HORIKOSHI Kouhei Name (in native language): 堀越耕平 Associated Names: Kouhei Horikoshi
Born 1986 in the prefecture Aichi, Horikoshi first attracted attention in the second half of 2006 when he entered Shueisha's 72th Tezuka Award for Newcomers with his one shot "Nukegara" and made it to the final six, where he gained himself an "Honorable Mention". Various short stories in Shueisha's Akamaru JUMP followed over the years until he published his one shot "Oumagadoki Doubutsuen" in issue #2/2010 of Weekly Shounen JUMP.
Kouhei Horikoshi is a graduate of Nagoya University of Arts. He was previously an assistant to TANAKA Yasuki.
I really hope Dabi doesn't die after everything he's been through. I don't think I could handle it. He deserves so much more. Shigaraki too. They deserve to be happy, ugh.
If I had to list that "Moments in Media that Altered my Brain Chemistry Trend" BNHA would be on no. 3, after His Dark Materials and Red Rising Trilogy.
Aoyama is growing up to be a strong boy, and I love it. I love how Horikoshi's brain works, ridirecting everything in a calm and subtle manner
I'm sorry but I'll never be able to forgive Endeavour for what he did to his children, specially after reading all of Dabi's backstory. Dabi is still in the wrong for trying to kill his little brother to get back at his father but I see where he's coming from... This is just so tragic and I don't think he'll survive this fight and that makes me so incredibly sad.
Volume 35 includes Chapters 340 - 350. Also, for some reason I'm not that impressed by this cover, even though we have our shining hero and destructive villain together in this one like binaries of the Her0-Villain trope. I can't quite pinpoint what I don't like about it. There's the Toya-Dabi internal war and binary element there as well and yet... Oh well. I'm ready to immerse myself in this world of heroes and their heroic quirks again after what seems like forever. I had pledged to read more mangas this year, especially the ones I've fallen quite behind on and yet, I'm waaaayyy behind what I'd pledged.
Time to rectify that.
P.s. These are the chapter titles for the curious cats:
Chapter 340 : The Story of How We All Became Heroes, Part 3 Chapter 341 : The Story of How We All Became Heroes, Part Minus 1 Chapter 342 : The Extreme Quiet Before The Storm Chapter 343 : Let You Down Chapter 344 : Stars Chapter 345 : Division Chapter 346 : Super Hyper Unfair Broken Stage Chapter 347 : Inflation Chapter 348 : Unrequited Chapter 349 : Battle Flame Chapter 350 : Bound To a Fiery Fate
Yeah, sure, it left me in quite the emotional mess, but it is also proving itself to be an incredible comfort read at the same time with how certain things in life are going.
When it comes to this volume specifically, there is a lot of things that I really enjoyed and appreciate. I loved the little moment between Toga and Dabi, I loved how got hoodwinked, and I loved how certain characters have joined up!!!
I think Dabi, who was revealed to be back in volume 30, has one of the best and most tragic stories in the My Hero Academia universe. It was a great decision to have that little reveal be in this volume, especially now that it will be Dabi vs. Shoto.
I love this cover, so cool! And I’m also upgrading the rating from four to five stars because I can’t stop thinking about it, it was so intense and good! There’s so much to talk about and I don’t think I can put it all down into words, but I’ll do my best!
All Might is such a drama king, lol! Him laying out plans and strategies is hilarious though in all honesty I think he just needs more sleep, lol.
And I LOVE so so much Deku and Uraraka’s talk overlooking the city and even later when they’re fighting Toga—they’re just so in tune with each other and have both grown and matured so much and I’m so so proud of them! And even though there’s next to zero romance in this series, I hope we get a hint of them being together by the end in some way because they’re just so perfect for each other—this probably won’t happen, but a girl can wish, right? I did laugh over the whole “Deku’s got great power but he’s still a nerd and freaks out about girls liking him”, narration because that is just so him and I love him for it, lol.
Speaking of Toga, out of all the villains in this series I honestly don’t understand her and how she thinks and feels, but in the flip side I do get her a little (VERY little, mind you). I feel bad for her in all the struggles she’s been through but not enough that I want to see her win in any way either—she’s definitely a complex character while still being really dangerous and unhinged in a crazy scary way.
But the battle to end all battles has begun and GOODNESS it’s already so intense with everyone (and I literally mean EVERYONE) playing their parts, and I’m so excited and nervous on how everything’s going to go down by the end of it all.
Love this volume so much!

Horikoshi threw a curveball with Aoyama and then the curveball curved!? Very exciting volume to read, I'm dying to see how this fight ends for all the heroes and the villains! It was a lot of fun to watch Shinso and Monoma shine in these chapters.
