The history of beer as we know it is important.
But….getting it right, historical accuracy and intellectual integrity are equally important.
Lambic and Gueze are so gloriously appreciated styles when done well, yet the history has been misrepresented for decades. This book uncovers the truth behind the truth without completely shaking your entire world view.
Humans have been making beer for more than 10,000 years. It’s an important element of our history as evolutionary humans, and a central output of the agricultural revolution.
Just as wine has its terroir, so too does bier.
Lambic and Gueze represent the embodiment of this terroir.
Meert takes great pains to present the most accurate version of a story that has been taken for granted for centuries. None of this will change the absolute enjoyment when a human first encounters a true Lambic and/or Gueze.
Just like anything else, choosing an authentic version is most important. This tome guides the reader toward that most authentic version of the story and hence the most authentic and original Gueze.
Truth be told: every single batch, every single barrel and every single bottle is truly unique, a work of art that is one of a kind.

Дуже неоднозначна книжка. Сподобалася альтернативна і аргументована точка зору на походження й історію, але не дуже сподобався загальний тон. Всім, хто цікавиться цим пивом просто обов'язково читати для загального розвитку і критичного погляду на сучасні джерела і підходи
