If you love second chance romances mixed with football that's emotional, sweet and heart-warming, this will be right up your alley.
Sienna and Beau's young lives have been mixed with pain and grief. They've always seemed to come back in each other's lives when they need each other the most. From childhood friends to reconnecting in high school to becoming each other's first loves, but when Beau leaves for college he leaves Sienna behind, and she's never been the same. When 16 years later, they reconnect again in such a meaningful way. But will time and forgiveness be enough to change the outcomes from the past?
Beau and Sienna's love story travels with past and present timelines, the past told through Sienna's diary entries of a form healing to her falling in love with Beau. The present timeline with Sienna's, her daughter Grace & Beau. As we travel back and forth through the timelines, we see so much nostalgia for their love story of never forgetting the little things and seeing how special, first love can be.
Sienna she's been through a lot, and life hasn't been easy. She's got some walls built up and she's lonely. But she's the most wonderful mother. She would do anything in the world for Grace. Beau is a veteran NFL player, he's tired, he's lonely and the one thing has been missing in his life is Sienna. He's literally Prince Charming, he's gentle, kind and patient and he really brings Sienna back to life. Grace this girl, she's an inspiration. She has the most astonishing heart, I just love this girl, she deserves the world.
Sienna's and Beau I love their bond even as teenagers you could, how incredibly magical their relationship is. They really became this place of healing and happiness for each other, I love that their love story was based in a small Texas town. It made it even more personal for me.
This was an incredibly beautiful, special story. It destroyed me, and then it healed me, the epilogue was perfect. It's about second chances, to cherish each and every day of your life, miracles, love, and wishing on stars.

This was my first ARC and I’m so glad it was! The characters are so beautifully written. I adored all of them! This book had me crying my eyes out, had me so happy I could’ve screamed, and so mad i wanted to throw the book across the room!(i read it on my phone so i couldn’t throw it or i would’ve lol) Sienna deserves happiness after everything she went through being the strongest mom she could possibly be for her daughter! I relate to Sienna’s personality because i am also super stubborn so it was so easy to love her. Beau is such a magical character, you never really think of men actually caring about love the way he does and it was so great to see that side! I adore this book, everyone should read it!

I think this book really solidified my love of second chance romances! I’ve really enjoyed them before, but this one made the hopeless romantic in me really swoon.
Sienna has had a difficult life - she lost her life at a young age, has had to make several big moves away from her childhood best friend and back again. It’s been a rollercoaster. Then there’s Beau, he lost his brother at 15 in an accident that saved his own life at the cost of his brothers. Sienna and Beau had been best friends since they were kids (5 years old-ish) and life had separated them and brought them back together a couple of times. Beau was Siennas first love, but when he has to leave for college everything changes. One day, when they’re both in their 30’s - Sienna is a single mom to a feisty teenager, Grace, and Beau is an NFL Wide-receiver - they meet again in an unusual way.
But does their love change? Did Beau really fall out of love with her or did he just do what he thought was right? Did Sienna ever really fall out of love with Beau? Will they find their way back to one another?

This was truly one of the sweetest second chance romances I’ve ever read. This book alternates between two timelines, where you can see some of Sienna and Beaus life as kids told through Sienna’s diary to her mom, and the present which is told in third person. The love between these two was truly palpable and gave me all of the feels - happy, sad, mad, joy, anger - everything. Just be prepared for all of the emotions, but it’s so worth it to get to see the love between Sienna Clarke and a Beau Walker. Their love was truly one of a kind and something that you can only WISH for.

Dear fellow reader, please do not let this heart wrenching and heartwarming second chance romance pass you by. You can read the blurb, so you have an idea what this story is about. But what the blurb can’t tell you (or doesn’t fully reveal) is the depth of sentiment and emotion and the need for forgiveness, and to forgive, that is expressed (from more sides than what you’d expect).
From the start, the premise intrigued me: a make-a-wish-like charity reuniting two lovers. But holy cow, I did not expect how deeply this would hit. I’m not a mother, but the way Cathryn Carter writes, the emotions Sienna experiences comes roaring through. You felt as though you were taking this journey with her: Sienna as both the mother and the daughter, experiencing the highs, the lows, the anxiety… all there and beautifully but sensitively displayed.
As for our couple, Beau and Sienna, there’s a tangible ache throughout the story; wanting something desperately but afraid to trust it. Working toward that goal, toward trust, Beau works his hiney off; he pissed me off a few times–like he pissed off Sienna–but he comes through. So does she, however; there’s two in the story, after all. Gah! What he does; it was one swoony-worthy moment after another. It also gives you hope that wishes can come true.
A couple of fun observations: I agree with Beau regarding raisins. I also want a freaking Dole Whip! I’ve never had one, but now I need to get one. You need to read it to get hooked–on both the couple’s love story and the treat you’ve (I’ve) never tasted.

