Rate this book
What is a woman to do when the man she’s dreamed of kissing for half a century finally says he has feelings for her?

In the past, James saw Callie as the girl next door. His friend’s tagalong sister. A nuisance.

Not anymore!

It took him five decades to wake up to the truth, but now he’ll do anything to convince her to marry him and spend their lives together. So what if they’re in their sixties? Their best years are yet to come!

Callie has harbored tender feelings for James for a long time. But how can she jump into a relationship with him just because he’s opened his eyes and noticed her?

A health-related wake-up call makes her want to change some things in her life. Will James Weston be one of those changes?

Can she open her heart to a love she never thought she’d have?

Mary’s favorite stories are inspirational tales about marriage reconciliation and the journey of grace in lifelong relationships. She's currently writing book #12 in that genre. She and Jason have been married for 40+ years. They’ve been buffeted by their share of storms but by God’s grace have stayed together--and still like each other. ;) Whenever she can, Mary likes to include her love for romance, second chances, and ocean settings in her books.

Besides writing, Mary likes to read, do artsy stuff, go on adventures with Jason, and meet her four adult kids for coffee or breakfast.

Callie's Time

I like the pastor's way of calling this Callie & James' "Third Act"! In fact I think that would've been another good title for this book! I've not read any other of Ms. Hanks' books, but I will now! Such a sweet, frustrating story! It shows how we get set in our ways as we age, & how difficult it can be to break old habits, especially familial habits! Yet it also shows that with God's help, despite our own grudges & stubborn ways, they CAN be broken. If Jesus could show Grace towards us, undeserving sinners, by suffering & dying on His cross to pay the wages of OUR sin, then arising on the third day, how could we do less for others? I struggle with forgiving my ex, who ran away to hide when the "honeymoon phases" ran out. I forgive, then suddenly a painful or fearful memory slaps me upside the head & I have to do it over again. However, I hope that the fact that I can keep on forgiving & not just give up counts in the Lord's Book! I'm glad that Ms. Hanks made a point of saying that Callie & James will have arguments which they will need to work out & forgive each other through life. Forgiveness is not a once & done event. It's ongoing! Besides this storyline, I truly appreciate that Ms. Hanks deferred from profanity & graphic sex & violence. Benjamin's arrival to the house could have been written much differently, yet she left it to our imagination, as she did with the marriage night. Altogether, a very good book with several good messages! A great start for me with a new author! Thank you, Ms. Hanks!

I wanted to like this book since it is about more mature people, and I did like the theme. I liked the people a lot.

However there were several things lacking in this book. Never was the weather mentioned. There is no description of the surrounding area, the homes, etc. There were many dropped threads. For instance, we learn that there will be a Christmas festival and it's a big deal. But then it's never mentioned again. How did it go? Did people like the wood furniture two of the characters made?

There were people and events mentioned that I had no clue about. This is book 1 in a series. Everything should be explained. Way too often did someone "sway their hands". It became almost comical. And smooching. Who smooches in a romantic setting? That's not a romantic word yet it was used many time.

So hard because it isn't a bad story and had a lot of potential with a good editor.

As long as you're aware of these things then I would recommend reading it because it is a feel good story and I did enjoy it for the most part.
