I don’t usually read anything in ebook form, but I was so impatient to read the sequel to Firekind that I couldn’t wait for a paper copy. Having said that, I enjoyed this so much that as soon as my physical copy of the book arrives, I will be reading it again! I absolutely fell in love with Poppy and Thom all over again, and found the next part of their adventure equally as thrilling. I love Angela’s writing style, the story is fast paced and exciting, the language is descriptive and poetic without being pretentious and there’s the perfect mix of humour, heart and action in her books. I loved how the story was told from multiple character’s perspective as I felt we had such an in-depth look into their motivations and a fuller view of all that was happening in Firedawn. At the same time, there was suspense the entire way through, and a lot of surprising moments. I really appreciated the map, and the glossary of Firekind terms at the back of the book. I wish more Fantasy books included these features as it’s touches like this that make fantasy worlds feel real. I feel so lucky to have found this author and this series and I can’t wait to read more of her work! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An enjoyable read that I enjoyed just as much as the first one. The writing was engaging, the storyline was compelling and the characters were well developed, with my favourite definitely being Poppy. I loved the romance elements too

The book is full of vivid descriptions and rich imagery and I felt like I could jump between the pages or that the characters could jump out from the pages

The front cover is also STUNNING. I can't wait to see what this author does next

Firedawn is the second book in the Firekind series and I hadn’t read the first book in the series but I didn’t feel that this impacted me too much as the story starts straight away and is really action packed. The writing style is really good and the language is so vivid you really feel like you are part of the story. Poppy is my favourite character and I was completely caught up in her romance with Thom. Reading this book has made me want to go back and read book one in the series.

I received an ARC of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and written voluntarily.

This series continues to be such a unique story written in fantastic prose with relatable characters and a healthy romance to boot! Real rating of a 4.5.

If there's anything you can expect from Angela's books, its fantastic prose and excellent descriptions that paint the most vivid story! I absolutely love that this series is inspired by Iceland and uses an elemental magic system that exists in its own little world. It's a contemporary fantasy, but certainly leans more towards the fantasy. Previous contemporary fantasy books I've read have been too heavy on modern lingo and references that would distract from the fantasy, but this series changes that by focusing on the fantasy and never having any references that take you out of the story. I did find that the Icelandic phrases threw me off a little since few were translated and the glossary didn't help as much as I'd hoped in that aspect. A quick little translation in text would have been helpful in continuing the flow without making me ponder the translation using context clues or Google. Overall though, it truly is fantastic writing with such vivid storytelling.

While much of the story is about Poppy and Thom's romance, I did love that while they were working to get back to one another, they fully embraced their own battles and prioritized saving the world. It made their reunion that much sweeter since they were both so focused on their battles that seeing each other made the world stop around them. Thom's patience and loyalty to Poppy are adorable and it makes their relationship the perfect example of a healthy one for YA readers. This book does include some off the page intimacy that is vaguely mentioned, but nothing that would classify it as new adult. I loved that after the more traumatic scenes for the characters, Thom would be there for Poppy for whenever she was ready to talk and supported her through her turmoil. You truly won't find a more patient and understanding character.

You'll find lots of action, emotional vulnerability, the caretaker trope, and an air of mystery surrounding this story and the end will leave you yearning for more. If you're looking for a YA fantasy book (or really any fantasy book in general) with a unique elemental magic system, then look no further because this is it!

4.5 ⭐️s

I really enjoyed the first book so was excited to dive back in to learn more about this fantastical world and its unique elemental magic system, and to reconnect with the lovable Poppy and Thom.

I loved the fast-paced and compelling prose that effortlessly flows sweeping us fully into the story. It’s detailed, lyrical and propulsive; the words paint a clear vision and the story really comes to life. As we move through the chapters, the writing seamlessly weaves from action and suspense to touching scenes.

We join Poppy and Thom as they each have their own battles to face and paths to forge. They are so resilient, and I love the way they fight for what they believe in and stop at nothing to protect each other and the realms. They are so easy to connect with; their courage, bravery and the unending support and love they have for one another shines through and is a joy to read.

The numerous sub-plots running through the chapters increase the intrigue offering additional dimensions to the main story as they build the wider picture and intertwine perfectly.

It was great seeing Poppy learning about her Firekind heritage and the heartwarming interactions with Ryn. Alongside this, she’s dealing with the complicated dynamic she has with her father and his quest for power. As Thom navigates a perilous path, he has some help along the way, and it was entertaining meeting new and interesting characters linked to his past.