This story just doesn't quit! Love it so much! Summaries and Highlights: - The heroes eventually chose to trust Aoyama, knowing that the threats made to his family were controlling him. Aizawa vouches for him, and trusts in the lessons he learned at UA. - Toga visits her childhood home and reminisces before Dabi burns it down.... but also gives her a vial of Twice's blood, which when she ingests it, will allow her to use his Double Quirk - The students of UA secretly move to Makeshift Fortress, allowing them to keep the fight away from the civilians who are staying the very secured UA buildings. - All-For-One makes his appearance again, leading the League of Villains. His first move backfires with Aoyama turns against him, having overcome AFO's lie detection quirk by first being brainwashed by Shinso - Monoma copies Kurogiri's teleport quirk and uses it in junction with several other heroes to divide up the League into various areas and regions, using teams of heroes to take them on one by one. - Deku is supposed to be at the battle against Shigaraki, but was pulled through the gate by Toga. Because Monoma is copying Erasure to hold back Shigaraki's Decay Quirk, he can't go back to copying Kurogiri.... so Deku will have to get to the fight without teleport. - Toga confesses that she pulled Deku to her area because she loves him and wants them to be together. We get a very weird scene between her, Deku, and Uraraka, which is stopped when Froppy steps in so Deku can leave. - We get a flashback about how AFO first found Toya, and how his desire to go home and prove to his father that he is worthy changes him to Dabi. - We end on a face to face battle between Dabi and Todoroki, which will go at the start of the next Volume. Not sure I can wait till December.... This is great.
I can't believe that after all this time, MHA is finally coming to a close. This was one of the first three manga I ever bought physicals of, (The others being One Punch Man and Shield Hero) and to have this saga come to an end after reading for what will be almost 4 years by the time the series actually ends, is going to be a big change for me. But a side effect of the impending finale is that a lot of plot lines and major themes are getting explored in more volume and in more exciting ways. I can't wait to see the conclusion of what has been one of my favorite reads of any genre.
Lo dije una vez y lo vuelvo a decir: que se ponga las pilas Horikoshi porque viene re flojito el último arco de todo MHA, que se supone debería ser el más atrapante e interesante, y en vez de eso está resultando ser el más aburrido y dramático.
Alot is happening. Multiple characters are squared off against others, everyone is trying to survive. With so much happening it's sometimes hard to follow where everyone is. Saying that, some really fun moments including a peaceful one between Deku and is no doubt future wife. I am eager to see who lives and dies.
This volume prepares heroes for the second part of their all-out war against the villains. As the race against time begins, the second half of the volume launches their ultimate strategy until Midoriya finds himself pulled out of the equation, doing everything in his power to get back to his position while the battle begins. Serving mostly as a setup, setting up the pieces at the right spots, the stakes are now high and time is short as everyone puts their heart out to come out victorious. A monumental battle between Shoto and Dabi is also established and will inevitably be the main attraction in the following volume.
4.5 stars. Wow. Reading this volume really reminds me how much I’ve come to care about this series and these characters. Things are going to get even crazier with every volume until the end, I’m sure. I enjoyed most of the dialogue a lot, though there was a decent bit of exposition, per usual. The chess match that is this volume was done very well.
Meh, I don't know, suddenly this was all part of the plan. All the whining and complaining was just a plot by the good guys? The fight at the remains of the flying UA campus is kind of interesting. But the other encounters are just blah, blah, blah talk fests. A whine fest of Endevours kids. The little girl that does not want to grow up so she can kill and drink the blood of those she "loves". That Deku's danger sense does not work for her is just dumb. ugh.
Read Chapters338 to 346, 340 to 348, 340 to 350 - My favourite part of this arc is the characterization of a certain character. We're in the Final Saga of My Hero Academia; so, it's nice to see these characters being fleshed out.
Note: revised chapter numbers of Volume 35 on July 6, 2022
I loved how Horikoshi-sensei played his fans!
The other aspect I love about this volume is how Horikoshi-sensei returns My Hero Academia's focus on the Todoroki brothers.

Definitely ramping up to some BIG finales here, with four(?) simultaneous battles happening involving some of the "big bads"; AFO, Shigaraki, Dabi, and... Toga + Nomu? Honestly kinda weird that she's being treated as one of the powerful "big bads" here, but I guess we'll have to wait and see!
I am particularly interested in the battle with Dabi at the moment, especially with all that has now been revealed from his backstory. Definitely building up to something MAJOR there.
Chapter notes below for personal reference: (potentially spoiler heavy) Chapter 340. Ragdoll’s back! :o As a civilian too? – …how the heck are you going to separate Shigaraki and AFO by a minimum of 10km? HOW? – Really? You’re going to lure out each of AFO’s followers one by one? I repeat - HOW? – Aizawaaaaaaaa! (Are you missing an eye, or is that an eye patch? :| It’s been a while since you were last physically in this manga (and also a while since I last read a chapter with you physically in it) and I can’t check the wiki because spoilers (spoilers EVERYWHERE) – Aizawa has the BEST motivational speeches. – Is that Shinsou? :o Excitingggggg.
