Warlock Anna Atticus Stone is on her final year at the academy. As head of student council, academic prodigy, and champion arena dueler, she seems the perfect pupil.

In reality, Anna is grieving, overwhelmed, and so lonely she talks to herself. Above all, she fears assassination if people find out her father’s dying gift to her was a scion. Only seven of these powerful artifacts exist, one in each kingdom—a precarious balance that maintains peace.

That peace shatters when a kingdom steals a second scion and invades its weaker neighbor. Anna feels compelled to act, but that would mean facing her crippling fears, a quest into the unforgiving wilds, and risking her kingdom becoming a target of war.

Driven by the memory of her father, she must find the one thing eluding her thus far . . . courage.

The Arcane Artist is the second book in the Chronicles of Anna Atticus Stone series. Packed with powerful sorcery, ancient mysteries, and epic adventure, the series can be read alone or as a prequel to Sever Bronny's best-selling sagas The Arinthian Line series and the Fury of a Rising Dragon series.

Excellent execution. The Arcane Artist delivers in a big way.

The
Is book is an example of hard work and ambition paying off, and I mean that for both the author and the protagonist.

In this second installment of the Chronicles of Anna Atticus Stone, the story picks up with Anna facing the end of her formal school life, and entering a new chapter she has yet to define, all while carrying the familial burden.

The Author Sever Bronny has put forth his best work to date. Thus far, he has bested the issue with prequels by making the journey riveting despite knowing the destination. My issues with the book are a symptom of the YA age category as there are some topics that will likely never be explored despite there being ample opportunity to do so. Still, I think this is an example of how positive storytelling can overshadow negative category conventions.

This author is taking all of my money and replaces it with a great experience. I've purchased all his ebooks and audiobooks so far, and I don't see that changing any time soon. High Fantasy readers should join the series. It's more than worth it.

Keep these stories coming

Learning more about this world and our favorite characters is extremely enjoyable. My only complaint is my extremely high expectations for epic fights. In the orginal series, the end fight was legendary but the second series and this one haven’t had the same epic fight. This one wasn’t bad and you can blame the over confidence of a higher degree warlocks and a male fighting a girl for the outcome but I’m disgruntled about the way it went down. The special scion power ended up being underwhelming. I guess the ending of the original series has me spoiled for a stupid strong spell that makes the end battle more even. I still don’t see it believable when the baddy was as good as he was. But the set up for the original series end battle was easier to add shenanigans that the audience wasnt privy to compared to this one.
All of that said, this isn’t the legendary battle that we know is coming so I shouldn’t complain. When she fights the necromancer under the school is when my expectations will be through the roof!!!

A 60 year old Gramma of 7 may not be who you would normally think of as a reader of YA books, but this one is, particularly when the books are written by Sever Bronny!
I'm don't remember how I first found Mr Bronny's books, but I'm delighted I did! First with the Arinthian books and now this prequel series about the Grand Dame of Arcanery, Anna Atticus Stone!
The Arcane Artist is never dull or dragging, instead keeping me focused with a depth of story and characters that are often not found in YA books. My emotions were all over as I followed Anna thru this period of her life. Happiness, sorrow, anger, joy... it's all there just waiting to be appreciated in this incredibly well crafted tale.
The only negative I see is that it will be another year before the next installment is available! Oh well, that will give me plenty of time to reread all of Mr Bronny's other books! (Again!)

Anna is at it again!

This second installment in the story of the younger years of the excellent Headmistress and grandmother we all fell in love with in the other series by Sever is by far one of the more action-packed and fun reads I have had the pleasure of this year! The building of lore and intrigue as well as the in-depth discussion of arcaneological theory play well together. There is a little something for every reader in this book from action, to lore, to romance and found friends and family. I can not wait to see what all else we learn along with Sever’s wonderful characters in the coming years.

Better than the first

Better than the first in this trilogy. I'm impressed by Sever Bronny's skill at writing fighting scenes in the story. He is capable of making it come alive and active, keeping the reader highly engaged. He also is very good at world building and spell building. Anna, has aged to eighteen and the challenge is real, with her life and the lives of others in grave peril. This second in the series really manages to keep this reader wandering what the next novel will bring.

The romance really detracted from the story. The first one felt like a slur on Anna's character and the second one practically had her having tradwife fantasies on the eve of battle. I get that the author already wrote a whole trilogy with elderly Anna and her family so he had to work backwards from there, but something about it just sat wrong with me. I was also really frustrated with Ning's behavior and felt like it wasn't consistent with how she acted in book 1. The fight scenes continued to be imaginative and enjoyably gripping even if Anna does have plot armor.

