Fun, fun, fun!

A truly "I couldn't put it down" romp thru our favorite JA characters with just the right amount of humur, snark, comeuppance and a lovely HEA resolution. Well done.

A cheeky, fast forward take on P&P. Almost farcical in it's lense view of Caroline's and Collins's story line.

At about halfway thru, I realized where this was going. And the end was lovely, if somewhat ott in it's sweetness, concerning it was those 2.

A fun, quick read, with humorous moments and just enough of ODC to keep me interested throughout.

Unusual

A very unusual and unique premise in this variation inspired by several of Jane Austen’s classic novels by the talented Jadie Brooks. An enjoyable read as always by this author.

A Farcical Romp
3.5* rounded up
A pretty good romp that focuses primarily on the search of marriage partners for Caroline Bingley and Mr. Collins, who are both thwarted at every turn for each potential marriage partner they consider. There are quite a few diverting surprises with some characters.

It’s a fun read, but I found the constant head-hopping and descriptive headings a bit distracting. I found myself getting into each section for it only to abruptly switch again to another person and location.

This author would greatly benefit by using a good proofreader. There are numerous errors in the book. The content is clean.

A cute read from a different point of view than one often meets with. However, this is not a book about Darcy and Elizabeth or even the Bennet sisters. This story is first and foremost about Caroline Bingley and Mr Collins, told almost exclusively from their points of view. Darcy and Elizabeth pop in and out on occasion but most of their relationship is glossed over and summarized in brief paragraphs. The reader is just kind of told that they fell in love and got married. Honestly, I felt even Mrs Bennet had a more significant role than ODC. As for "Those Bennet Sisters," their stories are told entirely from Caroline's perspective. I felt mislead by the title and summary and that is a major strike for me. Tell me what your book is truly about, don't lure me in with evasive wording then have your book be about something else entirely.

My biggest issue, however, was with the transition points. At every chapter start and scene change, there would be a bold announcement as to what I was about to read in the next scene. "Let's go back to Caroline in Bath to see how she is doing." "We'll leave Elizabeth to go see how Mr Collins is holding up in Hunsford." (these are paraphrased) The chapters were very long and there were several transitions in each chapter. Just as I was getting into one character's story, I'd be torn from it again by these abrupt, bold announcements. So it took me days to get through this book becuz I just couldn't sink into it. Transitions should be, in my opinion, subtle and seamless; not "HEY READER, WE'RE CHANGING SCENES NOW!"

The marriage-go-round

At first I was annoyed by the format, but the story was good enough that any annoyance quickly faded. You may not recognize some of the characters so greatly are they changed, but this another story and the characters conform to this story.

The author covered the entire Bennet family and more. There were courtships, betrothals, weddings, along with some broken hearts. There were disagreements concerning who would be responsible for the wedding breakfast and how much lace should be on the wedding gown. But a good time was had by all.

I see that there are other readers who enjoyed this much more than I did.

I kept stumbling over erroneous word choices, which didn't help (illustrative instead of illustrious, gentile instead of genteel, illusion instead of allusion, reign instead of rein, and more). There are other technical errors, too: punctuation, dangling modifiers that made me wince, and point of view lapses, when the author is in the head of more than one character in the same scene. It was annoying enough that I was almost DNF at 18%, but I kept reading as I was aware that other readers enjoyed it and was curious to see if it would grow on me.

Much of the humor stemmed from one man and one woman who continually get frustrated because the people they hope to marry choose...someone else. There's no time to develop the depth of character to make any of these courtships and matches satisfying or even believable. When the man and woman turn to each other in the end, it was...sweet. But I didn't buy it. I found the characters acted too distractingly unlike the ways people in the Regency would act (e.g., entirely too frank in talking about things that no one in that era would admit aloud.)

I found this to be a frustrating read, lacking the depth of character I look for in a really good JAFF read. Perhaps that's because it's meant to be more of a light comedy, but it just didn't speak to my taste. Your mileage may vary.

I read this for the Austen sisterhood challenge which fits because Caroline gets adopted by Mrs Bennet as a honorary Bennet sister.

Some of this is quite amusing but I'm really here mostly to read about Elizabeth and Darcy arguing once more, and I lost some of the interest when I realised that this book focuses mostly on Caroline Bingley and Collins and their failed attempts to court marriage partners. I did finish it because I needed to know whether Collins and Caroline end up together or whether they would fail at that too.
It has an episodic quality and many important developments happen in between the chapters, so to speak. The scene transitions are done very pointedly, saying things like, let's check out how so and so is handling things.

There is a happy end for everyone (except Bingley?) but not totally convincing in every case. But the author does give us some surprising pairings.