We are taken on a thrilling adventure with danger lurking around the corner. It’s a heartfelt story that looks at embracing who you are and finding a sense of belonging. There’s humour, deception, mystery and a sense of urgency that keeps the reader turning those pages! Poppy and Thom come up against some terrifying enemies and have to dig deep harnessing their power and fierce tactics as the fate of Caelith and Uther-Erai rests on their shoulders.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Firedawn and recommend to fans of YA, fantasy and romance with oodles of action and adventure to keep the reader on their toes.

With thanks to @lovebookstours, @angelacrocker_ and @CayellePub for a place on the tour.

Firedawn Review by Angela Wren Crocker
5/5
Firedawn is the sequel to Firekind and they are an Iceland-inspired fantasy series. This series is one of my all-time favorite contemporary fantasies, I love Poppy and Thom and their story is just perfect in every way. This series continues to amaze me and leave me wanting more, Angela has such excellent prose, and her descriptions make such vivid images in my mind as I read. The world-building is amazing, each detail comes together so well and honestly, I forgot I wasn't just reading a standard fantasy. Angela does a wonderful job at keeping you in the story and not taking you out of the fantasy with reference to the modern world. It's easy to be drawn in and absorbed by the story, each character makes the journey that much more interesting. Firedawn picks ups where we left off in Firekind, Poppy, and Thom are finally back together only to be ripped from each other. (and yes I totally cried while reading this) We get a story that has a wonderful mix of finding oneself, humor, heartache, action, and sweet moments. I loved that Poppy and Thom were just as dedicated to each other as they were to protecting their homeland. It was so refreshing to see a couple choose to do what needed to be done rather than let their heart lead them astray. They chose the hard roads back to each other and it made their eventual reuniting all the more powerful and meaningful. While this is a YA book there is some off-page intimacy which was slightly eluded to but it’s not enough that I would deem it to be labeled as new adult. If you love action and adventure, creative world-building, emotional vulnerability, older love interest/protector, badass MC, forbidden romance, and elemental magic this is the book series for you.

I received a copy of eARC for my honest opinion.

I thought Firekind was a great read, but wow this book really hit it out of the ballpark for me. This YA urban/fantasy was even more amazing than the first book. I loved all the action, the twists in the plot, the romance and of course this author has a wonderful way with words that really bring this fantasy world to life.

I am so happy to see Poppy and Thom again, I just adore them in the first book and I love them even more. I loved how they both got to go on their own adventures in this book but at the same time still battling together to save their world and our world. I really love those characters, Angela really knows how to make characters that are relatable and easy to connect with. I just adore Thom so much; I think I have a new book bf. He is patience with Poppy and loyal to her, he would do anything for her and do anything to get back to her. I loved that after a hard decision was made by Poppy, Thom was there to hold her and give her whatever she needed to recover.

I loved all the twists and turns that this book took, but there was so much more in this book: action, romance, amazing world building, adventures, roller coaster of emotions throughout the book, great characters, humor, and a wonderful fantasy with all the elemental magic. There was 1 scene that did have some spice but it would be rated at level 1 for me, nothing but some intimacy that was eluded.

I cannot wait to see what else Angela Crocker will bring us, I know that when she has another book out I will be there to buy it right away.

I want to thank Angela Wren Crocker for the opportunity to review this book.

- This is book 2 in the Firekind series. Poppy and Thom are surrounded and there is no escape but why do they want them, even though Thom asks more than once, he's still doesn't know what is happening. Felix Paquin had ordered the capture of his daughter Poppy and hides her away at his home, While Thom is lying in bed in the medward in Caldys, not knowing where Poppy is, but he does know who has her. After a visit from Felix with someone or something that looks, sound and dresses like Poppy but he knows this is not her, so where can she be and will he find her. There are so many twists in this story you will not put it down. Trying to get back together Poppy and Thom both had their own battles to overcome as well as protecting their homeland. Once Thom and Poppy are back together their love is even stronger but will it last? With Angela's (the author) description and the map at the beginning of the book, you can picture the story in your head. I love that Angela also added 'Firekind Terms' in the back of the book which helps you build the story even more.

Firedawn review!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Angela did it again! This sequel was a flawless continuation of her series.

Poppy and Thom make for such intriguing characters and a powerful dynamic as they navigate the chaos of Caelith! Poppy remains a strong FMC who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty and I love it. She feels so realistic and raw, the perfect combination of feisty and vulnerable. And Thom 😍. Okay, I LOVE Thom. All other MMCs need to take notes. He stole my heart early on and there’s no going back for me. This is a man who will fight and give everything for the people he loves and I am here for it.

