I mean obviously the concept doesn't really work because obviously you'd know if you weren't wearing glasses, right? But these two are so stinking cute!!

That saying about ‘blood from a stone’ does come to mind.

This series makes When Will Ayumu Make His Move? look like it has the plot twists of a season of 24 in comparison (kids, ask your parents). It’s 133 pages of Mie forgetting her glasses and Komura helping out while they dance around feelings.

I mean, I won’t lie, there is one especially amusing chapter where Komura takes Mie’s glasses home (a clever inverse of what usually happens in the title - she forgets them AT school) and his imagination runs rampant (Mie makes things even worse with an impromptu phone call as well).

This is largely an excuse to draw Mie sitting on Komura’s shelves and it does sell young boy thirstiness, but without being crass about it, so that’s kind of fun. If the manga knew how to iterate on itself this often it would be more interesting. And, okay, the hagfish chapter is pretty amusing.

Everything else feels like you could throw all the chapters from the last two books in a pile and reorder them any way you want and, minus the start, get roughly the same story out of it. I did appreciate that secondary characters suddenly lurched into frame as well.

Honestly, sometimes you want a disposable story you can blast through between bigger books and asks absolutely nothing of you as a reader except to enjoy the endless familiarity of it all. As a snack, it’s good enough at what it does.

3 stars - but, a snack is all it is, and it’s neither outrageous enough nor creative enough to achieve anything other than what it very clearly is. Which isn’t a bad thing, but this doesn’t exactly set the night on fire. Mostly harmless.

This continues to follow the same formula but it also continues to be so darn cute. Our MCs adavance a year in school and it looks like things are staying constant for them. There was a cute chapter involving Mie's glasses being taken home and our MC agonizing over what to do.

The codependency grows.

Komura's awkwardness has somehow smoothly transitioned from an anxiety over interacting with Mie in general toward shepherding the unmitigated stress that comes with knowing each day will find him engaging Mie in some strange new way. One would think the guy would be used to this by now.

But THE GIRL I LIKE FORGOT HER GLASSES v3 relies on Komura's awkwardness and Mie's obliviousness. Mie struggles to read a passage aloud during literature class (hilariously coughing over the parts she can't figure out), Komura mumbles endlessly to himself on the presumption his well-wishing is a sign of good faith (and not that of a lunatic), and Mie nurtures a brief fascination with random sea creatures (which also have poor eyesight).

The manga's easygoing humor is slow-moving, but occasionally pushes beyond the peculiar male-gaze of its primary protagonist. If the comic has one notable fault, it's how the author overly-focuses on Komura's frustrations and not as much disentangling the awkwardness from the perspectives and experiences of Mie herself. The current volume offers a few glimpses into how Mie sees things by way of a chance phone call, pencil drawing, or conversation.

For example, when the girl forgets her glasses at school for the weekend, and Komura picks them up for her, the girl glibly mentions that temporarily storing her glasses on his bookshelf is akin to the girl visiting his room in-person. Komura blushes, obviously, but Mie is so tickled by the thought experiment, she doesn't give Komura a single beat in the conversation. She hangs up before he can even respond.

Another example includes Mie pretending she didn't forget her glasses, all to avoid having Komura escort her to a postal drop box and instead hang out with his friends at the arcade. Mie's sensitivity to Komura's personal and social interests is a slightly new twist. The cuteness throws the protagonist off, and for a moment, he forgets he's pretending that he believes Mie when she told him she's wearing contacts (clearly, she isn't).

THE GIRL I LIKE FORGOT HER GLASSES v3 is another simple, easy-to-read volume. The romantic comedy still has plenty of room to flex into new settings or scenarios (e.g., the arcade is mentioned, but readers never get there), but the schoolyard setting is again the main staple. Secondary characters add flavor, but mostly for decoration. In the least, the book's use of Mie's deadpan humor is still spot-on, as when she mimics the unseeing hagfish by forcibly patting down Komura to verify it's him she's speaking to.

