Monica is still in shock from the events surrounding the Spiralflame, but her next trial won’t wait. She has been chosen to participate in a chess tournament held between Ridill’s three most prestigious schools— and that includes her alma mater, Minerva’s! She disguises herself to hide from a certain someone, but not everything goes to plan... What’s more, there may be an even greater danger lurking in the competition. Has Monica’s undercover school life finally reached its end?
The Prince and the Silent Witch go to a book store, buy books/magazines, go to their hotel room and sit and READ. No hankypanky, no one person getting upset over being ignored for a book, just companionable READING until it’s time for bed. So wholesome and SOOOO what I want!
That scene alone gets five stars!
5, I’ve ordered the next two and can’t wait til they come in, stars!

So far, in spite of having a lot of character development and world building, this volume also contained something that gave me a serious ick. More towards the author than the characters.
There is a specific chapter that I found not only unnecessary considering that these characters are in their teens, even if it is their late teens, but also kinda gross? Idk maybe I'm being too much of a pearl clutcher but I really didn't think that part added anything to the characters except perpetuating the idea that "men will be men". I'll still continue to read the series because I'm too attached to Monica and the other characters plus the mystery and intrigue of the overarching plot but yeah, that part made me feel weird asf.
I was surprised by how many scenes and important details from this volume were left out of the anime adaptation. On top of that, the writing quality has noticeably improved compared to earlier volumes, which made this installment much more enjoyable to read.
Volume 3 begins to lean more heavily into the political side of the story and starts to reveal the larger, overarching plot. We also learn more about Felix’s past, which adds meaningful depth to his character. Several new characters connected to Monica are introduced as well, though I do wish some existing characters—especially Cyril—had received more development. He felt sidelined in this volume, as the focus shifted more toward the second prince. No real complaints there, but I’m definitely hoping future volumes give more attention to the rest of the cast.
I’m really looking forward to the next volume, especially since the anime ends here and everything beyond this point of the story will be completely new to me. Yipee.
🦋 thoughts and spoilers.
⁀➷ One of my favorite parts was Monica and Ike’s night out during the festival. I especially loved the scene where he buys her a book without realizing how meaningful it was to her. While part of me wants to see more wholesome moments between them, the more sensible side of me thinks that they’re better off as friends. I’m still unsure how to feel about Felix viewing Monica as something like a pet.
⁀➷ Knowing that the prince used to be a frequent customer at the brothel kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. Even if it’s meant to be expected given his status, I felt that it didn't match the overall tone of the story, especially since it’s set in high school.
storia troppo carina, e con questo volume si conclude la trasposizione animata. L'anime è esattamente uguale alla novel, fa eccezione giusto qualche scena ma pochissima roba.
I loved how it delved into her past with her former friend and how she chose to deal with that. I also like how the larger conflict with the Empire is slowly being revealed. I especially loved the events that brought to light more about her father and which brought him closer to her. There are a lot of mysteries there, too, which is intriguing. The prince’s backstory is terribly sad and makes him more sympathetic, but also brings up even more questions about him. I can’t wait for the next volume to release!
Well truly, the lived for all the Felix x Monica scenes. This book is a pure treat for their shippers (me). Besides that, the political environment is quite intense, so is the intellectual angle. But Monica's character is by far the best thing in this series yet—her self commentary is like the golden ratio she is so obsessed with.
(i hope the star that shone brightly beside her was Felix or Cyril)