I had high hopes for Firedawn after book one, Firekind, and the sequel did not disappoint, Angela has created an amazing, vivid world, and this book is loaded with action. Her descriptions are so beautiful and draw you into her storytelling from the first page. It is incredibly imaginative and compelling, and I cannot wait for the continuation of this series! I feel so connected to her characters and am looking forward to seeing where their journey takes them!!

I read this as part of a Love Books Tours book tour so my copy was gifted to me.

⭐️Review⭐️

OK first I have to say I'm my enthusiasm I didn't realise this was book 2 oops 🤦‍♀️ so I went into this book not knowing any of the history or what was happening.

Having said that it didn't spoil my enjoyment the characters Poppy and Thom are likeable and you really do feel for them, you join them pretty much in the direct aftermath of whatever occurred at the end of book one and you feel their complete exhaustion and the need to have somewhere safe to recuperate.

I really enjoyed reading Firedawn it was easy to pick up and follow, even though I in my haste probably missed out on a lot of the world and character building in book one. Some of the scenery described is breathtaking, and the second part of the book really brings some action. I enjoyed the way things were wrapped up.

I would recommend reading book 1 first though, I wish I had

Firedawn is the second book in Angela Wren's YA fantasy duology, and I loved following Poppy and Thom into book two!! This book blends action, love, magic, and family so wonderfully--Poppy and Thom are once more separated in the mystical world of Caelith, the realm of the Elementalkind. Poppy's father and his terrifying advisor Asa are keeping her apart from Thom, not to mention that Asa is definitely up to something nefarious. Thom won't let that stop him, doing everything he can, including asking for help from his estranged sister, in order to get back to Poppy and help her save Caelith from the evil invading it. The author has an incredible imagination and her worldbuilding is extraordinary! If you're looking for your next great summer read, pick up both Firekind and Firedawn, you won't be sorry you went on this journey with these characters!!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this book, almost as much as I enjoyed the first one. Watching Poppy grow as a character that stands up for herself and what she wants was so lovely after the first book where it felt like she didn't have as much control over her own destiny.

The ending? HEARTBROKEN. My heart still hurts. I loved it though.

SPOILER ZONE AHEAD

Overall, I recommend this book for sure

Thank you for all you do to make this book community that much better.
Now for my review or this book. I loved everything about this book. I was hooked I couldn't put it down. I had to know what happened next. I loved reading how Poppy and Thomas story unfolded and how love can have no bounds and how truly connected they really are. I connected so much to Poppy; especially when she had to tell her dad off and let him know how he was being a jerk. She stood up to him and since he couldn't change she had to cut him off!! I felt this !!
Go get this book ASAP !! Or add to your TBR!! So good

I received Firedawn as an ARC. Angela is such an exciting author! Sometimes I worry that young adult stories may bore me as I’m in near 30 but that did not happen at all. I was addicted to both Firekind and Firedawn within the first chapter.

I love the world that Angela created in there books and the map that’s included is very helpful! The adventures and all the different magic made this an excellent read.

It was interesting to read about a non toxic relationship; made it a bit realistic. The only thing I didn’t like was how little romance we actually get to see when so much of the story is revolved around Poppy and Thom.

I was so lucky to read an early copy of this story and I loved every second of it. This book is a journey-both literally and emotionally-following Poppy and Thom as they find their ways back to each other. The writing is gorgeous with Crocker’s signature flowing prose, sublime descriptions, and fast-paced action. I couldn’t put Firedawn down and want to thank the author so much for my early copy. Poppy and Thom forever!

This is book 2 of 2 book 1 is called Firekind. I would recommend reading that first.
Right from the off the author takes us straight into the action, with barely a chance to breathe. Poppy and Thom are both likeable characters that have you rooting for them. This is an interesting action packed story. The writing style is almost poetic at times, the worlds and characters are wonderfully described.
It will be interesting to see what is next for this author.

So I must admit I had to go back and read the first book FireKind and then I came back and read this one. It picks up pretty close to where the last one left off so you didn't miss a beat. The writing is done beautifully and the character development is done well It continues to follow the journey of poppy and thom as they find their way back to one another. The book is fast-paced and full of action and will keep your attention as a reader. I will say that I wish Poppy and thom could have spent more time together and that the ending completely broke me overall this was a very good book.

I received Firedawn as an eARC through NetGalley in exchange for my voluntary, honest review.

Fantasy has been my genre of choice this year and Angela did such a great job of picking up right where she left off in Firekind.

This book will have you in its grips from the first chapter. The growth of Poppy, the story building the plot, and finally a story without a toxic romantic relationship was the perfect recipe for a stay-up-all-night-and-devour-in-one-sitting read.

Would recommend the add to your TBR for all my fantasy reading friends!