Title: The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses
Author: Koume Fujichika
Volume 3 out of 12
Genre: romantic comedy, slice of life, rom com, shonen
Pages:128

Initially, Mie has to deliver a form to receive a free dessert, but is unable to see, so Komura kindly offers to accompany her. However, Komura is also asked to visit a new coin arcade after school. Feeling guilty about Komura sacrificing his opportunity, Mie assures him she can handle it on her own.
Later, Mie and her classmates get brand new seats from the same teacher. She is initially seated next to Azuma, but due to a mix-up, ends up next to Someya. Meanwhile, Komura is seated next to Hibuchi, a new student. Immediately, Hibuchi notices Mie looking back for Komura and how disappointed he seems. She offers to switch seats with Mie so she can sit next to Komura. As a result, Komura ends up bringing Mie's glasses to his house for the weekend.
Feeling sorry for causing him inconvenience, Mie calls Komura and apologizes. She even goes as far as telling him that it feels like she's with him at his house. As the story progresses, their relationship takes a romantic turn, adding more depth to the manga. While the manga consists of short, lighthearted chapters, there are some longer ones that focus on character development.
Overall, the story is simple yet effective, with moments that will make you smile and others that will keep you hooked. The tone of the manga is light and comedic, with some romantic tension sprinkled throughout.

I am just zipping through these volumes! They’re so adorable. I love how they really care about each other and it’s just growing all the time.

Easy favourites in this volume were the bonus chapter where they started the new school year and have to change seats but a classmate notices they keep staring at each other and changes for them.

And the one when Komura took a photo of the heart cloud everyone sees out the window of their class and sends it to Mie in a message.

The one where Komura took home Mie’s glasses was funny but the drawing of a 14 year old girl in (somewhat) provocative ways was a little irksome. It’s supposed to be the mind of a teen boy with a crush though so I guess it’s fair enough because that’s how he sees her (and she could’ve been even more hypersexualized as I’ve heard of other illustrations so it’s good that it wasn’t).

My head continues to hurt from Mie’s squint but it’s such a cute series that I’ll let that go. ❤️

This is just too cute. It would be so funny if she knew he had a crush on her the whole time & just uses the entire glasses thing as an excuse sometimes. Like just playing dumb so that he gets the courage himself to confess to her.

I prefer the wholesomeness to this manga. I enjoy some of the funny slight scenes that turn a little less wholesome. Partially because it’s funny & partially because they’re still teens. But sometimes the fan service hits a little harder than I expect with this one. Not by any means to crazy standards as some & I don’t mind full on fan service. But I went into this loving the wholesomeness, so to get a little more fan service than expecting is kinda well throwing me off just a tiny bit while I read through. It’s not entirely a problem (yet?) just noting.

hmmm.... the fan service is getting to me. I'm not sure why the graphics has to show the girl wearing such a short skirt. I thought the concept of the manga was wholesome and cute. Let me rephrase, I have nothing against steamy mangas (I in fact read them), I just have issues when it starts out innocent and then as you go more into the series, there's a lot of up-the-skirt- visuals. It threw me off a little.

I thought this was about two youthful kids having crushes on each other. I had no idea, keeping a pair of eye glasses on the night stand can cause such sexual visuals. It's a little odd?

I'll give one more volume a go and see if it stops there or it gets more intense.

You know, it is a fun series but I am just going to stop at this volume. They are not really getting closer (though it is cute seeing them together and flirt a bit here and there), I am getting annoyed at how she just keeps on forgetting her glasses (which was a fun gimmick the first volume, in the second it was kinda funny, and now I am just like GIRL just get your glasses). I did like seeing more of the other peeps in the classroom, see them enter a new schoolyear and get lucky with that part, the part with the glasses and him bringing them home because she forgot was adorable (though who the fuck cleans glasses with gloves and such, how dirty were they?). The art is also fun!

more simple yet cute day-to-day interactions & antics between our two main characters. still no confessions on their feelings for each other, but it's a simple read so I'm still going to continue the series.

So cute!! This was a great volume and things are starting to heat up a bit. I really appreciate, though, that this manga keeps everything cute and chaste but still has a lot of romantic tension.

Chapters were short and several cute moments. You can kinda estimate what's going to happen with each circumstance, but it's nice to see the main characters feelings develop