A first time read for me from the author, and I must say that it was a delightful story.
The whimsical cover (well done) caught my attention. Wasn't sure at first about the characters see-sawing back and forth, but once I understood the theme I was all in.
Without giving away any spoilers, I will allow myself to say, that this was first time reading a P&PV, that an author depicted Mrs. Fanny Bennet, Caroline Bingley, and Mr. Collins' in a favorable and attractive manner. The pair have long been known for their manipulative and repulsive behavior. I would enjoy another piece centered on Caroline and Mr. Collins.

Just OK

Will give this book credit for some of its writing and ideas, but this P&P FF completely loses it in the last 15% when Mrs.Bennet, Caroline, and Collins get personality transplants and infusions of intelligence. The character's respective 'voices' changed completely. The plotline allows for appearance of characters from other Austen works. But the pairings are so against canon personalities that  suspension of disbelief was impossible.

There are some misused words (ex.- glazing instead of gazing). Generally, the technical aspect of writing was well done. But the cohesion failed in latter part of book.

A really interesting and amusing read but rather error strewn - 3.75*

This has a great plot and made me smile again and again. There are secondary characters from a number of the Austen novels although the main characters are all from Pride and Prejudice. Sir Walter Elliott and ..... - I shan't spoil the surprise but it made me smile.

Unfortunately this urgently needs an edit to pick up the multiple typos and grammar errors. There is perhaps rather too much telling in the book and not enough showing.

Despite these editing misses I did enjoy the book which flows at a good pace and recommend it to Austen fans.

A fun surprising story but odd typos!

A fun, well-thought-out story, often quite wonderfully surprising. But the numerous typos did bug me, as I had to often re-read a phrase to figure out what exactly was meant. This story needs proofing by a fresh set of eyes, someone fresh who will see what's really there, instead of what the author and proofers expect to see after reading it so much already! I have enjoyed several other books by this author with no such complaint, so I wonder what happened! Best wishes for the future.

loved it

Those Bennett sisters, was a nice change, I like the way it was set up like the way the author broke down the stories. I like the way each character had a different story almost, I like the way each story set an around all the characters. It was a very nice book. It was a very different old book. I like the way each character change for the good, and I also like the way that Mr. working wasn’t even mentioned in the story I love that. TV

A Very Different Take

This variation has some interesting ideas. 'Gradual reform is possible' and 'some get what they deserve if they fail to do so' are two ideas well explored here.

Those reformed can gain a happily married for many years even if they aren't the principle characters. And sometimes the lessons come from a personal bad experience, other times we learn from someone else's bad experience.

Too bad there were several pockets of poor editing.

A joyful and humorous matchmaking tale

We follow most of our P&P characters as they find true love in very interesting ways, with assistance from a few characters from other Austen stories. Witty dialogue, sentimental character development, and several happily ever afters. Heartwarming and sweet, but not saccharine!

What a delight

I so enjoyed reading this book. I wish there was more! I'm not sure how it happened but I found myself more interested in the stories other than Darcy & Elizabeth. I rushed through their parts to get back to the others. No other variation has inspired such joy and interest outside of the Darcy's. There are surprises I hope will delight you as much as they did me.

Interesting

I especially liked the Caroline Bingley and William Collins transformations and giving Mrs Bennet a loving nature. Caroline transformed rather quickly though, as did many plot turns in the book. Alas, it needs a good editor. Typos, misused prepositions, missing words, and odd wording make me rate the story lower.

Fun

I really enjoyed this. The changes to Caroline and Collins were not sudden as suggested by other reviews. I thought it was a nice progression. We also got more time with the couples including ODC than implied by other’s although ODC is not the entire focus. Overall, it was unique and a good read.

Delightful!!

I can only give 5 happy stars for this angst free story that gives us both a Caroline Bingly and a Mr Collins maturation into people who we as readers want to root for.

very good

Enjoyed this because it gave insight into all your favorites plus drawing in people from other JA books. I usefully don’t care for books that jump around but this was well written.

It was fun to read about all the different non canon couples but still I wish it was more about the Bennet sisters (especially Lizzy) I found the changes in Mr. Collins and Caroline hard to believe, they were so out of character! But still it was an entertaining reading

I didn't really love this book. I find I am not fond of mash ups. Crossing over between books just does not get me in. Other than that it's an interesting story with lots happening for me not enough D& E.

An easy fun read. Lydia's marriage was a stretch of one's imagination but otherwise not a bad story. A quick read

Some thing different

This is a Caroline Bingley and William Collins story with a little of ODC thrown in from time to time. If you want more of ODC this isn’t your book.