Monica Everett is one of the most talented witches of her generation: the problem is that she doesn’t see herself that way. As an incredibly shy individual, she couldn’t bring herself to chant her magical incantations in front of others, so she perfected something new.
She created and mastered the art of uncharted mage craft, something that had never been done before. This was enough to induct her into the Seven Sages, and life has not been as peaceful and quiet as she would have liked since then.
Review:
It’s another fantastical light novel for me! Secrets of the Silent Witch (Light Novel) Vol. 3 was everything I hoped it would be, and then some! As a reminder, I got hooked on this series thanks to the anime. Season One covered content up to this third light novel, though there are lots of details left out. So it’s worth the read!
I thought the last arc was heavy-hitting, but I was not prepared for another look into Monica’s past. While Secrets of the Silent Witch (Light Novel) Vol. 3 doesn’t sit too long in the past, it does help to open our eyes to what Monica has gone through. Actually, it gives two different glimpses, and boy, is there a lot to consider from what we learned.
Truthfully, when it comes to tales like this, I rarely root for the prince to win the romantic plot, but Felix has completely won me over. I’m not ignoring the fact that there’s clearly more going on behind the scenes with his character (which the anime hasn’t really hit upon yet), but I still like him, partially because of his secrets and faults.
Secrets of the Silent Witch continues to perfectly balance this light humor with carefully crafted characters, all of whom live in a fantastical yet sometimes dark world. The magic helps to hide the horror, but every now and then it peeps through the cracks. I am thoroughly addicted to the tale, characters, and world.

This continues to be such an enjoyable and well-written series. The way outlandishly humorous scenes can be interspersed so artfully amongst very intriguing and mysterious lore drops and plot spinning developments is something of beauty to behold. I loved all the scenes Felix and Monica got together in this one, it really laid more groundwork for their background and motivations, as well as setting up some interesting twists for how their relationship might develop. It’s also great to see that characters given brief mention in previous volumes continue to come up in a meaningful way going forward; it gives the story a feeling of being planned out meticulously, which of course makes for even more anticipation for where it’s going to go.
It’s so nice to read the differences in this light novel versus the ones showed in the anime. The anime ended at this point and now I can’t wait to read what’s in store in the subsequent light novels.
Poor, poor Monica, now that her trauma’s being more spelled out in this book. I just want to give her a big, ol’ hug and tell her she’s not alone 🥺
Felix is still shady af, but I find him one of the most interesting characters in the whole series so far. And I’m not sure if it’s an unpopular opinion, but I’m rooting so much for Felix it’s not even funny anymore haha! At this point, it’s still not clear if he’s a friend or an enemy of Monica’s but I can’t stop myself from rooting for them, you know?
More a 4.5 actually, it's still enjoyably entertaining and I really like seeing more of the Seven Sages. We get more hints at the bigger plot and more character dynamics, but tbvh I do not know how I feel about Felix at all! Or anything relating to his portion of the plot.
I do like his dynamic with Monica, but I need to see more of him beyond the "shiny prince with hidden depths" and more of the politics and inter-kingdom/country relationships, please.
This volume was a nice continuation of Monicas story! It had some really sweet moments and a few scenes that genuinely made me smile. I liked seeing her slowly come out of her shell more, and the side characters were so so fun as usual.
Also seeing Felix be a total fanboy was honestly so cute 😭 It’s not super fast-paced, but it has a cozy, comforting vibe that I’ve come to enjoy!!
3.5 stars We get to know a bit more about felix and monicas back stories with new questions being raised. We also meet a new saint. I hope we get to know more about the chess club and more isabelle/monica interactions in future volumes
this books cliché story line was a fun dess up/halloween festival arc. I also love the familiars of all kind.
Ahhhh I loved this! At first it seemed slower or weirdly paced compared to the first two books, and its true that the structure or pacing is a little weird, but the back half is SO GOOD and I desperately want the next volume, which doesn't come out until June 18. Hurry, please!
Really loved it! After playing in the chess competition, Robert was completely enthralled by her. His proposal—“Marry me so we can play chess together forever”—has to be the most logical and romantic proposal of the century! 🤣
Chess competition, Bernie Jones, dragonshifting, Bell-Ringing Festival, the Starsee Witch, Starweaving Mira, Bartholomeus, Ike, two ghosts, brothel, father’s book, one bed trope, pendant