Chapter 341. Dabi and Togaaaaa – She has Twice’s blood? And will be able to use his quirk with it? :o – Okay, and something with Spinner too. Not really a lot of things happening this chapter 8’D
Chapter 342. Soo… are they PLF soldiers or are they Tartatus escapees? I realise they’re meant to sow chaos and discord and all, but which villain do they “belong” to? – Back to 1A characters! :D – Oh hey! I forgot they had Kurogiri in custody! – …That is a VERY public farewell. Is there a reason for that? – Awwww. A Deku/Uraraka heart-to-heart <3
Chapter 343. ...Is this an Aoyama thing? Or something else? – …How do you know AFO’s true goal? Weren’t you just a pawn? And a low-level one at that? – So his plan is to become an evil overlord? Checks out, but seems uninspired considering he’s had over a century to plan this :| – AFO?!?!?!?! – So that’s NOT his evil end game? What is then? – GO AOYAMA! I know you can’t take down AFO, but you’re trying dammit! – …So I understand AFO summoning his backup via the black goo quirk. But how the heck did the heroes arrive so quickly? It looks like they’re using Kurogiri’s quirk to do so, but I don’t understand HOW. Either way, it’s shaping up to make one HELL of a chapter up next.
Chapter 344. So THAT’S how they defeated AFO’s lie detecting. Go Shinsou! Ace in the holeeeee. – Everyone is so excited to see Shinsou <3 – Ohhhhh. They got MONOMA to do it. Now it makes sense! This whole plan is honestly genius, and I love the surprise heroes coming from NOT Class 1A ;D – Thank you for confirming Aizawa. You have indeed lost an eye. That sucks :| – …Uh oh. Shigaraki ._. I thought they were trying to split the two of them up? – Endeavour vs. Dabi again :o – Shotoooooooooo – So THAT’S how they split them up. I really don’t see how that’s going to work tbh. They’re still close to each other 8’D
Chapter 345. Ohhhhhh. They’re moving the cages. THAT’S how they’re splitting them up. – Monoma is having the BEST time. – …what just happened to Deku. – So Endeavour is to fight against AFO, and Shoto is to fight against Dabi? This is gonna get GOOD. – OHHHHH. Toga grabbed Deku. Thanks!
Chapter 346. So uhhh… is it these guys vs. Shigaraki? Because without Deku I’m not sure how well they’ll do ._. – Gotta say, the evolution of Shigaraki’s appearance is pretty incredible. – Question: Is Cementoss there just to create shit to throw at Shigaraki? – Oh neat! Mei’s back! And Momo’s helping out in the background too! And Lunch Rush! (Is Lunch Rush there to provide food for Momo due to the requirements of her quirk?) – …Is that Kaminari? XD (And others with electricity quirks I assume) – Monoma is truly the MVP this volume, huh? Love to see it! And him using Eraserhead’s quirk in the absence of Eraser’s second eye is pretty fantastic c: – …Did he just kill Miruko? ;u; (Also that is a LOT of hands)
Chapter 347. Well that “growth” is gross AF :| – Okay, Miruko is still alive (for now), but TBH I don’t have high hopes for her ._. – Miruko and Bakugo together are the BEST comedy duo XD – Ahh. Fuck. No warping Deku back, huh? – And now we switch to another fight - and this one has Gang Orca! Neat!
Chapter 348. Toga’s obsession with Deku is somehow kind of adorable? (Yeah, I don’t get it either). – And it’s no longer adorable. – Froppy to the rescueeeee.
Chapter 349. GO, DEKU, GO. – Oooh… Shoto vs. Dabi time. – We’re going to get to learn the rest of the backstory for Dabi? YESSSS.
Chapter 350. Dabi originnnnn – He was in a coma for THREE YEARS?! – That amount of damage to Touya (pre-Dabi) makes a lot of sense honestly. Where’d they get the skin they grafted onto him though? – …Sooo… AFO is basically Orochimaru, and Dabi one of the failed experiments (pre-Sasuke)? Am I understanding this right? What’s with the whole idea of “vessels” anyways? I do like that his obsession with his father makes it so that even AFO can’t control him though, even though that obsession is REALLY unhealthy. – He went back home? ;u; And saw Shoto going through what he had gone through previously? ;u; You should have stepped in to save your little brother, you dickwad! Hate Endeavour, sure, but baby Shoto was innocent! It wasn’t his fault! – …The “fatal flames of insanity”? That sounds bad :|
So many incredible moments in this volume from epic fights to touching moments of dialogue between friends. As huge as the war arc gets, Horikoshi never forgets the heart of the story. As Dabi puts it in this volume, “this war’s all about the people involved.”
Dabi fans get an especially emotional and heartbreaking final chapter about his origin story. It contains some of the best panels I’ve ever seen in MHA.
Each volume gets harder to read as the emotions run high and the stakes get even higher, but I’m in this to the end.
We get to see some fights that are going to be big like Dabi vs Shoto and I love where this world war arc is heading!!! This manga is bulding up to this great big fight and I'm excited for. I also love seeing how theses charters grow up from the first manga to now. And Monama being his amazing self to help out was really cool I enjoyed that part as well. I love this cover and the art like always!!!
The confrontation between our heroes and villains finally arrives, while before that we get another unforeseen setback for Deku and company. We Peter see him go up against Toga and their meeting gets unexpectedly emotional. For Shigaraki, we get another glimpse of his past and how he got his other form. A (100%/Outstanding)
Why are these battle scenes so damn good. The dramatics of it all really rips right through your heart. All these characters carry so much hope and life within them and it's so inspirational it makes me feel too much all at once and it's the most painful yet best feeling ever.