Sienna is healing from so much loss and grief, being strong for a child battling an illness, her daughter Grace who gives her purpose. Nothing was guaranteed in this life as Sierra learned first hand. By she’s tired and has lost her spark. Beau, her childhood best friend and first love comes back and will do whatever it takes to prove to Sienna he’s worth the risk. Oh Beau, what you’ve done to my heart. This man!! And Grace, you precious girl. I’m betting on the stars for this one.
The way Cathryn writes trauma and grief, perseverance and redemption. Her words move you. You feel them deep in your soul. This book is just another example of that gift. Highly recommend.

This was my first ARC ever!
I am a sucker for sports romance as well as second chance romances which this book is both!
I am a hopeless romantic at heart and this book brought the tears for me. Beau trying to win Sienna back in some of the most romantic ways made even me fall in love with him.
This book has some heavy themes as well such as depression, suicide, and serious medical conditions with a child.
“I've never actually been afraid of dying. I'm afraid of missing out on all the things I should do while I'm living.”
“I don’t spend too much time celebrating in the moment. Seconds later, you might miss something great.”
While these themes are heavy there is beauty in Carter’s writing in how the characters deal with these issues.

I truly enjoyed this book. Well wroth the read and I highly recommend it.
This book solidifies that I would read any book written by Carter as well. This is Carter's third novel. I also recommend her first series which is also a sports romance too!
Do yourself a favor and go read it when it comes out on February 1st! You will not be disappointed in it!

This book was fine. It moved slow and was boring at times. I pushed to finish it.

This book had me tearing up a couple of times. I think I enjoyed the first half better than the second. I skimmed through for a bit during the second half because a large chunk was more of the same, until it picked up again at the end.
I loved that Beau used his wealth to provide for Sienna's needs and make her wishes come true.. he showed up and stayed.
But, use of private jet still icks me out, yes, even in fiction, because - climate!
Sienna was a kinda foolish for going off Beau at the end there.
I also thought that the diary entries did not always come across as diary entries. The language and prose were more mature than what I would expect from a teenager.
Overall, it's an entertaining read, while being sometimes a tearjerker.
Check TW before reading.

Okay ya’ll…this was the SWEETEST second chance romance i have EVER read!!! I was NOT expecting this read to pull on my heart strings and make me bawl my eyes out 😭
I absolutely LOVED Beau and Sienna - as a couple AND as individuals.
Sienna is brave, strong and an incredible mother.
Beau? Oh, my sweet Beau! He is kind, sensitive and has a heart of pure GOLD. Did I mention he’s a football player?! SWOON 🥵
This book had SO much depth and character growth. I love how Both Sienna and Beau were in their thirties - and had traumatic events in their pasts that shaped who they are. WYWUAW was realistic and oh so emotional.
The star of the show for me was Grace! The girl is a spitfire, beyond sassy and soooo funny!
The sexual tension between Beau and Sienna was iNCREDIBLY palpable - you could FEEL the yearning and YEARS of pent up angst.
I loved the past/present timeline chapters SO MUCH - it gave us so much insight into Beau and Sienna’s high school years.
This was SO much more than just a romance novel - it taught you to appreciate life and savor every single second because we not guaranteed tomorrow.
UGH - I cannot rave about this book enough…it was beautiful and I will forever shout it from the rooftops!

Her daughter has a wish granted by a local organization and she is able to do the coin toss at an NFL game and get the VIP treatment. Sienna is wary about going to the game because Beau is a star player. Beau was her best friend and first love and he left her, broke her heart and they had not spoken in years. Now they are face to face for the first time.
Beau and Sienna were the best of friends when they were little, then Sienna moved away with her family. When she was in high school, she moved back to the small Texas town and reconnected with Beau. They were both dealing with loss, Sienna lost her mom and Beau lost his older brother. They became best friends and soon it became more. Beau left town to pursue his football career and he left Sienna behind.

