After his breakup with Ruby, Jake attempts to move on with his life.
Author's Note: This novella tells the end of Broken People from Jake's POV. Unlike Broken People and Broken Reverie, it cannot be read as a standalone and must be read after Broken People.
Known as the (mostly benevolent) Queen of Angst, Elle Mitchell writes new adult contemporary romance ranging from shades of grey to morally pitch black with a hint of taboo. A mix of plot and spice, her books follow flawed, relatable characters as they rage against the machine or struggle against the darker parts of humanity and themselves. They’re messy—like real life—and emotional.
She can’t promise that all her books will depict what a healthy relationship should look like at every turn. She rejects purity themes. The best she can do is promise an eventual HEA when it’s all said and done.
When she isn’t reading or writing, it’s unlikely you’ll find her anywhere. She’s probably at home with her family, minding her own business.
An interesting little novella detailing Jake's pov after he and Ruby split up, you need to read the first book. In all honesty it didnt add a whole lot, Jake isnt especially likeable imo, he's immature, spoilt and entitled. Ruby deserves so much better.
He treats women badly, was pissed at Ruby for cheating when he cheated first and they broke up, admits he became fixated on her because she rejected him ( a novel experience) and was stalking her. Even after they get back together he puts an alarm on his door to stop her sneaking out, borderline possessive creepy behaviour and when he admits he likes the fact she is damaged and wants her to rely on him that is a red flag there. I dont see him as much better than Alex in all honesty.
Jake needs therapy, not a relationship. I dont know if we are supposed to root for them or not.
This is a quick read and will need to be read after broken people. It’s just Jake’s pov. But it was nice to get inside his head after what we find in book 1. Definitely recommend reading.
I really liked seeing the end of Broken People from Jake’s pov. It gave a little more closure, especially with the extra chapter at the end. I hope to see more of Jake and Ruby in Broken Reverie. ❤️
This was the end of Jake and Rubys story that I needed. Just a little more detail. I think it would work really well as an extended epilogue to the original book.
Everything ive read somfar fromm Elle Mitchell i love. Her writing style is addicting and so escquisite. Loved reading it through Jakes point of view. I wouldve still like to know why he did what he did to begin with. But overall lovely.
This isn't a necessary read for the duet, but it does help give insight into the MMC from Broken People.
I loved being able to read this from Jake's POV. It humanized his actions and emotions and meeting his family for me gave you even more insight into him.
This book is part of a series and you will need to read Broken People first to understand this story. The series has wonderful characters to follow and will end in a Happily Ever After (HEA)
