Highland Horse Whisperer #4

A Heist at Harvest

Rate this book
A daring theft. A convincing impostor. And a ubiquitous trifle.

Scottish horse trainer Izzy Paterson has double trouble to deal with: an audacious financial crime, and a perplexing equine enigma. The victims of both mysteries—the unconventional local vicar and a talented teenager—are innocents caught out by the machinations of dastardly villains.

It's a race against time—and some wily criminals—as Izzy tries to track down the perpetrators before the reverend's reputation is ravaged and the village gala day is ruined.

Can she unearth the truth before the conflicted cleric is charged with a crime he didn't commit?

Like her amateur sleuth, Izzy, USA Today Bestselling author R.B. (Roz) Marshall is a dressage-riding computer geek who loves coffee - but there the similarity ends. Izzy is far smarter, and a lot younger!

Pretty much all of Roz's books are set in her native Scotland. She writes clever, witty cozy mysteries as R.B. Marshall, fantasy and romantic women's fiction as Roz Marshall, and historical romance as Belle McInnes.

Another great cozy mystery!🤩

Horsetrainer by day and «white-hat» hacker by night, Izzy Paterson is being kept quite busy when her best friend/room-mate/groom, Trinity, is on holiday in London.

Izzy has several horses to get ready and to show in different competitions. She also tries to see her boyfriend, Craig, in between too.

When her good friend, reverand Brian May, comes to her for help, due to her amazing It-skills, she’s afraid that maybe, just maybe this time she might not be able to track down the scammer in time and get the money back.

On top of this Izzy befriends a young girl, Savannah, in one of the shows and also overhears the transaction where Savannah’s mother buys her a new horse. Just a plain horse sale you would think but Izzy soon picks up on something disturbing. Can she figure out this puzzle too and make things right again? Luckily Trinity is back and can help her figure out the culprits but time is of the essence.

Enjoy yet another wonderful book in this series!

Izzy is embracing her new life in Scotland, working as a horse trainer and getting to know the locals, but also keeps up with her white hat hacking as a sideline. When the trusting local vicar falls prey to an online scammer, he loses the takings from the parish harvest (destined for a poor community in Africa). Can Izzy recover the money before he loses his credibility, and probably his job?
At the same time, while at a horse show, Izzy becomes aware of a different sort of scam – a dishonest dealer selling horses that are not quite what they seem. Should she become involved?
This series is a charming read, with its interesting mixture of crimes and personalities. With well-developed characters and locations, these are beautifully written complete stories with plenty of ongoing threads to lead onto subsequent books. If you like cosy mysteries, animals, gentle romance, and the beautiful background of Scotland, this is definitely a series for you.

Not a single dead body to be found in this book, but Izzy does solve a couple of mysteries.

When the naive minister is swindled by a Nigerian Prince, Izzy manages to recover over £5,000 that the villagers have collected to help an African country.

While competing in a horse show, Izzy witness the sale of a winning horse. She later learns that the horse was subsituted for a far less talented one.

Clever Series

Izzy Paterson is a horse trainer and computer expert. She trains and shows horses, and helps catch bad guys.
Book 4 is refreshing in that no one was murdered. But there were other bad guys to catch.
This is lovely, clever, well-written series.
I look forward to the next one!

I've already preordered this book, and it's only January. It's going to be a long wait until October to see what challenges Izzy's going to face this time!
