Turochs of Earth #1

Claimed by the Alien Raider

Rate this book
I thought I survived the worst of the invasion… and then he showed up.

Aeko, a hulking alien male, with horns, bright red skin, and a stubborn insistence on calling me his mate.

I’m not his mate. No way. You can’t tackle a girl in an abandoned parking lot and expect her to marry you.

Except Aeko doesn’t seem to understand that. And instead of talking about it, he throws me over his shoulder and hauls me out into the wilderness, away from the tenuous safety of my destroyed town, away from my friends, and away from everything I thought I knew about love.

Claimed by the Alien Raider is a fast-paced alien romance, starring a feisty heroine, a stubborn, unlucky male, and a mating ceremony you wish you could experience!

I made it to 50% before I was thoroughly annoyed by Hope’s internal monologue and interactions between her and the MMC. Within 24 hours she’s like “oh he kidnapped me but he’s obviously so noble and wouldn’t hurt me”. GURL. No. Just no.

When Hope started her shift at the fast food restaurant, she wasn't expecting to be there when the world ended. But she was. Suddenly, a shadow loomed over the restaurant and the customers ran screaming, her coworkers pulling her into the walk-in while screams and explosions sounded in the streets. They survived for a few days off the food stored in the walk-in, but once the power went out, their only food source was cut off.

Hope volunteers to run for home, bringing back food and whatever other supplies she could possibly spare. But luck isn't on her side. Out in the street, she comes across Aeko, one of the aliens who invaded her planet, alongside his band of fellow hulking aliens.

He's claimed her as his mate when he saw her, calling upon his home world's tradition of ulto. He believes that she's cursed like him for having pale-colored hair. But when he sees her green eyes, he believes she's a maer, a bloodsucking evil creature who bewitches and kills men, and he wants no part in completing any part of the claiming. No matter that his pale hair grants him the name of querd and the status of cursed among his own race. Once she drew his blood during his ulto claiming, she became his and he became hers.

***************

Written in dual first-person POV, "Claimed by the Alien Raider" follows Hope and Aeko as they get to know each other and grow closer after a violent first encounter leaves them mated for life. This is the first book in a new series following the alien invasion of Earth by the Syto, an advanced race of aliens who enslave other species including the Turoch (Aeko's race). It offers a lot of world-building in a little space of time and the readers really get a feel for the struggles that Aeko's race suffered under the hands of the Syto while also making the unlikely romance between Hope and Aeko more fleshed out.

I liked Hope and Aeko together and I loved how feisty Hope was for a large majority of this book. It made the hate-to-love direction of their romance more interesting and more realistic (despite the whole aliens thing). Aeko doesn't understand humans and Hope doesn't understand the Turoch, but they are both willing to learn about the other as they realize they are stuck together until one of them dies. They ask questions and they grow to care about each other. They were cute together and you could tell that they come to love each other fully by the end of the book, especially after their gentling (the actual mating part of the claiming). The gentling was definitely spicy. And really enjoyable, which I was glad about since I'm not really into the whole alien smut but I was trying something new.

The pacing was good too. It hooked me in right at the beginning and didn't let go until the end. It went by super quickly (since it's a short book), but it didn't feel like it was rushed or over too fast. It was an enjoyable book and seemed like it was well-crafted and well-built as a dystopian sci-fi experience. And there was just enough action to the plot where the romance wasn't constantly at the forefront of readers' brains.

Romance readers who are willing to give something new a try or those who just love a good old-fashioned alien-human romance will like this book. It's got some good spice, a pretty good romance, and interesting world-building that will keep them interested and intrigued. I'm certainly interested enough to read the second book in the series.

I liked Claimed by the Alien Raider, it was entertaining and a good start to a series. I do wish it had been a little longer because even though the story's flow kept me turning pages and on the hook, the development was uneven for me personally. There's culture clashing between Aeko (H), who was a slave on the invading aliens' ship, and Hope (h), who's a regular ole human. There's also lots of danger, not just from the invading aliens. This is a hate to love, quick read so Aeko and Hope are not happy campers with each other to start but the progression of their relationship goes fairly quickly. It's not insta-love, but the timeline of events is short. Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama, h is not a virgin and H is a virgin.