I'm sure I'll end up reading book 3 eventually hoping to see more of the inside of that badass arch structure but I'm not in a hurry. Maybe I just need Moira Quirk to read this series to me to fully enjoy it.

worth every page

As someone who is extremely invested in the lore and technical aspects of arcanery, each book has been a pleasure to devour for the constant trail of new details that all fit together so well. Following Anna has been a true pleasure because the reader is able to follow her own curiosity and attention to detail. I've been very immersed reading this and I can't wait to reread the series again and watch it all fit together.

I am writing this review as an Advanced Reader. I was provided a free copy as part of the advanced reader team

I am a huge fan of the Arinthian Line series and Fury of a Rising Dragon series, and I highly recommend both if you haven't read them already.

This is a continuation of Prodigy of Thunder, which was an exceptional book in its own right. In many ways Anna is an exceptional young woman, and in many ways Anna is a normal, troubled soul, and this book is further evidence that Anna is both exceptional and troubled. There is heartache, triumph, sadness and loss, and Anna grows as a young woman throughout this book. I think that is most important- Anna grows. I highly recommend this book as well as Prodigy of Thunder and the other series that Sever has written

Sever once again gives us an amazing book and leaves us wanting more! Anna's latest adventure did not take me on the journey I imagined it would be, but was a fantastic look at her true growth and depth of character we see portrayed in the other series. It makes us love her even more for the parts of her life that we didn't know she lived.

I highly recommend this book to fans of Epic Fantasy and Coming of Age Fantasy genres. This series and Sever Bronny’s other series (The Arinthian Line and Fury of a Rising Dragon) are reminiscent of the Harry Potter series, and Sever Bronny even says in his blog that his novels were inspired by those books.

The protagonist in the Chronicles of Anna Atticus Stone is a deeply likable and complex character. The strained relationships she has with her family members and teachers while trying to adapt at a school where she draws attention to herself for being incredibly competent make for a compelling story.

Another great adventure!

I have been a fan of Sever Bronny from the beginning series. I really enjoyed getting to know Anna’s character and the spellbinding storyline Sever seems to deliver so effortlessly. I’m thinking I might read the original series again and look for links to this one just for fun xP Thank you for keeping this kind of epic fantasy alive and well Sever!

Arcane artistry at it's best

Another fantastic book by this wonderful author. A huge book to keep you curled up warm with a mug of cocoa and a lap blanket in front of the fire.
A great prequel to Arcane and Burdens Edge series of books and you can read in sequence.

Wow... I don't know how else to say it. So much emotion from this book. You dive deep into Anna's mind and come out crying, laughing, or ready to scream with rage for her. So well written. This book makes you turn through hundreds of pages without realizing it.

Great

Another great addition to the Arinthian series. Anna is so compelling as a character. I think my only criticism is how long it took her to get over her squeamish nature when it came to dealing with enemies.

That seemed to drag out too long. The rest was A+.

A great development in the story, setting up many things referenced in later stories. Not sure about some aspects of Devil's Gate specifically, but in general an enjoyable next step. Can't wait for the final book in the trilogy next year.

I really don't like Anna. She is childish. Self centred whiney and unfortunatly more then half the book is her renting with self pity and self hatred. . Too much of it to be honest.
I kept skipping parts .

amazing

I very much enjoyed it. You get a very good look at how Anna became the woman she is in Augum’s series and you get to see her in a new lens.

Book hangover!

Anna is 19 and ending her time at the Academy in this adventure-filled tale. Wow, is it ever adventure-filled. I knew she would be challenged more than most from reading Sever's previous stories about Augum, but what I didn't expect was a "typical" teenager: angst, doubts, overwhelming feelings at times, and of course, the traumas she suffered affecting her for so long. I both love and dislike that she holds her trauma so close. I love it because it helps her to be the person that she is, keeping her honorable and loyal. I dislike it because, like in real life, it fuels her doubts, feelings of inadequacy, and holds her back in some ways. But, that also makes her sooo relatable and fun to read.
I'm excited for what comes next for Anna. I desperately want to see her find the Leyans. But, I'll happily follow along on whatever journey Sever takes me on. I'm not a huge fan of YA stories, normally, but I adore THESE stories.
