart melted. I'm completely undone and wildly obsessed. Brava, Tate. Brava.

Full RTC closer to release.

Arc review

This series is so different, I loved the way Leon and Kai, both alpha dudes who wanted to kill each other and have Danny for themselves only, worked things out and started to become friends. I loved the scenes where it showed Leon and Kai understanding each other and helped one another, those were my favs. And lets not get started on the plot twists. I hate Tate, she never fails to give me mini heart attacks and in this book I HAD A LOT OF THEM. I finished this book in a day, AND IT TOOK ME THE WHOLE DAY CUZ ITS THICK AF AND I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT. It has a heavy plot line with lots of action and smut. And again, i loved Kai and Leon scenes!

I could read Tate James books for days. The writing is just super engaging and the dialog and character dynamics are always killer.
This is the final book in the Guild series and everything finally comes together! Once the story really takes off it’s just full of action.

Leon and Kai are in fine form, naturally, and throughout this entire series I’ve flip flopped on who is my favorite because I just love them both so much. (I think I landed on Leon by the end) The development of Kai and Leon’s friendship is one of my favorite things about this book.
The spice is everything you want from an MFM and more. Seriously, prepare yourself for the spice in this one, y’all 🥵
I love that Tate writes female characters who are unafraid to embrace their sexuality, and Danny is such a prime example of that. She’s also a badass, and I love her for it.
I also love that over the course of this series you see her let others in, let herself become more than just a guild asset, and actually find a family. It gives me all the warm and fuzzies.

Anywho, as always, Tate kills it with this, and I absolutely loved the ending. If you haven’t started this series yet, definitely give it a try!

DNF at 60 ish per cent.
After a strong start with the first two books of The Guild series, for me, Kill Order was disappointing. I found the book boring, slow and repetitive, and it has no business being over 500 pages.

It’s time for me to admit that Tate James is not my author - me and her, we’re just not a match.

But before I leave, I need to point out that in this book, the finale of its series - Stanley - the f*cking HOUSE PLANT owned by the fmc is mentioned by name 30 times and 7 of those are in the first 20 pages?!

Ugh. I’m so done.

Unfortunately this book just didn’t really do it for me like Tate’s books usually do. I don’t know if it was because I had to wait so long to read the completed series and in that time I heard so much hype surrounding these books or what it was but they felt a bit lacklustre to me.

- Not hugely steamy
- Not hugely angsty
- There was no clear defining moment about the relationship

- Kai & Leon hated each other for far too long and became repetitive

- A pretty damn long book & drawn out longer than it needed to be

- No incredible plot twists like her usual M.O (there were “plot twists” towards the end but nothing shocking that I truly never saw coming)

- Funny banter / dry sense of humour
- Witty one liners

One major thing for me was that throughout this series I felt that Kai was underestimated a lot and I really didn’t like that:
- Constantly undermining Kai and it felt like Danny had put Leon on such a pedestal that Kai could never live up to

- It definitely felt like Danny favoured Leon over Kai (throughout most of the series) and I don’t think that’s fair in a RH / relationship

- I don’t like how Kai is constantly branded as an idiot and useless compared to both Leon and Danny

Oh my.. this book was hot, action-packed, and had some great plot twists 👌👏
The characters and the storyline were amazing! Dark and twisted, and yet very sweet.
Desire, revenge, enemies, humor, and love; what more can a person ask for in a romance series 🫶 - this was such a satisfying ending to the Guild series ❤️‍🔥

This book was a behemoth and completely exhausted me.

The good: I really enjoyed that this series was told in multiple perspectives. I love getting into Danny, Leon, and Kai's heads. The smut was delectable and the overall plot was really interesting! This for sure isn't an easy story, the characters go through the ringer but patience and perseverance is a virtue. We all make it in the end and I'm happy about the way this book wrapped up and the HFN this throuple got.