Aeko was thought to be cursed by his people because of the color of his hair and my heart hurt for how this affected his life. Although there's info on the overall culture of the Turochs (H's people) and some background, I don't recall reading how long he'd been a slave or what his life was like before he was captured. There's background on Hope, but nothing stands out until some of that background leads to problem-causing insecurities closer to the end. I loved that Hope was scrappy, but sometimes she was too reckless and stubborn. She did have a core of inner strength and compassion (it does take a minute for her to feel that compassion to Aeko) that I appreciated. I really loved how Aeko moved from anger towards his newly claimed mate to respecting her strength and being thankful. And once he moved from anger to seduction, whew, the steam was well written. I did wish that Hope focused more on his positive qualities as early as he did, besides just his physical appeal though. I bought more how he could feel love for her so quickly than how her feelings grew.

The setting is a post-alien attack Earth where many humans have been killed or captured. Hope wants to find friends that she was with before she was taken by the Turochs. Aeko wants to help his fellow former-slaves break out more slaves. He knows nothing about Earth (though conveniently is able to equip Hope with a translator early) and she is a little at a loss with all the new dangers and change around them. Both do get hurt at different points in the story, but Aeko isn't abusive.

The book ends on a HEA/HFN of them committed and mated and joining a larger group. It's HEA in the sense that they're going to be together forever, but I was left with a little bit of unease as to what that looked like. I probably felt more unease about that future because of concerns that each had right before the end of the book. Even though the author couldn't do an extended epilogue since the series is ongoing and what the future holds for the Turochs and humans would have spoilers.

A quick read, not a bad little story. Aliens invade earth, capturing most of the population, turns out earth is just another planet for these aliens to suck dry and move on. Enter a different alien, one who has escaped the invading aliens. His species have been slaves aboard the invading ship, now they are free. These new aliens are just looking for freedom, and a place to call home. Oh, and a mate. So look out all surviving human females

Wow

If I'm ever going to get kidnapped by aliens I pray they are like Aeko. Even though he was growly at the beginning he turned out to be a sweetheart. I absolutely loved him. He was so protective and I just wanted to give him a giant hug the entire book.

I really liked Hope. Even though she can't even compare to the aliens In size or strength she wasn't afraid to fight or run. I liked how she was able to put aside the situation she was in and actually get to know Aeko.

Them two had Amazing chemistry. I was rooting for them a lot and now I'm sad the book in ending. I could read another book on them alone again. They are truly meant to be. Both of them didn't hesitate when it came to protecting one another. Aeko has gone through A lot and having a mate that absolutely adores him like Hope does is everything he deserves.

I'm definitely going to check out the rest of the series bc now I'm Alien obsessed.

This could have been longer, the alien's worldboulding was going places, but it lacked some character background. Especially for our FMC. Her past, her family, etc. It was never understood why the FMC wanted to find her colleagues—were they friends? Did they know each other outside of work? At the end, she found one, but, Why did that actually matter? Instead, we got a lot of information about some things that passed in our MMC's life. But that only made me want to know more about those times. How did things actually happen? What about their culture? Not only the mating part.

So, yes, it was doing great, actually. I liked the alien conflict alone. It was intriguing!

But then again, the fact that logical things were never acknowledged dimmed the excitement. For example, Why did nobody try using phones? Did the ships land everywhere? Or was it just one? Did that make the world stop all contact? Where was everyone? We had some glimpses of other situations in regard to the aliens, but nothing about the world's state after the crash of the "invasion" spaceship on earth. Which, okay, was fair. From our FMC's point of view, the story happened in a span of a few days. She was not in a position to do much, nor was she an expert. But this too dulled the experience a little.

So, that's what I think we needed more of, time. Some background, some other situations where we were EVEN more exposed to the reality of these circumstances.

I still think the pacing was good in the first half of the book. It did not seem like the characters were info-dumping on us. But I would bet that a longer story could've potentially given us a lot more depth. The second part of the book was rushed, and it skipped many potential points in which the story could've unfolded to make it ten times more interesting. Not to mention, the third-act break-up was used (a cheap resource if you ask me), and it was applied in a fast-forward fashion. It just didn't work. Making the final romantic confession something less than memorable.

Still, I'm definitely reading the next installment. It has all the hints of being a funny story. And I'm all in for the laughs.

What’s a girl to do when she is working at a fast-food restaurant during an alien invasion? If you’re Hope in Claimed by and Alien Raise you hide in the freezer. Of course, when Hope ventures out in hopes escaping the apocalypse, she meets Aeko, the Turoch, and chaos ensues.

