'Absolutely breathtaking. This book blew me away - words can't describe how good it is!' NetGalley review
The clock is ticking.
When Amanda Reeves, a beautiful young student, is kidnapped on the streets of Los Angeles, LAPD Detective Ray Collins knows that every second counts. Because the kidnapping is clearly the latest work of the serial killer known as the "Night Shade Killer," who has terrified the city for the past twelve years.
Each year, the killer kidnaps a victim to torture and eventually kill them after a thoroughly planned ritual. Each time, there are exactly nine days between the abduction and the victim's death. The murderer has never been caught. And this time, too, all traces lead nowhere. Until Ray, whose reputation as a loner makes him more enemies than friends at the LAPD, investigates on his own and makes an incredible discovery. A discovery that brings back his insomnia as much as the flashbacks from his past.
It soon becomes clear that this case is not only the biggest case of Ray's career, but also the most personal... can he catch the killer before another victim loses their life?
Don't miss this utterly gripping crime thriller with twists and turns you won't see coming. The perfect read for fans of Michael Conelly, Lisa Regan and A.J. Rivers!

I'm finding myself comparing a lot of books to movies lately and this one reminds me of Cobra starring none other than Sylvester Stallone
Once a year a cult in southern California, kidnaps, brands, and tortures a young college age woman, before branding, killing, and discarding their dead body.... Overworked and over stressed Detective Ray Collins has been working this case for over 10 years and is haunted by nightmares of a past he can't remember. Are the nightmares and kidnappings related?
The story was almost right out of the head lines about cults and crazy people who think they are gods. It made cold chills run down my back. Knowing that this is really happening in the world.
This is, without a doubt, one of the best psychological thrillers that I have read in a very long time. The characters were well-defined, and believable! David Silver is a very talented author who will have my attention as long as he continues to write! Great book! I rarely give 5 stars to authors. I would recommend this book to all of my friends, and assure you that you will love this book!
When I clicked on this book and read the blurb, this was definitely not what I was expecting. It changed between the point of views of Ray and Amanda until a certain point. There was times when I was screaming at the book and times when I wanted to cry. The plot was good. I will definitely will be continuing the series.
I was very impressed with his writing and ordered book 2 when I was going to order J.PATTERSONS new book since ive read almost all of his mystery books but D.Silver captured my intnerest .Ill still be ordering Pattersons new one with Lupica,
I struggled with thus book at first. I tend to read romance suspense type books. I don't want to give away the book but it definitely had the twist and turns u like in the books I read. While a was particularly happy with the ending I would have liked for additional happy parts. This was still an amazing story and I really look forward to more from this author.
This is the first book that I have read from this author. Quick paced thriller from the first page. Set in Los Angeles with Ray Collins, a detective at LAPD, as the central character the story is about a clan engaged in nefarious activities— kidnapping young women, raping them, and killing them as offering to God. Was quite gory in a number of places.
I thought the story was over when the girl escaped from the underground. But no, that was just the key to the rest of this book. I thought it was the usual detective story where all ends well. Ray will have adventures ahead with his partner and the baggage he caries.
If you love edge of your seat, can't wait to turn the next page thrillers, this is a book you simply must not miss.
Detective Ray Collins has been trying to solve a bizarre case....for many years. A woman has disappeared every year for 13 years only to show up dead. The victim is kidnapped, tortured and killed....all in a 9 day time span. The killer becomes known at the Night Shade Killer.
Collins is also fighting demons of his own. He doesn't know his background and is tormented with nightmares. He is a loner so really doesn't have any friends. Can he solve this case after so many years and can he finally put his demons to rest?
A book of twists and turns. An incredible, well-down job by the author of drawing you in and keeping you intrigued and wanting to turn the pages. I highly recommend.
What an edge of your seat story. Of course, I had to stay up all night to read. Could not put it down. A kidnapped girl. Confined to a buried railcar. Taken out only to be humiliated and tortured. Amanda was such a strong and amazing girl. She escapes. But that's not the end of the story. Detective Ray has personal stakes in this serial killer. He must be stopped. Well written. Well told. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
It’s ok , kind of juvenile. Most of the characters act literally stupid in a lot of situations. Unneeded information is added randomly throughout the story. I skipped a lot because it wasn’t very interesting
This was a good read hat a little unsettling. Unsettling to think that cults of this sort might actually be out and around doing pretty much the same heinous acts.
The beginning was hard to get into & had some parts that weren’t possible in reality, however it ended up being a good book the further I read. Will read the rest in the series.
wow! Wie gut war das bitte? Klare Empfehlung, ich kannte den Autor nicht aber habe sofort seine anderen Bücher auf meine wtr Liste gesetzt! Bin begeistert, alles perfekt!