The bad: This dragged a bit in the middle and felt repetitive. Like I said before, this book exhausted me. It was a freaking journey and the stakes were raised with every obstacle thrown in the characters' way. I was annoyed at how lax Danny and Leon were when they were on the run with all their leaving their safe space WITHOUT weapons. Y'all are top of your class mercenaries and are slipping up this bad?

But seeing two OTT JP MMCs learn to play nice and worship their woman was so fun. I really hope to see more of these three in the future! Along with updates about Koen. Ugh I love Shadow Grove.

“My home is with you, wherever that might be.” Kill Order, Tate James

I remember starting this series off and not knowing a single thing about what I was getting into. Went in completely blind and it’s been a wild ride.

The Guild series is the latest addition to addicting books that Tate has gifted the world. And I’m officially in love with Kai, Danny, and Leon. In that order, lol. Sorry Danny, Kai was just too good. With mercenaries, plot twists, LOADS OF SPICE, and plot that keeps you hungry for more, Kill Order was the finale that we needed.

What I loved most about Kill Order was the character development alongside the plot development. Both went together so beautifully and it created such a unique story to read. AND THE ENDING. HAD ME QUESTIONING EVERYTHING. I was not expecting that ending what so ever. It was twisted, unexpected, and just so satisfying at the same time.

The only reason I’m giving this 4/5 stars was because I do wish the whole ending scene was played out a little bit longer and other parts of the book were shortened (I don’t want to say which parts because it will be a spoiler). But overall this book was as addicting as it was sexy. I’m talking to you, Kai, Leon, and Danny and the suite scene. 👀.

If you haven’t grabbed one of Tate James books, & you love dark romance, & you enjoy big ole plot twists, her books are for you. And they are so worth it. ✨TW though, so just check those before starting. ✨

I really liked this ending to Danny/Leon/Kai's story!!! I think for me, Tate's books are just super fast paced, and since I read these as they came out instead of binging them, I was less invested in the story as it went on. I think for the future I just have to wait and binge them so I know everything that is going on. That being said, for having not read this series in 3 months, I was still easily sucked in by Tate's writing & storytelling, but like I said, definitely would have been more invested if I read the series back to back.

Ohhhhhh I loved this book so much! It was a wild ride from start to finish. Although I'm not surprised by that at all! I adore these men so much and how they treat Danny! Its just so wholesome and sweet
but also so freaking HOT!! The sex scenes were just chefs kiss and I loved every single minute of this book. I'm so sad that it is over and I don't have any new Tate James books to read!

Holy freaking Tate. What was that. I am legit mind blown from that book. From start to finish my adrenaline was racing, heart pumping, and anxiety through the roof because this was the last book of the series and I was so nervous because of how big she is. Like we talking a THICCCC book. So you already know there are so many twists, turns, and uh oh moments. Danny, Leon, and Kai are one of a kind. They are amazing. I love how two alpha guys are at each other’s throat, can’t share, well, don’t know how, but get this bromance going that you can’t help but swoon at. And in true Tate fashion, I’m pretty sure I scared my dogs at least a dozen or so times from screaming because of what was happening. Man, she is good. Like really good. And the way she intertwines things and connects dots. Brilliant. Truly. You know it’s a great series when it still shakes you to your core after reading it. Tate has delivered masterpiece after masterpiece but I’m not kidding when I tell you this was unbelievable. She is a wizard, I’m almost positive. Because that was magic. There is nothing better than a HEA which is why I love endings of a series but man this was HOT. Again, couldn’t recommend this series enough. Naturally, I’d tell you to read MK, then Hades, then this, however, you can totally dive into Danny’s world first. If you haven’t been exposed to Shadow Grove, you need to ASAP. You will NOT regret it.

She thicc, she beautiful, she all I want from a Tate James book.