Claimed by the Alien Raider by Reba Max is the first in the Turochs of Earth series. It was a great start to a series that I am looking forward to. While Claimed by the Alien Raider was a shorter read, more like a novella, it was packed with a thrilling plot and amazing characters. I loved Hope and Aeko. While they didn’t meet on the best terms, I liked the progress of their relationship. I liked reading from both Hope and Aeko’s point of view. Hope was hilarious and Aeko was very endearing to me. A couple times I was shaking my head at Hope, but in all honesty the girl was living through an alien invasion so I really can’t blame some of her actions.

I haven’t read anything by Reba Max before but I will be reading the second, Capturing the Alien Raider, in the Turochs of Earth series when it comes out.

Sexy aliens, enemies-to-lovers, and steamy, steamy scenes. What's not to like?

Seriously though, this was a fun read. I love Hope's 'no-bullshit' attitude and the fact that she is clearly strong, but not over-the-top. I thought Aeko matched her well and I quite liked the twist that their race isn't technologically light years past what humans have. The pacing was generally well done and while the plot moved quickly, I didn't feel lost or overwhelmed. I do wish there was more to it though - I had a lot of questions about Aeko's entire history, but I also know this is the first book in the series. Here's looking forward to the next ones!

Thank you Voracious Readers and Reba Max for my copy! I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hope is working her fast food job when Earth is invaded by aliens (the Syto). She and her coworkers hide out in the freezer. Days later when she ventures out to check out the situation, she’s abducted by Aeko, a Turoch, who’d escaped enslavement by the Syto. He claims she’s his mate. But he doesn’t trust her, and she obviously doesn’t trust him.

This was a fast, engaging alien romance. It hooked me from the start. Hope was feisty, and Aeko was noble. They made for a great team.

I thought the plotting was excellent. The author kept the story focused, so the story didn’t feel rushed, even though it’s a novella, and hence, not a long read. It’s really a well-written, well-crafted story.

Aeko and Hope
This is the first book in this new series and it is a great opening book! We get to see snipets of the original invasion with the synts, bad alien that live long livres and like to see the others figth to the death. But then something happens and a new group of aliens manages to escape their captors and free others. This group are our mates material! It's very cute to see the first mating being for an alien that is consideres unlucky. He is for a while, unlucky but he shows his value and things change. A great introduction. Can't wait to read more.

I received a copy of this book from voracious readers and I absolutely loved reading it. From start to finish it had me hooked and already rooting for their relationship from the beginning. I loved how Aeko and Hope worked with each other it was very cute and romantic. The steamy scenes were amazing and beyond hot. I also really liked how the book had a really nice conclusion ready to lead on to the next without any loose strings. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good alien romance.

Great Book!

For a planet that has never really believed in aliens, Earth is attacked and people are being scooped up in nets and carried away. A group of women hide in the cooler of the restaurant that they work at. Food finally runs out and someone has to go outside to find a way for them to escape. You will have to read the book to find out what all happens to the women. Lots of twists and turns.

Bonded

I want to start this review off by saying “I want to be gentled”too! I just adored Aeko and Hope. Aeko was a strong alien even if he was an outlier. And Hope was fierce and stood up for herself. It was fun to read about the learning each other and realizing that nothing else mattered as much as each other.

I'll be honest, when I got it I wasn't expecting how fast paced it was lol
But I would definitely recommend this book to others.
I didn't mind the fast pace the book went though(it only took me like an hour-ish to read), the writing was very well done and I loved every second.
The spice? A solid 🌶️🌶️🌶️
There are definitely more books and I'm eager to go read them next!

Your day just got worse

Earth has been taken over by aliens and you will do whatever it takes to survive. This is not how you saw your day going. Hope knows that she needs to find a way to escape. She didn't see herself taken by a alien. But will she be able to survive what is coming? A good reax

An exciting read.

You have a Human female that has no idea what a good relationship is and a Turoch male that is considered bad luck. This was an amusing first book. The fights between these two was laughable. He is so much stronger and bigger than her. She doesn't have a chance of escaping from him. I look forward to more of this series.

Fast-paced

3.5

Fun, quick little read. I'm glad Aeko was not the invading alien species, that would've made this all much less believable.

I am undecided if I will continue on with the series. If it sticks with me I might download book two eventually.

I enjoyed the premise of an apocalyptic world where aliens come to Earth. The story flowed nicely and I liked the fast-paced romance between Hope and Aeko but there's wasn't anything spectacular about it. Okay romance, okay plot. Okay book.
