A creature from another dimension disguised as someone you know and love. How will Francie and the gang catch a killer who’s hiding in plain sight?

A mysterious portal has opened up in town… and for once, Francie isn’t the one responsible. It’s just a run-of-the-mill portal to an alternate dimension, right? Nothing to worry about. Except when a rare book dealer turns up dead and Lizzie is the number one suspect.

Despite an ironclad alibi, there’s a hundred witnesses who swear they saw Lizzie at the scene of the crime. Just who–or what–is coming out of that portal? And can Francie stop it before it invites more of its friends to cross over?

Meanwhile, there’s a catnip dealer out in the alleyways, harming the cat community with his ultra-strong new product. Good thing Kongressman Kittles is hot on the trail and ready to bring the scoundrel to justice.

And if that wasn’t enough, Francie and Hortensia have their hands full bringing a secret vampire plot into the light of day, keeping the Jibbleson Sisters from blowing up the town and repairing all the books damaged by the ghost of Don Quixote as he wages battle against bookshelves and card catalogues…

This is a full-length paranormal cozy mystery novel with restless literary spirits, a fledgling middle-aged witch and a pampered pussycat in a secret supernatural town—plus a recipe easy enough for a weeknight meal yet fancy enough to please the most finicky of felines.

Finally the semi Love triangle is over!!! Ren and Francie ❤️❤️❤️ Francie is determined to clear her sister, Lizzie of a murder charge even though numerous people allegedly witnessed her vomit the crime in public. Together with her snarky familiar, book hero Don Quixote, her sister Winnie, and het mentor who is hiding in plain sight, Francie along with Ren, battles the void magic, and a killer to save her sister, with humorous results and some dates along the way.

A pleasant and amusing instalment in the series. Not exactly great, but I enjoyed it.

I will most likely show up for the 4th book once it is out.

While these books can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading them in order since somethings continue in the next book.

The amethyst necklace that Francie's Uncle Arthur sent her and she's been wearing ever since, is getting heavy. Really heavy. She can't reach Hortensia her mentor on the void magic the necklace contains, and she's getting concerned about it.

Francie has a few errands to run today, the first one is to pick up Sophie's Academy Robes the first day of classes is only a few weeks away. The Azalea the owner of A Stitch in Time, puts her off for a few minutes. She finds a blouse she likes and considers the wait was intentional. When Azalea brings the robes out there's also a book with them. An ancient book. Azalea might give it to the archives, but she wants to know how much the book is worth first. She might consider a hefty check for it instead. Fortunately, Francie is meeting with Konrad LaRue, a rare book dealer right after this.

There's something wrong with Konrad, he's lost weight, is chain smoking and looks generally unhealthy. Yet he insists he's fine. He's also distracted to the point that he didn't even look at the book Francie was trying to show him. Then after a phone call leaves her without eating anything. Her familiar, Kongressman 'Kong' Kittle, showed up at that point and with some bribery she gets him to follow Konrad.

Francie once again tries to find Hortensia but ends up leaving a note then returning to Archives for the afternoon. It's been quiet since Dr Frankenstein found his peace, and Francie was mending some books enjoying the respite. A loud crash has Francie dropping her mending and running up the stairs. The new ghost in the library is none other than Don Quixote.

Francie is frantic to get to her sister, Lizzie. Kong was trying to slow her down a bit, so Lizzie could be processed and booked. It would be easier to get her bailed out then. Kong is very knowledgeable about these things as he's an attorney as well as many other things. I got a kick out of his demands for his retainer.

Now Francie has to find the real killer, in spite of Rend telling her to stay out of it. She also has to find Hortensia, the next cursed book and help Kong with catnip dealers.

There's laughter, intrigue, adventure and romance as the quest for the six cursed books continues.

I can't wait for the next book to be released.

Found this very hard to put down!

Great storyline and I enjoyed the characters very much. Congressman Kittles is a fascinating feline character with a weird personality, but he's definitely my favorite character. This is an excellent and extremely interesting series. I really like it!!!

Audiobook review.

A fabulous audiobook with an ingenious plot, a tantalizing puzzle, an entertaining cast of characters and the perfect combination of laughter and suspense. It is wonderfully narrated by Rachel Leblang.
