A play on "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie," this adorable picture book is all about what happens if you teach a stegosaurus how to do sums. Showcasing the impact that knowledge can have in a silly, lighthearted way, the stegosaurus and the little girl end up all the way in space just to return home and make fun loving robots.
This book would be great as a lap book or classroom read for ages 5-8 (publisher recommends ages 2-6 but I think it would bode better with an older age range)
As I read this book my son smiled off and on. Cute read, with a picture of another book and toy dinosaur we had read before this one that we really enjoy.
Never Teach a Stegosaurus to Do Sums is a brilliant book about a girl who thinks about all the things a stegosaurus could do if he learnt about numbers and maths.
I wasn't sure what to expect when we started this book but I think it's got so many great things to learn from it. It's great that we get to see the girl and the dinosaur learning about all the different things we need numbers for and it makes you realise just how important maths is in everything we do even when we don't think we're using maths like with baking etc.
I also loved how the dinosaur failed at its first mission but it was encouraged to try again and supported by the little girl. This is so important for children to see as sometimes it seems no one ever fails so it's nice to see the dinosaur being supported and not giving up on it's task as that'll remind children that it's ok to not succeed at everything.
The children's favourite part of the book was the illustrations and they are so much fun with lots of colour and dinosaur adventures. The dinosaur lovers particularly enjoyed this book but most of the children found the story very engaging and wanted to see what the pair would get up to next.
This is a fantastic book that has a lovely way of showing the importance of maths and encouraging readers to never give up. A very enjoyable read that we all loved.
Omg this is everything I've been looking for in book format!
Two women of colour beautifully writing and illustrating a book about two of my daughter's favourite things- dinosaurs and maths, with one of the main characters being a little Black girl, and the other, a strong and clever female stegosaurus!! I think this could be the first that uses alternative pronouns than what are typically used... Dinosaurs usually being male etc.
My daughter and I loved it so much, I know this will be a firm favourite over the years. Bravo Diane and Rashmi 👏 We value your work!