Second chance romances are either hit or miss for me. This hits in all the right places and then some and if it’s not on your radar it absolutely needs to be.
I’ll start with the obvious and something I struggle with as a reader which is finding a balance of past and present. Usually the past is all told or it’s too much past, not enough present. Not here. Not with these diary entries where you feel SO much it’s almost overwhelming. Almost.
Another thing that was a major hit was the reason Beau and Sienna separated in the first place. It wasn’t dramatic. It wasn’t because of a miscommunication or cheating. It was about growth. The hurt that stemmed from that was due to the important role Beau played in Sienna’s life at such a pivotal point. But how it played out was exactly how it was meant to.
And without giving too much away, I can’t imagine the planning the author had to map out to pull this off but I’m so happy she did. I loved the nostalgia and the way she brought the past right back to the present through Beau’s actions. It clearly took a lot of work, and I can say by how this story moved me, it paid off big time. I cried on and off but sobbed happily during the second half of the epilogue—“You can tell Dad Beau kept his promise.”
What you have here is a beautifully written, perfect, mature, second chance romance that will make you believe in fate. This is a top read for me. Don’t sleep on it.

I’ve just been on a huge sports romance kick these past couple of weeks, and this one just continued to make me happy. Even better, this was a second chance romance with lifelong friends, and I just couldn’t get enough.
Sienna has experienced a lot of loss and traumatic events in her life. Beau also experienced the loss of a sibling at a young age. These two have come back to each other in times where they have needed it most. They have pulled each other out of darkness, and what started out as childhood friends, then reconnecting after Sienna moved back to her hometown, they quickly become high school sweethearts. However, Beau is also a football player, and his next steps include going to play football in college then the NFL.
As you can imagine, Beau goes on to follow his dreams, and sadly, Sienna is left behind. However, Beau told her that one day, he would come back for her. I don’t want to give any spoilers, so you have to read how they reconnect and the strength of their love.
Their bond is incredible, and I’m a sucker for second chance romance, especially when it’s between childhood friends. This book made me laugh, cry, and feel all the things. I love a good dual POV and multiple timelines book.

But even before she had her character growth in the story she was a strong, caring mother. I loved the bond that she had with her daughter and her brother Henry that had been a constant support to them. Beau Walker who had been her rock, the person she shared everything with and a kid. He also had his own loss that he struggled with daily and the burden that placed on him.
The pain and struggles that they both had and being able to have that second chance was great to read. I enjoyed the alternate timeline perspective being able to know what their story was like the first time they feel in love 🥰 but also the heartbreaking moments that Sienna went through.
As a mother I can’t even imagine some of the struggles she endured as a single mother to a child with such an illness and the daily struggles even the children face.
This emotional story captured me and I found myself crying and laughing at times!

This book was sent to me as an ARC but all thoughts are my own and genuine.
When You Wish Upon a Wideout is probably in the top 5 all time favorite books for me. I absolutely loved it and gave it 5 stars because I would happily reread it even though I remember every single scene in the book because it was so good.
Having Grace be the reason that Sienna and Beau reunited was so heartfelt, wholesome, and chef's kiss. Grace, Sienna's daughter, is so brave and caring; I truly enjoyed reading her character development and read about her growing up.
Beau... I'm laughing to myself... why are there not more Beau Walker's in the world? I pretty much knew from the beginning of the book that he had a place in my heart but I knew at 24% that he was a keeper. I always take notes when I am reading books so that I can remember the small and big details when reviewing and I wrote "24% in - really rooting for Beau and Sienna".
My fiance played football his whole life including college which is where we met so I really could imagine myself in the book as Sienna. Of course, there were a lot of parts like their childhood that wasn't the same but as far as the football portion, I really related.
I will definitely be recommending When You Wish Upon a Wideout to anyone that is looking for a romance recommendation or second change love trope. However, I would read the trigger warnings before reading this book as there are a few such as cancer and suicide.

I loved this book! I received this book as an ARC and was so so so grateful I was able to because of how much I enjoyed it. So I went into this read knowing it was sports romance.. and that’s all I really cared about because I am in my sports romance era 😜… but what I got, was SO. Much. More. There are some heavy themes in this book, so I would check trigger warnings just to be safe, but I really think they were done so well, and that they helped create such a beautiful story. I laughed, I cried, and I smiled a lot! I absolutely loved the diary entries and hearing their love story as teenagers. I fell in love with their young, but mature, love. I was totally captivated the whole time. Also, the plane scene?!?! 🔥🔥 This really was such a good book and everything came full circle. Please do yourself a favor and go read it when it comes out on February 1st! You won’t be mad, promise!

