A Man Reborn: A Jesse Coltharp Western

Rate this book
This extraordinary, western novel takes readers on a journey through the inner turmoil that plagues every man in his struggle to find love, friendship, and happiness in a hostile world.

His best friend betrayed him. His girl broke his heart and killed his spirit. Jesse Coltharp was a man who didn’t run from trouble, but he rode as far and as fast as he could to escape the pain of losing his best friend and fiancé in the same day. The young cowboy wasn’t looking for anything more than distance between himself and the only life he had known. Far from his Missouri home, he stumbled across the body of a man whom he would revive from death’s grasp on the rolling plains of the Southeastern Colorado territory. As much as Jesse saved the man from his physical death, the old marshal would save Jesse from the spiritual death that was soon to overtake his soul. Jesse, the marshal, and their friend Zeb would start a journey that would cover more than just miles. Only their grit, ability, and brotherly love would see them through.

Along Jesse's journey, Indians would test him. Gunmen would try him. Outlaws would taunt him, but only one person would ever tame him – Jenny Dunning.

A Great Story!

I enjoyed this book so much that I was genuinely upset when it ended.

This was a book that exemplified honor, courage, and friendship. It was about the code of the West and the good, hard men who tried to tame it.

The character development was outstanding, Mr Bower created heroes who were not perfect, but they were honorable.

The book was a very easy, casual read. It was so hard to put down. And when I turned the page and realized the book had ended, I literally screamed, NO!

Mr. Bower, I hope there will be another book on the way, because I have not had my fill of Jesse Coltharp, John Dunning, and Zebulon Johnson. Get cracking!

Enjoyed the book

A very up beat story this world needs. Like the focus on the people vs the violence details. Keep up the story telling.

Loved this book.

Well written, the events were described in a way I could easily visualize as the story progressed. Well worth a five star rating.

Good story

While I enjoyed this book the errors in spelling were very distracting. It seems like an author of western literature would know the difference between a horse's reins and a ruler who reigns. Disappointing.

Fantastic

I once heard that a proper country western tune almost always sang of a cowboy and his pickup truck. Well western stories are similar. Bower has created a wonderful western yarn complete with shootouts, horses and of course romance.

Coming of age story with hope.

We meet Jesse when he has lost his faith in people and his hopes for the life he saw before him. It sometimes takes trials to realize that God's plans are always better than ours.

This was a solid western. Jesse, our young protagonist, catches his fiancé kissing his best friend, Clay and decides to head west from his Missouri home aimlessly, with his only friend, a horse called Dusty, trying to put as much mileage between him and his old life. Deep in Indian territory he sees the glint of something in the sun, getting closer he sees it is the badge on the body of a US Marshall, the body groans, he is not dead despite having taken two bullets. Jesse could easily carry on his way but he is not that type of guy. He cleans and bandages the marshall's wounds and nurses him back to health. The two become friends, the marshall acting like a father-figure for Jesse. We see from his actions that Jesse is one of the good guys, we don't need the author continuously telling us the same. They are joined by Zebulon Johnson, a skillful tracker, there are Indian attacks and gunfights as the three pursue some despicable outlaws.

i loved this book!! this is my first time stepping out of my comfort zone with a Western read but I was not disappointed!! Jesse is just a sweet young man who finds that the love of his life and his brother (best friend) has betrayed him and he sets out into the world to run from heartache. he happens upon a man who needs his help and will eventually turn his life around and mentor him. jesse finds a love he cant live without and a best friend!! such a sweet story!!

This is one of the few western novels I've read where the main cast of characters are truly admirable and virtuous. Jesse, John, and Zeb are all great examples of righteous men in a frontier world riddled with evil.

Character development was good, action scenes were great, and the story had a great ending. My one criticism is the narration became repetitive at times.