Holy forking shirt balls. This was so good. It was a great ending to a series with a twist I sorta saw coming only because I trust NO ONE! Lolol
There’s a bit of crack and magic that Tate shoves into her books and this has every bit of that. I was busy this week but every free moment I had, I was reading this.
I gotta say that by the end of book two I still didn’t love Kai but as this book progressed, I thought I wasn’t gonna like him but I do. Leon is still my baby but Malakai grew on me. He’s a meathead but he’s *our* meathead.
Tate scared me for a minute there but it was worth every ounce of stress. 10/10 do recommend.

The finale of The Guild trilogy is here and Kill Order did not disappoint!!

We pick up right where book two left off, with a parting of ways and a shocking kidnapping. And while Danny acclimates to the idea of family, her guys aren’t taking her departure lying down. Nope, Leon and Kai are on the hunt to get their woman back!

Too bad all three of them are always being hunted. But the “who” is the big question, since someone appears to have the inside track and is throwing up smoke and mirrors at every turn. I have to admit, I called the culprit about halfway through, but I still enjoyed how it all played out!

As for the steam, there was a lot - and I do mean A LOT! This book was a long one and took me a bit to get through, but the ending was worth it!

oof.. i feel like i’ve just read two books instead of one - it was that long. unnecessary long, i might add.

koen the brother was cool. i wanted to see more of him and his interactions with the guys. he added necessary humor and variety to the book.

kai was so dumb and hotheaded it was endearing.
“I stormed up after him, hearing a door slam, but I was too slow. The fucker had shut himself in his office and locked the door. Enraged, I gave a roar of anger and slammed my foot against the door… then gave a yelp of pain. Motherfucker had a steel-core door on his office.”
.

i was confused with all the names, they sounded and looked so similar to me: carol, carlos, carolina.

kai - big but stupid. 🧸🧸

“Dare I ask where Kai is?”
I separated myself from Leon and moved closer to Carol’s desk, spotting a pair of legs first before seeing a whole-ass man unconscious on the carpet.”

the way this book had sentence with both “grenade” and “adorable” in it.

“I added two M4s and then a dozen mini grenades because they were freaking adorable.”

perfect ending in my opinion.

“We have to see this bullshit through and live out one of those corny happily ever after sequences. And instead of children, we have a six-foot-four Māori man with a bad temper.”

sick leon was sad but entertaining.

“Leon sighed, pouting up at me. “There’s kiwi in this salad.”

the fine china was gold. i am going to use it in real life.

loved kai and leon’s dynamic by the end.

“Kai glanced over at me, then gave a sigh. “So, I know you like grenade launchers, but what’s your gun of choice?”
I squinted at him suspiciously. “Are you… trying to get to know me better?””

i was disappointed in all supportive characters aside from carlos. sabine just went mia, she could’ve waited literally a few weeks longer and everything would’ve been over. jude - no comments. i wasn’t convinced of her death at the beginning, it was too easy ig. moana - i thought better of her, she had a stronger character when we met her in the first book.

i liked this series. it was more unhinged and funny. and it wasn’t scary revolting as some parts of “hades” series. i wish the last book was shorter bc they were running for their lives 80% of it and it became repetitive. also i would’ve liked the guys to tolerate each other sooner. not a fan of this kind of rh when it’s a competition instead of a cooperation.

What happened? It pains me to give up as I devoured the first 2books but this book lost its way. I jus don’t care anymore it is unnecessarily long.
To be honest I only lasted as long as I did (chp 55) because i loved Leon. He started off at the beginning of the story as a bit weird, sociopathic maybe but interesting. He evolved as a character but still had his edge.
There was jus too much fill in this book. They started off flying back and forward across the world and then on the run in Canada and US. It was a lot of rinse, repeat; get shot, run away, get more guns, not a lot of the story moving forward.
Poor Carlos didn’t get much from his friendship with Danny but seemed to be on hand to provide whatever they needed in record time.
I read others reviews to find out who was behind it all and it was who i expected.
So the MFM relationship, different take that the two alpha males had to take some time to accept the relationship and again I felt Leon was the one in challenging Kai to accept.
However I jus felt icky with a scene in the van, it wasn’t steamy or kinky jus a big no from me.
Not my favourite book of Tates but I still love this world. Hades series has been my favourite so far.