Oh man did this book hit me in all my feels! I had this immediate connection to Sienna and everything life has thrown at her. She deserves to have all her wishes come true and Beau is absolutely willing to deliver any and all of them. Second chance romance done right is one of my favorite tripes and this one was done right. I loved the diary entries from Sienna so we’re to get a glimpse of what Sienna and Beau’s relationship looked like when they were kids. It just adds to the intimacy of their present day relationship because they already know so much about each other. In the present day timeline, we get both their POVs and it’s obvious they still have chemisty and an undeniable connection. I was swooning every other chapter over their banter.
And the addition of Sienna’s daughter, Grace! Oh sweet Grace, who loves her mom so much, and just wants to see her happy. It made my heart so much just seeing this beautiful, loving mother/daughter connection between the two!
My only complaint was the ending felt a bit rushed and the conflict between Sienna and Beau - I could absolutely understand some of Sienna’s feelings involving the situation but some of the other I just didn’t understand the justification behind why she felt the way she did.
Otherwise I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book!

I was blown away with how this one started, turned out and ended. This was as much sweet and a savory read with characters full of depth, flaws and realistic qualities that blended so great together. As childhood friends and lovers, Sienna and Beau were given second and third chances to rebuild what was put off in the past but also explore new aspects into their relationship. I did not expect to feel so much and relate so often with these characters, but I did. And I enjoyed it immensely. Also, Grace is a gem of a side character and the last two chapters really held my heart as a mom.
This was my first Cathryn Carter book and it definitely won't be my last. Her writing is poignant and touching, a different type of pen to paper with regards to contemporary romance. Loved this!

What an emotional ride! Sienna has had a rough time and has dealt with loss and heartbreak. She’s trying to do the best she can as a mother of a sick kid and owner of a money pit bar. The last thing she needs or expects is for her first love to return to her and suddenly turn her mediocre life into the fairytale she never thought was possible. Once again, Cathryn has torn out my heart and reassembled the pieces back together better than how they were before this book. Beau and Sienna are childhood friends who get a second (technically third) chance at love. Since their youth, their lives have been filled with sadness and grief leading up into their adult years. This is a story of unraveling that trauma and understanding it’s okay to wish you don’t need to do it alone.
Sienna’s relationship with her daughter, Grace, was another huge aspect that made this book so special to me. Not only was there phenomenal romance between the two main characters but the kind of love that family has for one another and what that looks like in hard times.
This isn’t all sadness and emotions though! Sprinkle in some major groveling and a hottie NFL player who is a millionaire to get the perfect mix for a second chance romance. I was swooning over Beau and his grand gestures the entire book.

This was such a perfect second chance romance mixed with some football and a lot of heartwarming moments. Sienna and Beau meet as children and become best friends. Her family moves away and then after losing her mom her dad brings them back way and her reconnect. Beau was her best friend and her first love. He went away at college and left her broken hearted. Present day they have been brought back together for a third time! They both have some past trauma and grief that they have been dealing with. I just loved Beau and he must be protected at all costs. He was literally her Prince Charming making all Sienna’s wishes come true.
Such a beautiful story that might give you some tears but it is so worth it!! Fall in love with this book and these characters!

Cathryn Carter does NOT fail when it comes to romance! This novel is as sweet as it is swoon-worthy and her characters absolutely leap from the page. Sienna is a strong single mother with the heavy task of raising, not only a teenager, but one who is constantly in and out of the hospital due to a terrible disease. When her old flame, now professional NFL player, Beau finally comes back into her life, she doesn't let him in easily but he is determined to prove to her over and over again that he's worthy of a second chance. Their chemistry was amazing. I completely fell for Beau and his unfailing love for Sienna only made me love him more. Wideout is Carter's third novel but definitely don't sleep on her first series! She's an absolute instant-buy author for me.

Honestly the characters, Sienna and Beau are very well written and you truly feel their love for one another. This book definitely pulled on my heart strings a few times, but in a good way! I enjoyed this second chance romance! Sienna and Beau were a great couple, and I was rooting for them throughout the novel. I especially loved the diary entries showing flashbacks to their relationship in high school, to the point that I sometimes didn't want to return to the present-day storyline. But I wanted to see what would happen with Sienna's daughter Grace and all the wishes Beau helped to make come true. The story's ending was satisfying and sweet after some of the heavy themes in the book (depression, suicide, illness). Even though I'm not a sports fan and know very little about football, I'm glad I got the chance to read this book!

This is such a sweet second chance love story! With a mix of past and present you learn how deeply Sienna and Beau love each other and with the help of a meddling teenager they’re able to reconnect.

I am still not over this book. Cathryn does such a marvelous job dealing with the grief that both these characters have to deal with. Each going through their own issues but realizing that they are stronger together. And Grace! Omg her spunk and determination after going through all that she did was beyond amazing. Get your box of tissues out for this one! It was SO good! I was bawling within the first chapter and through the book and kept getting looks from my husband wondering what was wrong with me LOL! Everyone deserves to be loved as much as Beau loves Sienna and Sienna loves Beau ❤️
