More than 400 images of quilts from the Journal Quilt Project exploring a range of media, techniques, and subject matter. In 2003 Karey Bresenhan, president of Quilts Inc., organized the first ever Journal Quilt Project one of the most popular exhibits ever shown at the International Quilt Festivals. Since then, hundreds of artists from around the world have participated in the Journal Quilt Project every year, making small, 8" x 11.5" quilts every month to explore new techniques, express fresh ideas, and experiment with the myriad of resources available to quilters today. Whether quilters officially participated in the Journal Quilt Project or not, thousands of quilters new and seasoned have been inspired by the Project and are using page-sized quilts as visual journals for self-expression and discovery.
This is a great inspiration book. My mom and I are taking a journal quilt class together, and this book was recommended by the instructor, Julie Fei-Fan Balzer (http://www.balzerdesigns.typepad.com/).
The book includes pictures of more than 400 "journal quilts" (8-1/2" x 11" quilts that "represent a page in a quilter's life story"). They are somewhat organized by theme. The pictures are very clear and there is a short note from each quilt artist about their inspiration. This is the kind of book that you might look through if you are looking for inspiration. You can see a range of quilting and mixed media techniques, different types of compositions, use of color, etc. This could be a "coffee table" type art book or something you keep with your craft books.
The concept of making a small quilt each month as a sort of diary is really interesting. These quilts use more of art quilting rather than utilitarian quilting. Not sorry I bought this one.
