Sixteen-year-old Everleigh Aeress has spent her life preparing to serve the Kingdom of Stone. She's bathed in milk and lavender, worn fine silks, and sipped on vanilla honey chamomile tea to soothe and prepare her body for what's to come, along with the other Stone Maidens who were all chosen at birth by the purity stone. Soon they will all face the trial of Acheron, their Serpent God, to prove they are worthy of carrying an heir to the throne.

First, let me say this cover is beautiful! Second, the story differs from my usual read and isn't too bad. Though this isn't just about dragons, this is about three different places with three different rulers in a treaty, and change is coming. It could be for the better, or it could be for the worse. As our story unfolds and you get to the ending, it leaves you wanting more. I liked getting to know a bit about each character, and the Stone Maidens had a Handmaidens vibe to them in a way. The world is magical, and I like how the characters are different but want almost the same thing in life. You can tell the characters want to be seen as different and not go with the flow of how they live. My only issue is that a scene could have been omitted; I felt it didn't go with the story. We have Kings, Royal Family, Fates, Wolves, Vampires, Heirs, Witches, dragons, and the magic just bubbling to life. Adding it all together makes a different world; you didn't know you needed it. I do need to read book two as I feel there are going to be more bombshells that come to as it did with this one. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 was one for the scene I just felt needed to be omitted; second, at times I felt it didn't flow as nicely as I expected. I had to go back and re-read parts to make sure I understood it. I don't like doing that in books.
Holy Mother! Book 2 …. I need you!! This tale skillfully transports us across the realm, soaring through time with a myriad of magical beings, each bringing another missing sliver of their history pre-war & right back to the present. Be prepared for a darker journey in this age old battle of good vs. evil, magic vs. mortals, with a few taboo & triggering (for some) situations & sensitive topics. All well written & relevant to the era & stories entailed …. never too dark, simply adding to the individual characters’ roles, views, or experiences. This really is a great book!! There is so much happening within each border that kept my attention from the different backgrounds to learn & all the quirky, aggravating, & snarky attitudes involving all characters from royal families to vampires, shifters, fae, dragons, witches, & even mortals being held, brainwashed, & used. We are quickly brought up to date without skipping a beat, & you already know you’re being left begging for more! Book 2 …. I need you!!

An incredibly well developed fantasy with rich characters with intriguing backgrounds, perilous situations, and so my h to learn. I read this in one sitting because I had to know what would happen next. Told in multiple points of views we get a taste of all this strange new world has to offers. Witches, Vampires, Faeries, man , and more waiy in the pages of this must read book! The commentary on purity culture, women's rights, and other modern day issues is beautifully woven in this serious , and I'm here for all of it.
This book pulls you in right away and the various worlds each have their own personality but are connected so well. It gives me vibes of other stories, but not quite. If you love watching the handmaid tale, you'll appreciate the women who still do what they want even though they aren't allowed. And the different worlds that connect together remind me a bit of Sci fi stories like Eragon or "The Land of Stories" books. One could definitely escape to another world while reading this!
Rue Volley has done it again! Not only is this cover beautiful, but the words that are put on paper are everything. Following several different characters, the way it's written is like you get the whole 360 effect and I enjoy hearing from different characters' points of view. The story had me hanging on since day one, I could not put it down.
The stories flowed well. Each chapter discussing what is happening in each kingdom. I’m usually not a fan of the story jumping around and going back. But with Rue? It flowed. It worked.
OMG, this book was wild and yet addicting page turner!!
The characters were simply amazing. I enjoyed reading and getting to know each character from each of the different places they were each from.
The storyline was incredible. New characters to fall in love with and new places to follow and get to know with some wicked twists and turns throughout the book. Volley did it again and created a new world that kept me entertained from beginning to end and I highly recommend this read!!
I generally steer away from fantasy but this world building book captured my attention and the fact it has dragons was a plus! It's well written and who doesn't love a cliffhanger?
I absolutely loved this book! I couldn’t stop reading it. So many twists and turns I never knew what was going to happen next. I can’t wait to start book two.