“He’s not in your life, he’s in our life. And no, hell no, I’m not okay with it. But you know what I’m less okay with? Losing you.”

Seriously, this series was amazing. So fast paced with many twists. Yeah it was a lot, and maybe towards the end too much happened too quickly and resolved easily, but I loved it and I loved this trio. From the nicknames they all had for each other to Leon and Kai’s acceptance of each other which then turned into true caring for each other. I usually like ⚔️ but I didn’t miss it in this story. And the spice y’all 😮‍💨

Don’t sleep on this!!

I also highly recommend the audio. I loved Lucas Webley as Lucas in the Hades series but as Leon in this, perfection 🙌🏻

i’m not even gonna lie this series was so so so fucking FUNNNN all around and so much more enjoyable (for me) than the hades and madison kate series.

1. THE FINAL BOOK OF THE SERIES AND IT WAS WRITTEN AMAZINGLY ! This is how you end an action packed trilogy. Usually when I read series in this type of genre, the “big reveal” seems too rushed at the end and the happily ever after is too short. But this was so so so good?????? The entire last quarter of the book was written amazingly paced and tate james quite literally covers all the bases of the plot. There isn’t a single stone left unturned for me (except for a certain character, but i’m assuming it’s bc she will get her own books)

2. i love this realistic trio why choose bc the boys originally hated each other and now they’re buddies 😭😭but also they still pick on each other and banter. they just respect each other a lot more now too which is chefs kiss ! i would’ve been more upset if they just went all lovey dovey cheesy ngl LMAO

3. danny is by far my favorite protagonist of the entire shadow grove books. She was so fucking smart and for what?????? WHY WAS SHE SO SMART. I genuinely applaud tate james for writing a woman in a merc/unaliving business but making it realistic and SHOWING us why she is a mf badass. she has no problem reminding us how danny is HER. her thought processing is top tier

4. oh the side characters ATE. I don’t want to say any of them bc they’re all spoilers in this book but they all were so good. They weren’t emphasized too much to the point of me being like “why is this important and why am i wasting my time learning about them”. But also not too little to the point of me not caring about them. It was perfect perfect perfect

5. God the action packed BOOK. It had me on the edge of my mf seat i felt like i was watching a movie. This was a lot more entertaining than the second book and i Love it idc.

YES IM GIVING A FIVE STAR TO A WHY CHOOSE DARK ROMANCE BOOK. I WAS ENTERTAINED. I CRIED. VERY HARD. NEAR THE END. AND I LOVE EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER IDC. (even you kai, im sorry i strayed from you last book)

Overall, if you have questions about whether or not to start this after finishing the madison kate series (that one was okay character wise i didn’t loveeeee the bully romance) and the hades series (i felt like she got nerfed), look no further and read this one! it’s shorter too!

Oh. My. God.
I’m speechless after reading this book. Damn, I’m really gonna miss Danny, Kai, and Leon.

Kill Order is the third and final book in The Guild series, and let me tell you it does not disappoint! This book is filled with drama, action, deceit, mysteries, and lots and lots of steammm! And of course the plot was amazing. Because ya know it’s Tate James! There were so many things I loved about Kill Order, and one of them was seeing Leon and Kai’s softer side in this book. Danny is still her badass self, and Leon is still insane and extremely possessive. And Kai is just his adorable self with a dash of crazy. There were so many twists and turns in this book that I never expected. And in true Tate James fashion, there are parts that will make you want to throw your book or kindle across the room and yell WTF… Don’t actually do that though… 🤣

For real though, this series was such an amazing one that I will always love and miss. Tate James never writes a bad book. It’s just not possible. As I said the plot was outstanding, and Danny, Kai, and Leon’s relationship is just so freaking funny. I loved how they all got over their bs and finally worked together. Gah, I am obsessed with Kai and Leon! I just had to add that here. They are so possessive and protective of Danny and I freaking LOVE IT!! Also the steam? Crazy!! Like damn.. 🔥🔥🔥

I could seriously go on and on about this book, but I won’t spoil anything. Just go and read this series if you haven’t yet. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? GO AND READ IT!!! Okay, I’m good. 🤣

5 Stars!

Also I just want to say thank you so much Tate for sending me an ARC of this amazing book!

