ARC Review of 'Heron Mill Tenebris' by K.L. Taylor-Lane
' (...), 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓷𝓸 𝔀𝓸𝓻𝓭𝓼, 𝓷𝓸 𝓯𝓮𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓷𝓰, 𝓷𝓸 𝓹𝓸𝓮𝓶 𝓸𝓻 𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂𝓫𝓸𝓸𝓴. 𝓝𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝔀𝓲𝓵𝓵 𝓮𝓿𝓮𝓻 𝓫𝓮 𝓮𝓷𝓸𝓾𝓰𝓱 𝓽𝓸 𝓮𝔁𝓹𝓵𝓪𝓲𝓷 𝓱𝓸𝔀 𝓘 𝓯𝓮𝓮𝓵 𝓪𝓫𝓸𝓾𝓽 𝔂𝓸𝓾.'
Hunter words are my words - I'm at loss. No other author has done this before, what Taylor-Lane has done with this couple and their story.
And this story is the Book of Revelation. A gospel whispered by the biggest monsters of them all, among the darkest of the corners in the blackest souls.
It's an ode to love. Love larger than life. Love stronger than life. Love consuming heart, body and soul. But corrupting minds, obsessively like a stalker and possessively like a lover.
Hunter and Grace's love is raw, primal, animalistic. Their souls tethered together with the black thread, hearts beat as one, minds transcend time.
'𝓦𝓮 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓸𝔁𝓲𝓬. 𝓦𝓮 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝔀𝓻𝓸𝓷𝓰. 𝓑𝓾𝓽 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝔀𝓪𝔂 𝔀𝓮 𝓵𝓸𝓿𝓮 𝓮𝓪𝓬𝓱 𝓸𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻 𝓲𝓼 𝓪𝓷𝔂𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓫𝓾𝓽.'
'Tenebris' is a gothic ballad about a girl with the mismatched eyes. Grace is still young, innocent and free. But her role in the Blackwell family changed due to her becoming a mother. She matured, strengthen her spine, became more confident, outspoken and determined to protect those dearest to her. She is a loving and caring mother, a perfect partner for Hunter and a beloved daughter and sister of the Blackwells.
I love how the Blackwells were atuned to Grace, watched but didn't judge, let her explore, expand and grow. Let her live freely and yet were there to assist, support and encourage. The Blackwell family was a real gift bestowed upon Grace. And yet she's troubled, she struggles and descends into the abyss.
'𝓨𝓸𝓾 𝓯𝓸𝓾𝓷𝓭 𝓶𝓮', 𝓼𝓱𝓮 𝔀𝓱𝓲𝓼𝓹𝓮𝓻𝓼, 𝓿𝓸𝓲𝓬𝓮 𝓬𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓴𝓮𝓭 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓼𝓸𝓾𝓷𝓭𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓼𝓸, 𝓼𝓸 𝓽𝓲𝓻𝓮𝓭. '𝓘 𝔀𝓲𝓵𝓵 𝓪𝓵𝔀𝓪𝔂𝓼 𝓯𝓲𝓷𝓭 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓲𝓷 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓭𝓪𝓻𝓴, 𝓖𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓲𝓮,' 𝓘 𝓶𝓾𝓻𝓶𝓾𝓻.
The basement scene made my heart burst with pride. How Garce dealt with her inner darkness, accepted and molded it to her advantage. Now, she lives among it, thrives in it and blooms into a true Lady Blackwell.
'𝓢𝓱𝓮'𝓼 𝓪 𝓶𝓸𝓽𝓱. 𝓑𝓮𝓪𝓾𝓽𝓲𝓯𝓾𝓵 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓯𝓻𝓪𝓰𝓲𝓵𝓮, 𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓸𝓷𝓰 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓻𝓮𝓼𝓲𝓵𝓮𝓷𝓽. 𝓐𝓷𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮'𝓼 𝓷𝓸𝔀𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓘'𝓭 𝓻𝓪𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓻 𝓫𝓮, 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓷 𝓯𝓵𝓾𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓻𝓲𝓷𝓰 𝓽𝓱𝓻𝓸𝓾𝓰𝓱 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓭𝓪𝓻𝓴𝓷𝓮𝓼𝓼, 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓱𝓮𝓻.'
'Heron Mill Tenebris' is not a typical love story, but it is nonetheless. It's dark and gory, eerie and sinister, but it's written in the most lyrical way you wish it would never end. And the promise to hear from Hunter and Grace in the next installments of the series, is something you'll eagerly look forward.
