The premise, such as it is, of this little tome revolves around a magical mouse that can change words by changing the central vowel sounds. Thus the driver of a rig finds himself driving a rug. It's a phonemically sound way of showing how much difference those little vowels can make, but what I love about it is the way the illustrations catch the imagination of even my pre-reading three-year-old. And really, who can't see the humor when a bear is no longer nuzzling her cub, but rather a cob. Or the poor boy whose book moves from a comfortable place on his lap to his lip? The illustrations are humorous enough to help the grown up make it through the 200 and 201st reading which, after all, is a big part of helping the little folks to look at the words, too.

My daughter Jahauna Nicole read this to me at bedtime. The mouse makes magic...changing letters is his trick. Mouse finds words and makes them new with magic vowels a, e, i, o, u. I love the step by step learning to read books. I also liked the illustrations in this book...some of them were cute and funny. I would recommend this book to parents.

Perfect book to help teach children to read. On each page the mouse uses his magic and changed a vowel from a word to make another word and usually it's a three letter word. Giving the reader an introduction to simple words they can learn to easily read.

I like that this book is a phonics reader that teaches kids about how words are built while they are reading.