Killer Order- Tate James
As much as I was not ready for this series to come to an end, I consumed this read entirely too quickly. Just like all the books in this series, the action that is packed throughout the book gives the reader an adrenaline rush that has them flying through book. Action packed, full of plot twists, an emotional roller coaster, and adrenaline filled scenes of both combat and spicy scenes were just a few of my favorite things this book had to offer. A unique plot and lovable characters are the reasons this series had me hooked, and the endings that had me on the edge of my seat biting my nails are reasons I always came back to play with these three.
This trio already had my heart completely, but I fell in love with Danny, Kai, and Leon all over again in this book. Danny is a minx who is strong, fierce, deadly, sexy, and a determined firecracker. Leon is cold, calculating, witty, slightly unhinged, and insanely lethal. Kai is hot tempered, a tan tattooed sexy masterpiece, funny, stubborn, and has a sweet side to his killer looks. These three learn to love one another's flaws, become selfless and put one another first, and grow close in a way we haven't seen in the previous books. The dark secrets continue to unravel in this book, but these three provide plenty of comic relief with their twisted teasing games, love for blood, and sick sense of humor. This book could not be more of a perfect wrap up for the trilogy. My heart will miss these characters, and I can't wait to read more from Tate James.

Tate is a queen for sure but how Tate comes up with these storylines or the dialogue between characters is flawless. Absolutely laced with comedy gold moments too!!

I LOVEE the whole dynamics of this series from Danny, Leon & Kai to Stanley to Keon who by the way steels the show. He is absolutely adorable with a mischievous persona that i am all for.

The banter and the dynamic of the guys softening to each other is amazing to read and witness the growth they are making all in the name of LOVE.

This is the ultimate conclusion to this series and my love for these have grown from strength to strength. I wanna sharee all my thoughts but keeping spoiler free!!

Is it a Tate James book if it doesn’t give you anxiety? But like in the best way possible.

Kill Order had me stressed, this group goes through it. But the banter and the relationships and the new characters were everything. And THE SPICE, gotta love it, that definitely helps with the stressful moments.

The twists were insane, I did not expect what was happening at all. I constantly had guesses and wanting answers and by the end I was questioning everything. This book will keep you on your toes for sure, but that’s my favorite thing about these books.

Be prepared for this wild ride. It’s definitely sad that the series is already over, I love these characters and the journey they’ve gone on. Also make sure all your plans are cancelled, I absolutely devoured this book.

OMG!!

Okay this book was so much better than the first two. Why couldn’t the first books be this good??? My only complaint is that this book was too long. I think this could have been broken down into two books. I think Tate could have really broken this final book into two books and played up the final chapters more.

That being said… I really loved how things played out. I’m really glad Danny was able to build a relationship with Carol, learn who her father is, and build a relationship with Koen. And I’m so glad Sabine ended up safe.

I’m still shook by the betrayal of Jude. I wasn’t surprised by the betrayal of Moana. That I definitely saw coming. But not Jude. Like reading Danny’s pain of Jude’s death had me feeling things. And then when we find out Jude betrayed Danny from the start and watching Danny kill Jude had me shook. I honestly never saw that coming at all. Just like I never saw Timothy still being alive. I’m super glad that Kai didn’t easily forgive Moana though. I wouldn’t have.

I really like how this book ended. It was really good. It sucks the first two books weren’t as this one.
